Re: Garden Spade Sunday
A spade (/speɪd/) is a tool primarily for digging, consisting of a long handle and blade, typically with the blade narrower and flatter than the common shovel
Spades are made in many shapes and sizes, for a variety of different functions and jobs, and there are many different designs used in spade manufacturing. The most common garden spade typically has a long handle, is wide, and is treaded (has rests for the feet to drive the spade into the ground). An Irish spade is similar to a common garden spade, with the same general design, although it has a much thinner head. A border spade has a similarly shaped blade, but much smaller, than a garden spade; but with a proportionately longer handle

Re: Garden Spade Sunday
Good morning everyone and happy Sunday ! Today is "Low Sunday" -the Sunday after Easter.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Sunday_of_Easter
After church I'll visit DF E - she said she had t been very well this week, but she still wants me to come. It would be good if I could make some headway with those emails I need to create and send. I don't need to finish them, just make a start!

Re: Garden Spade Siunday
Thank you for starting us off Kittykatt. Happy Low Sunday.
I am waiting for Germane to settle down and go back to sleep. I have had to rescue her from where she trapped herself under the table twice since going to bed. Once under, she can't figure out how to back out so she just bangs herself against the table legs. Hopefully the table will lose its attraction soon.

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start. Happy Low Sunday. I hope you have a good time at church and with your DF E, she's lucky to have you think of her.
Doggedly, sorry for Germane, I hope she figures out soon how not to get trapped there.
kitkat, I hope you're better than yesterday. I finished Bel Canto, recommending it to more people. Since you asked, no I'm not finished with nurse daily visits, it's been 10 days now since the surgery but it was a deep cut and needs to heal slowly, so they will visit this week as well.
Happy Birthday to trissie's twin DDs !
Happy upcoming birthday to L.Ann !
I didn't make it back yesterday and didn't get much done, apart from a trip to the library - I think it's because, of it : I read for several hours, and they ere not great books. I probably need to feed my brain with other things than payroll issues. Maybe it's the same mechanism as people who overeat or drink too much alcohol or other stuff because they have issues they want to somehow "stifle". I'm glad reading isn't too bad for my health, then, but it's not making my Saturdays productive !
The only Ann Patchett book at the library is The Dutch House (which I read before), I will have to buy the others. I would anyway, because I think I like her writing better when reading it in English. The library only has translated lovels (except for maybe 20-30 books in English, but nothing I would read). Not sure which one to read after Bel Canto. I think I prefer fiction than non fiction.
I have things to do that are must-dos.I hope to BBL to proudly say I've donne them.
TADAs
up a bit late
bedheets in the wash
tea, cuop
TODO
MUST DO = time on my résumé, + decide if I add a picture of me on it
MUST DO = admin research and paperwork (social security paper stuff), get PDF for printing, get snail mail address, also fill PDF and send online
SHOULD DO : some decluttering of outgrown clothes, some picture sorting, give kids their allowance, weekly list of tasks,
shower and wash hair before nurse visit = before 6pm
make list of things to clean / to prepare / to buy for DSisYounger's visit on 14th May (4 people will spend the night)
brain dump : VR re CP with process pic, PP re grid, computer switch for JB, doc appts to weekly list

Re: Garden Spade Siunday
Well, the twins' birthday will indeed be unforgetable, but not in a good way. DFIL died last night. DMIL has Alzheimer and dementia and DSIL, who lives nearby, is on crutches due to a badly broken leg. DH drove over (2 hours) to stay with his mom for the time being - arrangements will have to be made. I can go over on Wednesday evening and stay till Sunday or Monday, as I need to be back in office on Tuesday 21nd. This "single parent thing" is not new to us, with all of his business trips, and at least now he is in the same time zone, but this is a time he should have the comfort of his family and not be alone. But it is what it is and we'll just have to take it one day at a time.
I will still be taking twins shopping today, but I will also have to drag DBD with us, which is going to be a complication.
There will not be a funeral, he didn't want one and it's customary in this family to not hold them. There may be a family lunch or something, but that's for DH and DSIL to decide.
Frenchie, I love the word "lovels" - I'm adopting it to refer to love novels as such
I do know you meant "novels", but it's too good of a typo!
Dogged, is it possible that Germane has sight problems?
kittykatt, I am definitely taking your SHEM to heart today!
helia, did you see Hail Mary yesterday?
happy early birthday to L.Ann!

Re: Garden Spade Siunday
Good morning. I probably need a new spade. I will be going to a garden center this afternoon but not one that has tools so much as interesting plants, perhaps a little difficult to find. So, I'll concentrate on investigating, not being practical.
Up in the night inappropriately, long story, and noticed Kittykatt said something interesting. Took some time for me to really notice the title. It's so nice when Kittykatt makes a mistake, isn't it? You know, of course, that she only does it every once in a while, to make everyone else feel better about all of theirs. She's thoughtful like that.
I neglected to say hello to Paige yesterday. Hello!
Happy real jewelry shopping to trissie.
Oh, editing to say so sorry to hear of your loss.
FrenchFlybebe, that's such an interesting set of thoughts about addictiveness and soothing mechanisms, etc. I heard a fellow on a plant propagation video say that propagation was like an intervention for someone addicted to buying too many plants in spring. You could intervene (smile) and enjoy the plant you have by taking cuttings and nurturing those, and it might keep you from going out several times, buying whole packs of plants when you don't really have an explanation for that many. He was amusing, but sensible. Anyway, he took cuttings from just a couple different healthy annual flowers and with a little patience, had a lot more for his bed and could say he'd had a lot more to do with each, appreciated them more. Maybe there's an analogy for the purchase, overindulgence, checking-out, collecting of books. Or maybe, books are just so wholesome and worthwhile that spending extra time with them is too virtuous to criticize. I may go with that.

Re: Garden Spade Siunday
trissie, I'm so sorry. ((HUGS)) Happy Birthday to the twins - if they feel like celebrating.
Nice to see you Harriet! I have no idea what mistake Kitty made. I am not a gardener - if it was a gardening tool mistake. I hope you got back to sleep OK. And enjoy the garden center this afternoon!
I hope you can get those to-dos off your list today, FFB.Yes, that's interesting about using reading to keep your thoughts in check. That doesn't seem like a bad thing, as long as you're reading material that is helpful to you rather than anxiety producing.
I hope Germane decides to leave the table alone, Doggedly.
Yes, dh and I saw Project Hail Mary last night. Someone asked. We liked it, me more than dh. It was a really fun movie, cute alien. In terms of portraying the difficulties of language learning, I liked Arrival better - but Hail Mary has more action.
I'm up early for me. I'm finishing my coffee. We plan to be otd in 22 minutes for the city wide 5K. Then, dh, myself, and dd30 are meeting LA, immigrant lawyer friend of dd30's, for lunch at a well-liked Asian restaurant. It has GF options that DD30 will actually eat -- I think. I have my afternoon free to continue to catch up on work things and personal things, and then we'll host Sunday dinner at 6 for up to 8 people.
I MUST refill the bird feeder.
I'll BBL after the 5K.
