Re: Marbles Monday
A marble is a small toy often made from glass, clay, steel, plastic, or agate. They have different sizes. Most often, they are about 13 mm (1⁄2 in) in diameter, but they may be less than 1 mm (1⁄30 in) to over 8 cm (3 in), while some glass marbles for art are over 30 cm (12 in) wide.
Marbles can be used for games called marbles. They are often collected, both for fun and for their colours. In the North of England, the toys and the game are called "taws", with larger taws being called bottle washers after the use of a marble in Codd-neck bottles, which were often found for play. These toys can be used to make marble runs, a form of art, or they can be used in marble races, a kind of race using marbles.
Traditionally, marbles are played on dirt or sand, but they can be played on carpets or tabletop, such as the Schylling Skill Marble Ball Game.
The World Marbles Championship has been held in Tinsley Green, England, since 1932.

Re: Marbles Monday
Good morning everyone and happy Monday!
L.Ann, I'm glad you enjoyed Anastasia. I hope DD's appointments go well.
Bama, we all deserve.a day off!
Helia, Baby I sounds adorable! I. Glad you're getting to spend time with her.
Dogged, lunch on the balcony sounds lovely!
I'm feeling rather and sore today after my adventures taking the rose out yesterday - the roots went down a *very* long way. I still have no idea why it wasn't thriving - there were no obvious signs - but, IIRC, Trissie also had problems with a Peace rose. Maybe the stock has deteriorated over the years? The one my parents had was enormous!
Another dry, sunny day today. I need to do some more work in my front garden - it was getting too dark to see properly when I finally came indoors last night, even with the help of the streetlight!
I also need to get the spare room back into order after DBIL's visit. Apart from that, I'm hoping for a "normal" Monday.

Re: Marbles Monday
◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start ! I love the title, and I love the SHEM. Sorry you had to depart with a beloved rose. If we're weather twins, the week ahead should be dry, which is great for garden projects.
I was delighted to read about helia's visit with family and baby I
I didn't make it back yesterday. We enjoyed the weather, the kids had some time outside and a few hours on screens
. MrNG took down (mostly) the garden shed that was not in a great shape and wasn't high enough for him to stand. We still have another garden storage thing for a few tools and garden stuff, anyway.
I'm glad I have this day off payroll again, I intend to be present for my sons and I want to not think about payroll - it's difficult to enjoy days off when the mind keeps ruminating about unpleasant stuff. On MrNG's insistence I went for a 30 minutes walk after breakfast while the kids were still sleeping, and it is having a beneficial effect on my state of mind. He will be working most of the day for a whole day event tomorrow for his consulting business.
TADAs
woke up with gloomy thoughts
breakfast with MrNG
went for a 30 mn brisk walk (2.7 kms)
TODO
type list of to-dos for the week
decide what to do to keep the kids entertained (with minimal screen time)
decide what I will do if negative thoughts come up
prep lunch early and get the kids out of the house somehow

Re: Marbles Monday
Good morning, FFB! So glad you had a lovely day yesterday, and youve managed a walk this morning.
Re negative thoughts: years ago, an OT have me some helpful advice. The trick is to notice yourself starting to spiral into negative thinking, and to say "STOP" (out loud is best, although, of course, this isnt always possible!
) and to immediately think of something else. Suggestions she gave were the 5,4,3,2,1 method ( By identifying 5 things you see, 4 you feel, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, and 1 you taste, you break the cycle of anxious thoughts and calm the nervous system. )
And then you need to think about something else - list things you're grateful for (either in your mind,.or write them.down ). They don't have to be huge things, even things like a sunny day count.
(((HUGS)))
So far today, I have have found the strong brown paper and tissue paper, and I know where the parcel tape is. I need to start wrapping the latest. items I've listed on eBay, so when they do (hopefully!) sell, I'll be able to post them straight away. I've also ordered 2 pairs of trainers (1 for indoors and 1.for outdoors). My feet have started hurting, and it was only when I had a really.good look at my trainers.I realised how worn they were
(they actually look ok from a distance). But, they are.jo longer giving.my.feet.the support they need, they failed the rocking and twist tests,.and the backs slope to one side,.so it's time for replacements. Fortunately the Easter sales were still on, and I was also able to use a discount code (they dont often accept codes for sale items, but I always try!
) . I've also done my morning exercises and had snuggle time with the cats.

Re: Marbles Monday
Thanks kittykatt. I have heard similar "tricks" before. I know it helps. I would prefer to solve the issue with payroll and toxic boss, but short-term I can't, so I need to find ways to deal with unwanted thoughts.
This Monday off work is a bit like a Sunday but an extended version, with the "Sunday scaries" all day long.
We have eaten lunch, we will soon leave (the kids and I) for a sort hike in the woods, 15-20km away from here (not 15 kms long!!).
I need to display a timer with a countdown so that the kids will be ready in time and with their backpacks ready.
TADAs
weekly to-do list posted
read stories, did this and that with the boys
also made easy lasagna (with a jar of pasta sauce and a piece of mozzarella)
decided on a nice wooden area for a hike
TODO
display countdown on screen
get a bag ready with a few snacks
walk in the forest
back, maybe homework, maybe some scren time, shower for me before nurse visit
dinner prep, dinner, bedtime routine...

Re: Marbles Monday
A hike in the woods sounds lovely, FFB!
Another "tip" for anxiety or intrusive thoughts was to wear a runner band on one wrist, and when I had an intrusive thought, to "ping" it again at the inside of my wrist.
I've sorted out the bins , walked Fred , and had something to eat. I'm going for my walk now, probably down by the stream in the valley park.
