Have Focus, Will Conga. It's Friday PWYC

Post by Harriet »

Remembering all the funny paraphrases over the years of the Paladin theme and business card.

That original, and its premise, was no-nonsense. Like - you answer this serious person and you better be willing to accept the solution, which is coming your way. Many episodes were based on a storyline that the very sensible and sometimes longsuffering Paladin would arrive to find wishy-washy contacts who were starting to wonder if they really felt so serious about wanting change.

As a general rule, homemakers don't bother with business cards. But we are very sensible and effective when necessary.

Have Lysol, will disinfect.
Have vacuum, will astonish pets.
Have 3 boxes, will find surfaces.
Have fridge, will give snacks.

What are you going to be sensible and effective about today?

Good morning

Harriet - Thank you for starting us off this morning.

My morning is off to a smooth start. I've been outside twice this morning which is always a good thing. The more time I spend outside is an indicator how my disposition and energy level is running.

My project for today is tax paperwork. I'll dump the 2025 papers onto our largest table. That is all I am committing to doing today but, if possible, I will also start the sorting, decluttering and shredding.

topic from yesterday......How to get things done when I am ignoring my cards? Make the actions smaller so they is no resistance to doing the card. If I am ignoring a card that says to sweep the floors than make a card that says "Get vacuum out". I keep going smaller and smaller on the tasks needed to accomplish the card until it is ridiculously easy. Breaking the card task down in tiny pieces eliminates my reluctance.

LadyM, that is helpful to me. I am going to go get the vacuum out - first part of a chore. I can keep it out of the traffic pattern but obvious, and that will say, "please let's vacuum" without nagging or getting me into trouble right now with the "don't do too much!" police. ;)

Small deliveries of other items were delivered by 7 this morning, I think, very prompt.
I used our long "reacher" to pick them up from the steps and bring in, to higher surfaces inside, open and put away.
Groceries just now delivered, so I've been the "face" of the house with greeting and HRH will handle carrying.

Kitchen is in order
Deep clean of small table in the den
Footprints in the den erased

Next up, grocery put-away
brunch

Today
vacuuming somehow
spraying some plants (mask up)
bathrooms cleaning
order a photo printed ... .. ?

Hi!

"Sensible and effective" ?? WHAT?? We're supposed to be sensible?? Effective??

Since when am I EVER sensible or effective? Those sound like adult words. Can I just sit here and watch you guys do this stuff?

(Just kidding!!) I don't know how much adulting I will be doing today. Dh fell asleep before me and he was having nightmares. At one point I was in the bathroom and I could hear him in the bedroom from there. Around 2:30ish I finally said his name and told him he was okay and safe. He settled down a bit and then the yelling of mostly nonsense sounds started up again. Believe me, my dh knows how to bellow. He's a loud person. He apologized last night and again this morning. It seems his dad was chasing him. I totally understood because I have bad dreams about my dad as well.

I need to get moving. PSW is coming in less than an hour. I have to go to the bank and I also have to go to Walmart (alone) to pick up whatever it is dh wants me to buy for his mom for Mother's Day.

Later...

Bathroom and kitchen garbage has been taken outside. As soon as the PSW leaves, I will be going to do some errands.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

Good morning!

Have hole in mouth, will get implant? The oral surgeon did not consider the cold sufficient reason to reschedule. Fortunately, the cough is mostly gone.

Realized they will be giving me a prescription when I leave here, and I didn’t bring with me the coupon that came in the mail yesterday for $15 off groceries with a new prescription. Ah, well, by the time I get out of here it might be lunch break at the pharmacy by the time I could get there. I guess I will go with DH after he gets home; he had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and has a prescription to pick up.

Since I am sitting here, there is not much else going on that I can tell you.

RR - how is the recovery going from your recent fall?

it's Friday so that means picking up lunch at our favorite local BBQ place. The owner recently sold DS17 a 1949 Dodge truck so that was the topic of conversation today. He has all kinds of ideas of how to restore that vehicle and was talking like a kid at Christmas about them. DS17 has the 49 on the back burner for now because he is using every spare moment and dollar to restore an 1989 Chev. He is entering that vehicle in the car show this weekend. Our shop continues to be a gathering place for teens who come to talk with and help DS17 almost every evening. I've grown used to having a driveway full of vehicles. Last night I went and picked up grilled baloney sandwiches for the teens. Someday we won't have all this daily teenage activity going on and our home will be quiet. I'm looking forward to it, while also finding joy the phase of life we are in now.

DD49 brought me a huge hanging basket for Mother's Day. I'm thankful for the relationship with DD49 because it hasn't always been easy.

Love your song, Harriet. For some reason, I have not gotten hooked on Paladin. (IMHO) he is not as good looking as Wells Fargo's Dale Robertson, and I guess I am drawn to the family men on the other shows I watch -- The Virginian, The Rifleman, and Gunsmoke of course -- no "family" there, but wouldn't Matt Dillon have made a wonderful father? OTHO, my dmom once said she thought OG might be a "soldier of fortune," a "hired gun" for the government -- which he probably was -- so it's surprising I haven't gotten stuck on Paladin. HOWEVER -- I do NOT think OG ever killed anyone except in the line of duty, and I have no evidence to say he ever did that.
I would love to see more parodies -- can I find them on YouTube?

Oh my... I'm chasing rabbits today, aren't I?

I got in the conga line for a few minutes -- s/s bathrooms (including mirrors and sinks), tidied the bed, did my short exercise routine.
I have also done my Bible reading and eaten, drank my Metamucil (it doesn't seem quite as bad as it did at first, but I'm still taking in all in 2 or 3 big gulps.)
I'm d2s, make-up on... cleared out junk emails.
DGD will spend the night with me, and I may wait to get the mail until she and I get supper. I've done really well eating at home this week, but last night I did spend about $20 getting concession supper for myself and ds.

LadyM, ChatGPT just told me to spend just 10 minutes outside. I was asking it for a re-set after two days of lying in bed scrolling on my phone till noon (Or later, if you want the whole truth!)
I LOVE what you said about just making a card for getting the vacuum cleaner out of the closet! I may need MORE cards, not less!
And while you are piling tax info on the table, I will bring my NokBox supplies to the living room, so I can watch tv while I put labels on files. I will commit to no more than just getting the supplies in sight.
I certainly hear you re: the day when your teens will be out of the house. I try to tell myself to not miss any opportunity to have dgrands with me or to attend their activities. I know some day, they will have a lot more on their minds than Nana.
I'm so glad your dd49 got you that plant and gave you a happy Mother's Day.
Can I just sit here and watch you guys do this stuff?
OH, CATHY -- you sound like ME!!!
I need to wrap my dmom's present -- books. Books that she will not read, but one of which she specifically asked for! (How Green Was My Valley.) She loves that movie, and she asked me if there was a book available. I also got her Shannon Bream's new book, Nothing is Impossible with God. (I have a copy also, but I have not started reading it.
I need a card that says SIT AND READ -- OFF-SCREENS -- FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES.
I think I may make myself one for that.

(((Mystery))) Saying a prayer for you that all goes well with the implant.

Nancy -- are you talking about videos that you have made for YouTube or something? What is your subject. (I think you may have told us this before, but like I said earlier, I'm constantly chasing squirrels or rabbits... something...

Cathy, she made me laugh too, but it is all too true for my daily activity... I just want to sit and watch.

How long can I blame my laziness on grief and the sinus condition? I'm really at the point where I think I need to GET MY ACT TOGETHER... but then I still sit and spin my wheels.

Yes, Rose -- how are you feeling today? I remember my ddad teaching me to always lay a hoe or a rake facing down on the ground, so you wouldn't accidently step on it and have the handle bang you in the face. That wouldn't help much if you just tripped over the handle though... (((HUGS)))
Tomorrow is another day.

I just meant the clever paraphrases of the business card/title of the song, "have this, will that".
(Mystery sort of gave us one! Hope she feels well!)

For instance, Robert Heinlein the great science fiction writer, chose the title, Have Space Suit Will Travel for a novel in the mid-1970s, when I wasn't long out of high school (used to love his writing), and fans thought that was so clever. A lot of recording artists titled songs or albums like that - Dizzy Gillespee "Have Trumpet, Will Excite", etc.

The bathrooms are distinctively cleaner, so that's a success.
I'm happy about a good solid rain that has perked up my flowers.
HRH has promised to vacuum if I will go elsewhere in the house. yay for that

I'd like to keep up the momentum and mop the hallway.
