all health appts taken first second half of 2025 2026 : ob-gyn, ORL, new glasses / Moocs / files and folders : structure on both laptops and black hard-drive / find some piece of land to grow trees on / paint walls upstairs / repair upstairs shower / change water heater / electric system needs to be regulation-compliant : find electrician, price quote, make appts, have work done, pay bill / sell my current car after buying a new one (finances permitting) / Tableau training / Wiriting project

FFB, if you've been listening to Emma can I recommend Pride and Prejudice? (Also by Jane Austen, but I'm sure you knew that ) IMHO it's hysterically funny, and Miss Austen really "gets" teenagers. The BBC serial adaptation was also very good and mostly true to the plot. Of course it's "of its time" and both values and the place of women in society have changed , but it does have some strong minded sensible women in it (Elizabeth Bennett, Charlotte Lucas) and a (mostly) happy ending.

I actually greatly preferred it to Emma, as IMHO Emma was rather a spoilt young madam, and Mr Knightley was too old for her (Iirc he is portrayed as almost a contemporary of her father?)

Thank you Kittykatt I have listened to Pride and Prejudice in the past (in French) and enjoyed it a lot, then went on to read it (in English), and the same with Persuasion. Thanks for the advice and if you have in mind other enjoyable books that are 'free domain' I'm very interested ! Free domain means I can find the audio book for free : always preferable when you're not sure you will enjoy the story !
I also have Tom Sawyer in mind for later.

FFB, other favourites of mine are The Diary of a Provincial Lady by E.M. Delafield, ( and the sequels) and Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell. They should all be on the public domain in places like Project Gutenberg Australia and Internet Archive. The way they were written means are also intended to be read and enjoyed a chapter at a time and not in one stretch, which might be helpful as I know you have limited free time.

You might also enjoy the "Lucia" books ( Queen Lucia, Lucia in London, Miss Mapp etc) by EF Benson , which are in the public domain. I found them hysterically funny, but, of course, tastes do differ!
