Re: Wapusk National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Wapusk National Park (/wəˈpʌsk/) is Canada's 37th national park, established in 1996. The name comes from the Cree word for polar bear (wâpask).
Located on the shores of Hudson Bay in the Hudson Plains ecozone 45 kilometres (28 mi) south of Churchill, its accessibility is limited due to its remote location and an effort to preserve the park. The park is home to Cape Churchill, which is renowned as the best location in the world to view and photograph wild polar bears. Cape Churchill is only accessible by helicopter or Tundra Buggy.
The park was the subject of a short film in 2011's National Parks Project, directed by Hubert Davis and scored by Kathleen Edwards, Matt Mays and Sam Roberts.
Established in 1996, Wapusk National Park is 11,475 square kilometres (4,430 sq mi) of protected diverse and remote wilderness, located in Northeast Manitoba along the coast of Hudson Bay. Wapusk derives from the Cree word for "white bear", and as the meaning indicates, is a significant maternity denning area for the polar bear, Ursus maritimus. The park is also characterized by being part of a large transitional zone between the three biomes of arctic tundra, marine, and boreal forest. It includes a large part of the Hudson Bay Lowlands, a subarctic region bordering Hudson Bay that is mostly muskeg and wet peatlands. Wapusk National Park lies on the traditional territories of many Indigenous communities such as the Cree of York Factory, Fox Lake, Sayisi-Dene, and Inuit. Native species like caribou and polar bears are being heavily affected by climate change through warmer temperatures, ice and permafrost melting, and changing vegetation in the park. Tourism in this park is not very high but there is concern for the negative impacts increased tourism may cause. The geology of the area has many underlying limestone formations, and a past in fur trade.[8] Glacial processes shape many of the habitats seen today. It is one of Canada's wildest and most remote landscapes.
In summer, the polar bears of Wapusk National Park come ashore as the ice on the Hudson Bay melts entirely, waiting on the tundra until the water freezes again in November. Pregnant females remain ashore, sheltered in maternity dens within the peatlands in Wapusk, giving birth in peat dens, emerging each year in March.

Re: Wapusk National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for another interesting start.
I'm glad everything sorted out with DD, L.Ann.
Today, DH goes to the office and I'm at home. It's grey and windy out, but dry so far. If it stays dry I would like to do something in my garden, and I need to prioritise a walk. Today's indoor task is the kitchen, and I also really.need to tackle my "extras" list. That's possibly too much for today, but we'll see!

Re: Wapusk National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
trissie, thanks for the start, I love the National Park theme. I didn't know Canada had that many national parks. In my mind I see the country as a huge national park
, with a few cities here and there.
Hi kittykatt, I hope you can do everything you hope to do.
(( Bama )), I was sorry to read about your DH's accident, and now all the appts and paperwork you have to deal with, and of course the organization and the worry I suppose.
Sunny morning, I'm off work until Sunday, kids were supposed to go to daycare all-day and I was planning to crisis-clean the house from top to bottom but I won't. I took them to daycare for the morning because MrNG needs to work from home and is exhausted. It's a good thing they were planned for the daycare day because I had something to do online that required me to have dome undisturbed time too. Now planning some cleaning, some food shopping (menus for 8 people including 2 kids that are pickier than mine!). And I will try and get more paperwork done while I can.
I will get the kids abck after their meal and drive them to the shopping mall, I intend to give them a few "missions", things to find in the store. And at home I intend to give them some cleaning tasks. MrNG has a consulting meeting in the evening, near Rennes so he will leave before 4pm, and back around 9 or 10.
TADAs
up, kids up, had quick bfast together
walked kids to daycare for the morning and lunch
back home, did online stuff, email deletion, some planning and lists
got to the attic, took out the extra mattress to air it, DNephew A-- 6yo will sleep on it tomorrow night
also took out extra duvet and searched for extra bedlinen
TODO
find all bedlinen I need for the guests, also prepare towels
write down the menu, check the grocery list, check what we have
some cleaning
later
take kids to grocery shopping trip
gas station
cleaning tasks for the kids and for me
cook ahead ? lasagna sauce for 8 without the meat yet
hopefully a quiet evening and a good sleep
I hope to BBL to post tadas

Re: Wapusk National Park Wednesday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, FFB! You've got some good plans for today. And I think it's good to involve the boys with your preparations where possible, of course. That way they'll hopefully appreciate some of the effort involved. If you've got fussy eaters coming to stay, would having some kind of buffet set up help? That way everyone could help themselves.
When I was small I was very fussy about what I would drink - either milk or water, nothing else. But the milk had to be very cold and very fresh. So, for years I would only drink water when I was out. Not a problem, you would have thought, but other parents seemed worried that I wouldn't drink coke/ squash etc. How times have changed!
(I now drink coffee and tea like a normal adult, but as far as soft drinks are concerned, I still only drink water. Most soft drinks are far too sweet for my taste, and those with sweeteners are a big no no for my stomach. Also now I'm am adult, I want to make things easy for my hostess, and everyone has water on tap, and I no longer care if other people think I'm weird!
)
The weather has decided to be extremely windy today, with sunny spells and heavy showers. And it's a chilly 11C. So not really conducive to doing anything outside. I'm going to stop waiting for it to improve and just get on with my list. If I can get a few of those "extras" done today, that will be good.
