Re: Manatee Monday @ TDD - C&C
Manatees are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows. There are three accepted living species of Trichechidae, representing three of the four living species in the order Sirenia: the Amazonian manatee (Trichechus inunguis), the West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus), and the West African manatee (Trichechus senegalensis). They measure up to 4.0 metres (13 ft 1 in) long, weigh as much as 590 kilograms (1,300 lb), and have paddle-like tails. The manatee is unusual among mammals in having just six cervical vertebrae, a number that may be due to mutations in the homeotic genes. All other mammals have seven cervical vertebrae, other than the two-toed and three-toed sloths.
Manatees are herbivores and eat over 60 different freshwater and saltwater plants. Manatees inhabit the shallow, marshy coastal areas and rivers of the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the Amazon basin, and West Africa.
The main causes of death for manatees are human-related issues, such as habitat destruction and human objects. Their slow-moving, curious nature has led to violent collisions with propeller-driven boats and ships. Some manatees have been found with over 50 scars on them from propeller blades. Natural causes of death include adverse temperatures, predation by crocodiles on young, and disease.

Re: Manatee Monday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. I think it was manatees that inspired the legend of mermaids with sailors as their silhouette looks remarkably like that of a human when viewed from a distance!
FFB, did DS7 enjoy the walkie talkie?
L.Ann, WTG trimming those bushes!
Helia, yesterday's lunch menu was roast chicken, roast potatoes, gravy, carrots, tender stem broccoli.amd.grwen.beams,. followed by profiteroles. Neither of us wanted any supper!
Gma, all that planting.sounds.very hard work!
Dogged, that sounds like the perfect excursion for Germane.
Good to "see" you, Bama. I hope DH is recovering well.
I never made it back yesterday, but the new lady did very well.with the coffees, and DF E was in very good spirits. DH has decided to donate some shirts he no longer wears, so I need to get those bagged up today. It's drizzling outside ATM, but if it clears.uo.I could walk everything over to the clothing bank.
DH goes to the office today. As usual on an Monday, I need to tackle the housework, especially upstairs. DH did some clearing out yesterday, and for some reason there is a row of empty boxes on the landing - I need to take them to the recycling bin. I also need to.out the bag of "bits" - not things to be thrown out- and which is currently on the bedroom floor - away so I'm not falling over it. I'll probably just put it in the bottom of DH"S wardrobe and then he can deal.withnit properly when he has time.

Re: Manatee Monday @ TDD - C&C
Update: painter J has just messaged to say he will be here on Thursday. I'm not entirely sure this will take place, as DF PM is having her house painted this week, and it's currently raining.
But I still need to be prepared. So today I want to work on access.
Move those last 2 pots off the steps and find somewhere for them to go temporarily.
Pull up forgetmenots growing along the back path (they're nearly finished anyway!)
Rake gravel and sweep
I need to talk to Dnextdoorneighbour D about access. ( She knows it's happening, but I haven't been able to give her a definite date yet)
Throw away any pots that have gone over
Wednesday:
Cut grass
Trim bits on hedge
Move patio furniture up onto lawn.
Move pots onto lawn and / or side of patio
Move dustbin
Throw away any pots that have gone over
Move watering cans to lawn/ far side of patio
Sweep patio
Move pots from manhole cover in front garden
I will leave the water butts for J to move if he wishes (they're nearly empty, so not too heavy)
I will also leave my tool box, it's got wheels on one end, so straightforward, if a bit heavy, to move

Re: Manatee Monday @ TDD - C&C
Manatees! We we got to see and swim with manatees (snorkeling) our last trip to Florida years ago. I looked it up, and those are West Indian manatees. They're very docile and don't spook easily - though we also had to keep our distance. We got to see a lot of moms + babies. Very cute in their manatee way. Thanks for the interesting start, trissie.
Mmm.... your Sunday lunch sounded scrumptious, as usual, Kitty. Are you having the outside of your house painted? You're prepping way in advance! Are you sure you're a SHE?
Did you get to walk the clothes over to the donation site?
Yesterday, I already reported on the morning - a 3.15 mile jog and church until 12:15ish. M arrived home in the afternoon. I made a trip to WF, so now we have milk, which I'm enjoying in my properly made coffee.
I enjoyed going to a fav outdoor coffee shop with dh later in the afternoon and got my final exam edited. I also got another lol washed and dried; non-shirt and pants items still need to be folded and put away. Dinner was 7 of us - only dd30 was missing, and she's in California visiting friends.
Looking ahead - this is a fairly busy week for me. Every day of the week has multiple events (2-4) scheduled for 3+ hours of scheduled meetings/ get togethers per day - not all are payroll. However, this IS the last week of teaching for me for a while. I'm taking June off teaching to give myself time to prep for dd30's event, to attend a conference in Ohio, and to very possibly go backpacking with dh and dd27 in N. Michigan (the Upper Peninsula) for a week if I so choose! However, I'll continue with my admin tasks, helping the academic director. So, it won't be a complete break from payroll.
Today: I'm up early-ish - because I am. I didn't get 8 hours but I think I got enough. I'm going in to work early for the 1 pm instructor meeting, so my prep time this morning has been shortened. I have a lot to do to prep for class. Also, if I want to get in a walk, I need to do it before I head otd as it will be raining late this afternoon. I'll get home around 4 - and then we have the church plant BS at 6 pm on campus. That will be a tight turn around with dinner. I'm planning on leftovers.
It is sunny, already 66*F at 7:30 a.m. We're forecast to reach 88*F (31.1*F) today - with thunderstorms later. It sounds like it will be hot and muggy. Right now, I'm enjoying the breeze and the bird song coming in through the open window in the living room.

Re: Manatee Monday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Helia and L.Ann!
Helia, how lovely to be able to swim with manatees. I'm glad you're able to enjoy a proper cup of coffee this morning .
Yes, we're having the outside of the house in painted this year. J comes very highly recommended, and I like the examples of his work I've seen. But, communication and organisation aren't his strongest point.
DF PM is also having the outside of the back of *her* house painted by J, and her job was supposed to start today. But it's raining, and when I messaged her, she said it's been postponed, also until Thursday.
J doesn't know (yet!) that DF PM and I know each other, but we think he's got confused.
So we've decided we'll wait until Wednesday, and if neither of us have heard anything more, we'll both message him to check politely what's going on. I don't mind waiting another week or so, but I know DF PM is getting a bit anxious. Now I have my list of what needs doing before J comes, I can see it won't take very long to do everything. If I'm pushed for time, I'll ask DH to help with move the pots. I also think I'll leave the forget-me-nots until tomorrow or even Wednesday - it will be far more pleasant to deal with them when they're dry.
L.Ann, I hope you enjoy lunch with your friend.
So far, I haven't achieved much today, except try and sort out the house painting, and book an osteopath appointment for July . (He's been off sick, hence the delay.) It's rained all morning, so I haven't walked the clothing donations over yet. Maybe later on if it dries up?
Helia, how lovely to be able to swim with manatees. I'm glad you're able to enjoy a proper cup of coffee this morning .
Yes, we're having the outside of the house in painted this year. J comes very highly recommended, and I like the examples of his work I've seen. But, communication and organisation aren't his strongest point.
