The fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus), also known as the finback whale or common rorqual, is a species of baleen whale and the second-longest cetacean after the blue whale. The biggest individual reportedly measured 26–27.3 m (85–90 ft) in length, with a maximum recorded weight of 65.5 to 120 tonnes (72.2 to 132.3 short tons; 64.5 to 118.1 long tons). The fin whale's body is long, slender and brownish-gray in color, with a paler underside to appear less conspicuous from below (countershading).

At least two recognized subspecies exist, one in the North Atlantic and one across the Southern Hemisphere. It is found in all the major oceans, from polar to tropical waters, though it is absent only from waters close to the pack ice at the poles and relatively small areas of water away from the open ocean. The highest population density occurs in temperate and cool waters. Its prey mainly consists of smaller schooling fish, small squid, or crustaceans, including copepods and krill. Mating takes place in temperate, low-latitude seas during the winter. Fin whales are often observed in pods of 6–10 animals, with whom they communicate utilizing frequency-modulated sounds, ranging from 16 to 40 hertz.

Like all other large whales, the fin whale was a prized kill during the "heyday" of whaling, from 1840 to 1861. It remained so into the 20th century but decades of overharvesting contributed to declining numbers through the late 20th century. Over 725,000 fin whales were reportedly taken from the Southern Hemisphere between 1905 and 1976. Post-recovery numbers of the southern subspecies are predicted to be less than 50% of the pre-whaling population, even by 2100, due to long-lasting impacts of whaling and slow recovery rates. In the North Atlantic it is considered to be fully recovered from past exploitation, while in other oceans it is still in the process of recovery. As of 2018, it was assessed as vulnerable by the IUCN.

Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off

(((Bama))) I hope you can sort out the payroll issues for DH. Gma has some very wise advice. How is DH today?

For me, it's day 2 of the house painting. Just to add to everything, BIL comes to stay today for the weekend. I have impressed on DH that there will be wet paint everywhere, so they need to be careful when coming in and out, and not to touch the canopy, once the gloss is painted yes it will take several days to properly harden. (There's no reason for them to touch the canopy, but one never knows!) At least they're going to a beer festival.roday, so that should keep them occupied and out of the house.

I have done nothing to prepare for BIL's arrival, as I was just too tired last night ( yes, I know I'm a terrible hostess! ) so that needs to be done today - preferably this morning before the sun comes.round and makes the spare room hot to work in. I also need to fold laundry dry and PA, fu D a clean towel for BIL, do the woolly./ delicate wash, , and bag up the old towels.sitti g on the landing, ready to take the the vet on Tuesday (they need old towels for their patients).

I am sure everything will be ready for DBIL, after all, all he needs is a bed and he's not likely to notice anything other than "there is a pillow and a blanket, all good!", kittykatt! :-)
helia, I think, asked - the keybord is for the desktop computer in the office. I generally have my work laptop for work stuff, and use the desktop for "fun stuff" - if I can avoid it, I am not letting our IT in on my personal business! (I don't worry much, I am good friends with the head of IT and they all know it's better to stay in good graces with me, but better safe than sorry!). DH plugged in a new one, but a different height and the keys feel different, so it will take some time to get used to it.

Friday, we meet again! Slower morning, for a weekday. All kids are out of the house and I full intend to take it easy on payroll because of the once again long overtime I was doing this this week. And the house shows that I haven't been here much to take care of things.

Thank you for your realism and reassurance, Trissie! :D I hope you find time for the things you need to do at home (and outside?) today. I'm glad DH was able to sort out the keyboard issue , but keyboards.are.all.dofferent, aren't they? When I worked in an office years ago I had one of those ergonomic keyboards, and if anyone else ever had to work there, it would drive them nuts! :D

It's 7.15 am, and DH is up, showered and dressed, and waiting for BIL to arrive. I've suggested he can also wait for N and J to arrive - they are due at 8 am, so it takes the pressure off me, and I can have a slightly longer shower and take a bit more time.to get dressed. :D

Edited to add: J, N and K arrived at 7.30 am!!!

Good morning Ladies:)
Thanks for the start, trissie
Glad you have an at-home-day.
Kittykatt - I have no doubt you are a good hostess and, trissie is right. :D

I 'overdid' it a bit yesterday: did 2 classes... Going to skip today's class and just stick to doggie walking for exercise.
The yard looks WAY better with the fresh mulch down. And, I no longer need to worry about little trees sprouting up in the eavestrough. (We get it done regularly - this time, it was a real mess.)
I must have done a good job on the outside table b/c DH actually noticed it was clean

Today;
I have a coffee 'date' with my DD (I truly enjoy those, as my DH does not drink coffee or tea... and, she is good company)
water outdoor plants
more laundry awaiting my attention
cooking/baking
pup walk
DC
look for plants for the front?
maybe even relax a bit?

Enjoy your beautified yard and table, kitkat! We probably need to get our eavestroughs cleaned too. Dh is in charge of that, and he still gets up on the roof himself to do it. I'm not thrilled with that. Enjoy coffee time with DD!
Glad you could get a shower before greeting everyone who arrived at your house, Kitty! Will the paint job be completed today? I am quite sure you're an amazing hostess.
Thank you for the whale-y start, trissie! Glad your dh could troubleshoot your keyboard. Having a techy spouse can be helpful!

Yesterday, in between all the meetings and the work out, I got clean sheets on the bed! I also got my grades updated, the bird feeder refilled, and finally connected with the paralegal. Then, I had to e-sign a document and figure out how to get it to dbrother. He doesn't really use email, and he doesn't seem to have an app for e-signing. He's not sure the printer at the house still works. Anyhow, it's up to him to get it printed out for the meeting on Tuesday as I'll be in Michigan and will zoom in.

Today, I'm going in to payroll to meet with teacher LH 10-10:30. She's a great teacher, but she tends to overfunction and make more work for others. I'm hoping I can communicate well with her. She found some things in the AI Writing course pack to improve, but she's created a check list document and has been adding on more and more items. At this point in time, the school is just trying to stay afloat and cannot afford a large revamping of the course packs. I wonder if she thinks my invitation to a meeting was an invitation to a large revamping project?

Dh now has an appointment with an orthopedic Dr. the day after the half marathon, so I think he is not running it after all.

Next:
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower

Later:
- some qt

Morning all. Kittykat yes I second the idea.. BIl is a usual guest at your house and you are organized enough he needs a pillow and bed and here you go... I'm sure your house will look great. Yup those workers probably like to get going before the heat.

Trissie hope you have a productive wfh day. So glad you can do that. My house looks like I haven't done much either.

I hope you can sort out that signing program helian. I know the feeling of someone not knowing how to find a program or such... me... but I have dh. He's trying lately to encourage me to do techy things and finances more. Dad too lol... very old-school.

Anyway.. I wonder if there's a minor bug got us or what. Ds missed school Wednesday and I thought for sure he would yesterday cause he wouldn't get up. Just feeling off. He didn't know what but dh got him there. I am still kinda sore all over. And just a lot of gassy pain. Either ate something that did it. Or it's just me and ds too. Blah.. I'm scheduled late shift today. Gonna wait till dh is through his routine and then a soak I think. Of course I have not slept well most of the week either and my physio appointment is off killer. She's away this week. Next week it is. Good thing for email reminder I can't remember what I booked lol

Finish qt reading and a soak and some basic routines. Maybe I can do a few things this morning... or we'll see. I think sometimes I'm going the other way around.. I am a little better on the exhaustion burn out scale but still very protective of days off being allowed to be slow time.. and I've also been learning lately that I don't have to try to feel good about myself from my list of accomplishments.. or not..

Goodness I ramble some days.

lauralind, hope you will feel better! gassy is such a weird thing... a lot of people will go to the ER thinking they have a heart attack only to discover it was gas, and on the other hand "I thought I was just gassy" is like the most common reason why people )delay getting to the ER with an actual heart attack!
helia, your brother does not use email? I always forget that there are people like that who are not 80 yet (and there's loads of eighty-year-olds who will zoom with their grandkids!)
fresh mulch will give the garden such a nice look, kitkat!
