Sea lions (Zalophus wollebaeki) are highly social, intelligent marine mammals known for their agility and loud, barking vocalizations. Belonging to the eared seal family (Otariidae), they are easily distinguished from true seals by their visible ear flaps, large front flippers, and the ability to "walk" on land using their rotating hind flippers.

Sea lions have short, thick hair and a layer of blubber rather than a dense fur coat. Males are significantly larger than females; for instance, a male California sea lion can weigh up to 350 kg, while females weigh about 100 kg.

Unlike true seals, sea lions can bring their hind flippers underneath their bodies to walk or even run on all fours on land.Aquatic Agility: In the water, they are incredibly athletic, using their large front flippers like underwater wings to reach speeds of up to 30 mph.

Sea lions are carnivorous, opportunistic predators that primarily consume a diverse variety of fish (such as mackerel, salmon, and rockfish), squid, and octopus. They can dive to depths between 135 to 272 metres (450 to 900 feet) and stay underwater for 8 to 20 minutes. They have sensitive, finger-like whiskers (vibrissae) that help them detect prey vibrations in dark or murky water.

These marine mammals spend about half of their time on land and the other half in the ocean, typically resting in large colonies on sandy beaches, rocky shores, or human-made structures like piers. They are exceptionally vocal animals, using distinct barks, roars, and growls to communicate, defend territories, or find their pups in crowded colonies.

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!

I never made it back here yesterday, so I need to CUOP, BIL arrived safely yesterday, but he texted to say he had arrived.at the exact moment N was painting the top coat on the canopy over the front door. I told dH that he needed to.come.up to the house the back way, but apparently this was too difficult  so DH was dispatched thought the garden.amd.doen the back steps to meet him. They then went out for the day, and by the time they came.baxk the house was finished. J, .N and K worked very hard and it looks beautiful. They were also very clean and tidy. , so I could out the patio furniture and my pots back.wothoit having to clear up after them. :D

I also had a good chat with DF CW over coffee and a couple of slices of my coffee cake. And I had time before the men came home to study the video I took of the top of the house for me. He is concerned about the condition not some of the verge at the edge of the house, so he very kindly made a video pointing out those areas, which I can send toy.roofermon Tuesday ( it's a bank holiday weeken) to get his opinion as to what needs doing. It's going to mean more expense, but J said L should be able.to tell what needs doing, and provide a quote from his video, so he doesn't have to make a trip out. If L is too busy, then I can try L2 (highly recommended by DF PL) .

Today.is.supposed.to be very warm.amd.sunny. I'm not sore what the men are doing yet, but I want to get out in my garden, and I also need to fold laundry that should have been folded.amd.PA yesterday. I also need to bag up the old towels.ready.ro take to the vet on Tuesday and take the clean mattress and pillow protectorrs out of the airing cupboard, ready for my big onslaught on the bed tomorrow. Oh, and I need to do all my usual Saturdays jobs as.well! :D

The men have been launched ( not sure where they are going today. Yesterday they went to a beer festival that took place next to the vintage.steam railway where DH volunteers, and a good time was had by all).

I need to get on with my day. It's supposed to be hot today, so my plan is to fold laundry in first to get that done, then do something in my front garden while it's in the shade, then do my meal prep and baking for tomorrow while the kitchen is still in the shade, (I do not want to have the oven on while the sun is streaming in!) and finally have some.time.in my back garden when the sun has gone from there. Can I spray the roses? They haven't been done for some time. Again, I like to try and spray them when they're in the shade, so it may have to be two attempts.

I've no idea when the men will be back, so I'll ensure.I have a substantial lunch midday. That way I'll be prepared for anything!

So good to have the entire painting finished before weekend, but yikes about the roof damage, kittykatt! Hope you will get somebody to look at it soon.

Saturday. We've been invited to a garden party - people from DH's old workplace. Well, old workplace... I think all but one are working with him at the new company now, and the one who is not, has a wife there :-) His field is rather small (at least when it comes to senior people; computer games are a major industry employing thousands of people and generating considerable revenues) and his old job had a great team of about 20 people who worked well together, so one by one they ended back together :-) Anyway, it starts at 4pm, so we'll only have a short day at home (and I need to bake that focaccia that I was testing yesterday - it turned out super nice and lovely and family keeper, today I'll just be making a more fancy one with blue cheese, red onions and walnuts). But first I have some errands to run!

Good morning, Trissie! That focaccia sounds delicious. I hope you have a good time at the garden party.

The roof issue is a nuisance (and I certainly hadn't planned for it!) but it shouldn't be serious and hopefully wont be too big a job. I've just got to wait until Tuesday to send the video to L, ( it's a bank holiday weekend, and I'm not pestering L over a weekend, as it is definitely not an emergency!) and then wait again to see what he says - sometimes he takes quite a while.to reply, as he's often very busy. It's not really visible from the ground, even with binoculars, which I think is a Good Thing. :D

So far, I've folded and PA laundry, the towels are in the machine, and all the cats are temporarily quiescent. Fortunately BIL has remembered to close to door to the spare room. Matilda has no concept of personal property (as far as she's concerned, what's yours is hers! ) and she likes.jothi g.better than to have a good rummage around in someone's bag.

Good morning and thanks for yet another start, Kittykatt!
It must feel wonderful to have a freshly painted house! Best of luck with the roofing.

trissie - enjoy the party! Your foccaccia sounds lovely. Your family must really enjoy your baking skills!

We have grey and cold. The forecast calls for 30- 50 mm rain today. (up to 2 inches). Not the weekend we wanted... I had to turn on the fireplace... Kind of ridiculous at the end of May.
I guess, we'll do some store walking with pup - it's been a while.

I need to get my act together as I have DGD this morning, then my class...

Have a great Saturday everyone.

It's the kind of weekend your garden has been craving, kitkat! I wouldn't mind a bit of rain (though maybe not today) - we haven't had enough so far to even fill the 200 litre water barrel by the carport that I use for watering the garden :-(
kittykatt, at least it's spring/summer and fixing a roof issue is not as much hassle as in the rainy fall or winter!
