Well, everything's not.
But there's something Spick and Span around your house today, and something getting that way, and something for which you have plans!
All that counts.
The phrase is old, and inspired the name of a popular powdered cleaner invented in 1933 by Elizabeth "Bet" MacDonald and Naomi Stenglein in Michigan. They called their cleaner "Spic and Span".
Famous women of the early 1980s used to carry it in their purses.

Re: Spick and Span on Saturday
Officially, the chief vacuum-er around here is me again, after too long a time of being shooed out of the room and wondering if things were done the way I would have. So, I'm enjoying that satisfying absolutism of vacuuming
regarding corners and baseboards (whoosh!). My efforts toward spic' and span have been in entry this past week, but also my office/studio.
HRH was kinda taken aback by my not allowing his gift of a new office chair into my space until I was ready for it.
But I've got to get ready if something new is going to roll in there, especially to avoid any debris from the floor (I could pretend it's all threads, but there could be bunnies of various species, too) getting into its rolling casters. I've cleared, cleaned and vacuumed around half the room, from underneath my desk to the door. Today the plan is to continue from desk around the other way, under the sewing/pressing/cutting areas and to the door. I'll mop and then readjust the plastic (rubber) mat for it to roll on, and the chair can finally be welcomed in.
There are four (oh, my) family phone calls I should manage this weekend. That's a lot. HRH says with my long-winded family, it could mean half the weekend. But there have been medical and health issues, also events, not to mention some neglect on my part, I know. It's just time to touch base and make sure kinfolk know I care.

Re: Spick and Span on Saturday
Good morning
Harriet - Thank you for the start and the link to advertisement. I enjoyed it.
We received almost 4" of rain overnight. It was wonderful! My facebook feed is full of pictures of rain gauges as friends and family are excited about the rain and eager to show off their rain gauges showing amount received.
This is our last cool day (82F/28C) before we return to the 90's.
I went for a walk first thing this morning. I thought the rain was done. WRONG! I was about a block away from the house when it suddenly started down pouring. I learned that I can still run.
I was drenched by the time I got back home, but it made me laugh at how absurd I must have looked running in the rain. I wouldn't have chosen to do it on purpose, but I did enjoy the surprise experience.

Re: Spick and Span on Saturday
I love it Harriet! We're as spick and span as we ever get, since dcleaning lady was here two days ago.
DH and I are going for a ride today to the nearby battlefield, and having barbeque at a famed restaurant in that area. Tonight we are with three of the other couples in our dinner group. (This is the one with two diabetics and two vegans among 10 people.) Only eight there tonight. I am making an artichoke salad. Easy layering of marinated artichokes over lettuce with olives, red onions and cherry tomatoes, and the dressing.
Dh wants to leave soon...I'm rushed and I hate not getting through routines...need to clean up and we're out of here. Sensing one of those days I'm going from one thing to the next.

Re: Spick and Span on Saturday
Some spick and span-ing continuing.
And one nice long phone call with dcousin Mary, who brightens my world, for sure. We laughed and laughed. Now have a better understanding of how the households are feeling at two other calls I need to make, too. Didn't want to call at the wrong time and she helped me think out the best times.
Twins', that's so nice you have a friend group who think of each other's nutrition needs. Sounds like you made something that will be a hit.
Enjoy your knitting, Nancy. I am with ddog - not a fan of wind.
I have no doubt you are capable of a run, LadyM, just amused that you had to demonstrate under duress! Glad there was no more trouble than getting wet. And yay for rain in general.

Re: Spick and Span on Saturday
Hi!
I was up at 6 to give cats their morning treat then I went back to bed and slept another 3 hours. I was at the needlework group just after 10 until 1 and now I'm home.
We lost power for a while while I was out. (Now that I'm home dh is sleeping on the bed.)
We are having a simple supper tonight. Dh wants hot dogs so we will finish up leftover Chines and have hot dogs and whatever else.
I think the wind was the reason for the power outage. We had rain overnight.
Oops... now dh has the baseball game on. Time to join him on the couch.
