Re: Monsieur Jules Elie Peony Monday @ TDD - C&C
During its more than 125 years of existence, Monsieur Jules Elie has made as many fans as adversaries. It’s not the easiest peony variety to grow. This peony has stems that are often too slight to carry the huge flowers, opens very soon making it difficult to cut successfully and suffers easily from sooty mould. But it is a true veteran that, thanks to its huge flowers and beautiful colour, has a lot of admirers. A pink dream!
Origin
This peony variety was bred in 1888 in France by Crousse. We’ve never found any information about Monsieur Jules Elie himself, but we’re convinced that his name will continue to live on for a very long time.
Tip
Monsieur Jules Elie does not impress in the bud stage, but will develop huge flowers when mature. Preferably use a vase with a high neck to support the thin stems or use them in a bouquet.

Re: Monsieur Jules Elie Peony Monday @ TDD - C&C
Merry Monday, bunch!
I have to drive the girls to the rande-vous for their 5 day class trip, so I am working from home today. I'm thinking of taking home office tomorrow as well, as I have an online seminar 9-12 and a meeting (that can be done online) 3:30-5pm, and I wouldn't get home till 6:30, which is a tad too late if DS and DBD are to be home alone. And DH will be gone Tue-Thu this week, so he can't help out.
DMIL had to be rushed to ER last night - her blood pressure was all over the place and she couldn't breathe. I kinda thought the pacemaker would help, but apparently not. She also is no longer good to take her medication (which might have contributed to the problem, but SIL says that the slots in the dispenser are as they should be). SIL finally accepted what I knew from day 1 - that DMIL cannot live independently anymore, but it will take months to get her into a home. I really try not to worry much, but it has significant impact on our life (not so much for SIL, who lives 10 minutes away) and DH is being responsible bordering on stupid with accomodating not only his mother (that would be OK), but also his sister.
Oh well, nothing I can do about that. Lotsa I can do about, when it comes to my work, my home and my garden!

Re: Monsieur Jules Elie Peony Monday @ TDD - C&C
Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off with a beautiful peony. I'm sorry to hear about DMIL's deterioration, but it does sound as though SIL is finally seeing sense about the need for a nursing home. BTW, is she actually taking her meds, or just throwing them in the bin, or stashing them somewhere "safe"? I hope the twins.enjoy their trip - where are they going this week?
Peonies are my nemesis - I should be able to grow them,.as my neighbours have beautiful ones, but they either die, or stubbornly refuse to flower. I'm currently trying Shirley Temple.(I think!) and she is at least putting out healthy leaves, although.no sign of any flowers again this year.
. I'm not sure.of the reason - the roses near it do well,.so I don't think it can be a lack of light, water or food ... unless peonies and roses dislike each other for some reason??!!
Today was forecast to be sunny all day, but it's currently raining. Steadily.
So today's SHEM was very tempting!
But if I can get a good start on my indoor jobs this morning, maybe it will clear up this afternoon? Amd if it's still raining then, maybe I can do something fun like work on the photos instead? DH goes.to the office,.so I have the whole.day ahead of me to use wisely.

Re: Monsieur Jules Elie Peony Monday @ TDD - C&C
The rain has stopped, but when I went out to explore, everything is still very soggy, so I'll wait a bit before doing anything else outside. This afternoon is supposed to be beautiful, so that light be the best time.for the garden. In the meantime, I'm going to see if I.can clean the upstairs windows, and also tackle the bedrooms amd bathroom. Oh, and a parcel is due this morning so it would be good to be within earshot of the front door.

Are your flowerpots now watered, kittykatt, or are they hidden from the rain and you still have to do it?
Done with work for the day. I made really nice progress on my report, I think I am about a day away from finishing it. Tomorrow will not be that day, though, because I have a 3 hour course and a 2 hour online meeting so there will be little time left for anything else.
