Blizzard White with Graceful Raspberry Highlights
Circa 1851, Festiva maxima's firm, knobby, crimson-edged green buds open to reveal silky petals in the softest shade of whisper-pink. As the buds plump up and unfurl, this acclaimed Miellez hybrid double pales to luxurious creamy-white with intermittent raspberry-crimson flecks and striations. Ultimately, its large, thick, petticoat-flouncy flowers mature to glistening blizzard-white with occasional raspberry accents.

Floriferous with a heady fragrance for which it is prized, Festiva maxima's immense ruffled blooms are borne on strong stems. Mature plants grow up to 3' tall and 3' to 4' wide and usually bloom in May/June in horticultural zone 5. It's best to provide Festiva maxima with support for its weighty, flower-laden stems by installing Peony grow-through rings after fall-planting (it's easier than doing it in the spring after growth is initiated).

Happy Friday!

Thank you all for your kind words yesterday! DH came late evening (his mom now can't be trusted with taking meds, so he can only leave after she's had dinner and the evening batch) and we talked. There is a high chance that eventhough he did put his foot down, his sister will do nothing to actually change the date and just tell us "it doesn't work for the others". In that case... it's gloves off for him too. We've identified two more reasons for her behaviour - her husband is likely not going, because he has own things going on (so why should her brother have the support of his spouse?), and also, just this Sunday, DH called her and started questioning what she was doing and requesting that she makes these decisions jointly, so this is a way to show him who is in charge. Either way, she's shown her true colors in a way that not even he can ignore. Of course, it's still a hostage situation - MIL needs care and it seems he's the only one who is providing it (he's the one to spend there days and nights, while SIL on her days just stops by and/or calls). This is all going to hell in a handbasket...

Anyway, Friday. Working from home, the twins are coming around 2pm, and I have a friend visiting at 3pm. The house is not bad, but needs the weekly downstairs cleaning, and due to the bad weather and almost constant rain this week the garden hasn't been getting attention either. The lawn looks really lush, though! :-)

Thank you for starting us off trissie, and for another beautiful peony. It's hot and humid here, which is motivating me to get on with setting up the air conditioner. I think that I can get that done when I get up tomorrow. For now, I think that I will wilt in the direction of my bed.

Friday
Wiped down the window inserts for the air conditioner
Realized that I had set the air conditioner on cooling rather than fan only, and the air being very humid it peed on the floor.
Set up extra pee pads to catch the air conditioner’s run off, and pee pads facing up because if Germane sees them she will use them.

Just read your message, (((trissie))). Hugs to you and your dfamily. Some people just live to make other people's lives harder. :x

Good morning, Trissie, and thank you for starting us off. Has any progress been made at getting MIL.into a home? One thing that did strike me reading your account as an outsider, why did SIL pick that date when her husband can't come, if she wants.some spousal support? (unless he really doesn't want to come, in which case, no date would be convenient...) Just hoping your DH will remain strong and firm.

Sleep well,. Dogged! Our weather is still grey and decidedly chilly, but it's supposed to improve this weekend.

Today I have a free Friday, and I'm waiting to see what the weather does. My house isn't bad, but it could do with some TLC in areas. I need to go for a walk so I can post that birthday card, and I would like some gardening time if it doesn't rain !

Good morning!

Thanks for yet another start, trissie. Sorry to hear that your MIL is declining so fast. SIL will need to address the need for proper care... Hopefully, she is open for that conversation. Other than meds, there are many issues that can go wrong... Forgetting a stove on, letting water run, incontinence, just to name a few.
It's so sad how many people (and their families ) are affected by dementia. I watched a friend 10 years ago at the beginning stages.
She frightened me when she fiddled with the knobs of her (gas) stove... There was no diagnosis then - but I sensed that it was the issue. (Having had the experience with dmom...) Same dfriend is now in a home. Just saw photos of her dgson feeding her :(
(Her DD tried to keep her at home but it could not work with her full time job, and kids)

Kittykatt nice to have a free Friday! Let me guess, garden time?
I saw the photo - it is lovely:)

Dogged missed you yesterday:)
It is cooler out today, thankfully.

Going to get ready for early walk as my DGD is coming early for the sleepover and I still have stuff to do (b/c I thought I had the morning)

Good morning!

(((Trissie))), your mil reminds me of our situation with dh’s mom, it’s sad when people show their true colors.

Dogged, hope you have no side effects from the shot.

Kittykatt, hope the rain holds off for your walk.

KitKat, enjoy your sleepover.

Dh has an appointment with his primary care physician this morning so off we go soon. Let’s see what I can get done before we leave.

Bama, best wishes for you and dh today, and for bright ideas from the pros for his recuperation.

trissie, yes, it does seem to be a universal concern. blessedw2 is also struggling because of unreasonableness of a sibling, as she cares for her mother in her home.

I believe it was Miriam's peonies I saw being planted on a yt the other day, coming out of baggies with a little soil inside, the variety name written directly onto the bulb (that's not the word, is it?) very helpfully, so none could be mistaken. Peonies are so gorgeous, but I'm an annuals girl myself.

kitkat, enjoy your sleepover!
