The teal (Anas crecca) is a pretty, little dabbling duck, which can be easily spotted in winter on reservoirs, gravel pits, and flooded meadows. Watching flocks of this bird wheel through a winter sky is a true delight.nMany of these birds are migrants from the cold climes of the Baltic and Siberia. In summer, teal breed in small numbers in the UK, mostly in the north.

The teal is the UK's smallest duck - 34-38cm long, with a wingspan of 61cm,. and weigh around 330g. Males are grey, with a speckled breast, a yellow-and-black tail, a chestnut-coloured head and a bright green eye patch. Females are mainly mottled brown, but both sexes show a bright green wing patch in flight.

Teals nest in small numbers around the country, particularly in the uplands, but much more common in winter when it can be found on most wetlands.

Collectively, a group of teal is known as a 'spring' because of the way they can take-off suddenly and vertically, as if they have jumped straight off the ground.

KitKat, that sounds like a.full day.

Gma, you've had a very full.day too..How nice to meet up.withnyoir.retiree.colleavues - I'm not surprised you were hungry and thirsty.after all that mowing! Oh, and WTG finding your glasses.

Dogged, your three slow cookers all sound delicious! With our current Nissan, most parts are "off the shelf" or , if they have to be ordered, will be available.in a few days. The reason we're looking.at independent garages this time.is that they are a lot cheaper and they use generic parts (still.good quality) as we'll be changing the car in the next few months , so just need something that goes until then!

Today we're supposed to have rain, and the last cool day before temperatures allegedly start to climb again (not as high as last time, thank goodness!) DH is WFH and I need to clean downstairs and do some other admin jobs that didn't get done yesterday. A walk would be good, and some garden time if we don't have too much rain!

So far, apart from a few spots, the rain has not materialised. DH has had one quite for the car (not from PS) which is a ridiculous price,.so we're not going there (I suspect they're busy and don't want the job). I've found one place that has given a far more reasonable (although still higher that I would like) figure, but I need DH to ring them, as they give a blue light card discount, which he has (it's to do with working for the NHS). I've also filled in the form on "we can fix your car.com" which sends the details out to several accredited garages in the area. So we'll see what that comes up with. I know I'm risking the"pink tax" , but it will be interesting, and, in any case , if everything quoted is ridiculous for me, I can always get DH to request a quote.

Garden time now,.and then housework!

Two great SHEMs. Thank you Kitty! I don't think I've seen a teal before. I'd love to see it spring up from the water! Did you get in your walk and time in the garden? Good luck with the quotes!

Yesterday I don't think I got back here. I got home from lunch with B and then a stop by payroll around 3 pm. I vegged for a while, reviewed and edited some of the S6 course overviews, and then did some daily chores: got a large load of darks washed --> folded and put away (shirts and pants only), put away the stack of towels (which I refolded bc apparently I'm a bit picky about how towels are folded and M hadn't folded them neatly enough - or the right direction), made a quick trip to WF, and made a nice meal from the leftover stamppot dsil M made + extra summer sausage, mushrooms, and red onion added to the mix. For dessert, dh and I shared the piece of carrot cake B gave me for my bday lunch! We sat out on our patio to eat dinner and the cake; it is OK to eat gluten there. I also booked a hotel for one of J12yo's swim meets in 3 weeks. She is now ranked #16 in her age group (11-12) in the USA in one of her races! Breast stroke - can't remember the length. It was actually a nice more low-key day. I'm starting to feel happier! Which is good because I'll be out at work 8 - 3pm-ish today.

Today, I only slept about 6 hours, which isn't enough for me, so we'll see how I'm doing late this afternoon. Right now, I'm drinking coffee and feeling pretty good! I'm meeting AC for my bday breakfast at 8 a.m. Then, we're walking back to the school to finish S6 prep together. 1-2:30ish pm, we are co-leading the Prof Dev meetings for S6. Then, I can go home. This means I need to pack a lunch and my laptop stand for meetings when I leave at 7:45ish. I should probably pack my charger too - just in case. If I can, I'll go work out on the stair stepper at the gym after payroll, but I think I'll be very tired -- and I'll still need to get groceries.

Good morning. Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt. The markings on that duck are very pretty.
Germane agrees with you, about her slow cooker at least. She was thrilled with the duck, and I have to agree with her that it was delicious. I think that she remembers it, as she keeps leading me back to the kitchen. But she has had her heart pill, so she has to wait an hour before I give her any duck.
I hope that you get a decent quote for repairing your car.

Wow, that is quite the achievement for J12, helia. I hope that you are not too tired today.
