Re: The Weird Sisters Wednesday
The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown (published 2011) tells of three sisters who grow up in Barnwell, Ohio, the daughters of a renowned eccentric Shakespeare professor who talks to them in lines from the Bard’s plays and named them after three of the Bard's most famous characters: Rose (Rosalind - As You Like It), Bean (Bianca - The Taming of the Shrew), and Cordy (Cordelia - King Lear).
However, they have inherited those characters' failures along with their strengths They see themselves as the “Weird Sisters” from Macbeth, since the word is derived from Wyrd, meaning fate. Though the sisters love each other, they do not like one another very much: it is always “two against one or three opposed, but never all together.”
Rosalind (Rose) is the oldest and an adjunct professor of math at Columbia University; Bianca (Bean) works in the human resources department of a law firm in Manhattan; and Cordelia (Cordy) is the youngest and has been a vagabond for many years. When their mother gets cancer, their father sends letters to the youngest two and they begin to make their way home.
Now the sisters have returned home to the small college town where they grew up - partly because their mother is ill, but mostly because their lives are falling apart and they don't know where to go next.
Rose, a staid mathematics professor, has the chance to break away from her quiet life and join her devoted fiance in England, if she could only summon up the courage to do more than she's thought she could. Bean left home as soon as she could, running to the glamour of New York City, only to come back ashamed of the person she has become. And Cordy, who has been wandering the country for years, has been brought back to earth with a resounding thud, realizing it's finally time for her to grow up.
The sisters never thought they would find the answers to their problems in each other, but over the course of one long summer, they find that everything they’ve been running from – each other, their histories, and their small hometown – might offer more than they ever expected.

Re: The Weird Sisters Wednesday
Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday!
Gma, what a wonderful day! And how wonderful to do d the picture of your DGreat grandfather.
Today DH goes to the office (he's decided the lure of A/C makes up for the walk!
) and *m at home. Today's priorities are to clean the kitchen and do something in my garden. It would also be good to cut some kitty nails - their little "murder mittens " are getting long!

Re: The Weird Sisters Wednesday
That sounds like a lovely full day, Gma! Finding old photos is priceless!
Gma and Kitty, I loved The Bobbsey Twins and other of Lovelace's books when I was a very young child. Today's book sounds interesting, Kitty. I'd never heard of it before. Have you had a chance to tend the kitty murder mittens yet? I can't imagine Freddie would appreciate that.
Enjoy your walk, L Ann. I see DD33 has activities this afternoon and Little Bit has her swimming lesson this morning.
I'm here but didn't sleep well last night since dh had to do the prep for his colonoscopy this morning and kept getting up to go to the bathroom. I think he's prepped.
Yesterday, I didn't get back here after lunch, but once I got out the door in the afternoon, it was busy. I did the stair stepper at the gym. I was able to do 55 floors without a break -- I'm doing it on a very slow speed, but it was an improvement over the last time. Then, I went to Krogers and bought a lot more than I thought I would. I put all that away, had the rest of my daily yogurt, and then got dinner for myself. Dh drank his lovely drink while I ate. In the evening, I collected the garbage and put the bin at the curb. M did the recycling and compost. Then, I got everything prepped for my sub this afternoon, which took a couple hours. I made the sub plan, made the slides, got all the links posted for other activities, made a QR code for next session activities and put that in the slides, graded HW, and recreated 1 section of the test bc it was too similar to the practice test. I was done with all that around 11:20 pm, and so I went to bed late.
Today, I tutor 11-1. This afternoon, I have to sit in the waiting room during dh's colonoscopy. I'll take my laptop and do some work. I think I'm supposed to stay with him after the procedure, which means I'll be forced to stay at home this afternoon. Other things to do: jog -- I need to go now but I just woke up and I don't wanna.
I need to call the Dr. back re: my prescription bc it is for 3 days while I'll be at high altitudes for 5 days. I also need to get that grad card in the mail and think about a belated new baby cards for a couple friends! AND I need to get the S6 exam prep checklist created. I was going to make tomato sauce to go with spinach ravioli for dinner tonight, but I'm not sure now dh will want to eat that. Dinner might be scrambled eggs and toast.

Re: The Weird Sisters Wednesday
On to plan B. My tutee can't make it today; the power is out at his house and his mom says he didn't sleep well. So, suddenly I have a more free day.
I'm back from my jog, tweaked my test more, did payroll communications. I'm going to have a qt next.
I've finally stopped sweating after my jog. *sheesh* I just jogged in the neighborhood for time efficiency (I started before I knew my tutee was cancelling on me) and our neighborhood is fairly hilly.
Next:
- some qt
- call Dr. office re: script
- s2s and self care - I feel sticky. yuck.

Re: The Weird Sisters Wednesday
Children I babysat for (and remain friends with to this day:)) were my exposure to The Bobbsey Twins. It was my pracitce, and often parents' request, that I read a bedtime story to the children I babysat for - and there were many! So many in fact that when I had my first (and only) baby some older women in the congregation remarked that I wasn;t like a typical first time new mother. Well duh! I was 14 when my baby brother was born, I had OB, newborn, and pediatric developmental care classes in nursing education, and I had babysat many! I digress
It's still hot and humid, but I have been outside watering my grass and garden some.
It's rare that I come in sweaty, but that has been happening this year. I'm drinking so much, and adding salt (1/2 tsp to a pint/ 500 ml, per one of my nursing instructors) to my water as just water feels like it is sitting in my stomach and doesn't feel good.
Great phone conversation with a historical society about some of my father's materials.
heading to mother's to work more with dsil on finding other historical / archival treasures, and deliver 3 or 4 boxes to the library archives.
