That sounds like another good book, Kitty. Dh's family dealt with that exact issue after his grandma died. She was very wealthy (Dutch nobility even - well, lower post-Napoleonic nobility) and she owned several very expensive paintings that just resulted in fighting amongst her children and grandchildren after her passing. Because of this, dh's sister could not keep a painting that had been given to her in the will; she had to sell it and share the proceeds. How did trimming Freddie's nails go? And, what is for lunch? :D Nice SHEM!
kitkat, we're leaving our windows closed and running hepa filters in our house until the smoke is completely past. It has come back this morning, though not as intensely. Our AQI is 130. Dh and I decided not to jog this morning.
We heard that England had a great team this year, FFB. Dinner on the beach sounds so lovely! A picnic? What will you bring?

I'm up late. The smoke is back, though not as thick as before. Our AQI is 130 whereas as before it was in the 400s - 500s. Dh is not running and I'm not jogging today. So, I'll need to prioritize a trip to the gym this afternoon and work on the stair master, my new frenemy. Church is this morning, and then I think we're having an informal family rendezvous at a coffee shop this afternoon. I have plenty of payroll to do. No group dinner tonight, so dh and I are on our own. Not sure what we'll do.

Next:
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- reclaim kitchen

Later:
- make bed

- make a packing list - it's a complicated trip: hiking in high Alps (up to 33255 meters) - cold and need certain gear; Avignon and Barcelona - hot, city wear, evening outfits, comfy walking shoes and swimwear?
- what's for dinner?
- get a rotisserie chicken from WF?
- dinner: TBD
- after dinner clean up
- duolingo
- update WW
- update MFP

TaDas!
- up; weighed self - still high
- coffee

helia LOL at the stair thing being your frenemy. I see you're making the list for your trip to Europe, I thought you still had a few more weeks before leaving ? You seem to have that packing list issue regularly, combining hiking and city summer outfits most summers... At least I remember you posting about a similar issue last summer, or the previous one. I would think the undergarments for Alpine hiking can be suitable summer tops for visiting. As for shoes, it's probably not that simple

kitkat, good luck with the poor air quality. It must be very depressing not being able to open the windows when you need fresh air. Thanks for more reading suggestions. I didn't find the Whistler book ? Is it Ann Patchet't's latest ? Yes, it's more a question of spare time (and energy at bed time) than a question of reading choices. But that's the thing, since I don't have much time to devote to books, I want them to be books worth reading. Lately I've been known to download books for my e-reader to try the first pages, before deciding on a "paper" book order.

Hi Dogged!

Kittykatt, taking notes of your other book suggestions. I hope the car towing goes smoothly.

The house is quiet, kids are playing on screens  . We may get ready for the beach in an hour approx, it's 3.30 and we will leave at 5pm. The dinner at the beach will probably be tabouleh, or a potato omelet and tomato-mozza-basil, and some fruit.
I still have amy things I want to get done before the week starts again, so I should probably get to it.

TADAs
a lol in
now on drying rack on the patio
MrNG cooked a great lunch
now cleaned up
vacuumed half of downstairs, and the stairs
time in Zone 3
cleaned my pair of summer shoes

TODOs
things from my list : mend the neck on a top for payroll, order contact lenses renewal
school supplies : put both lists on Keep
make a to-do list for the week
prep for dinner at the beach
watch second half of soccer finale while kids shower ? then bed

We're home!
My vacation is officially over, and tomorrow is back to work (but at least working from home). I spent most of the time at the cottage just sitting and reading - I guess I really needed some physical rest after the Turkey vacation was not that relaxing. We did go blueberry picking and swimming, though! :-) And made a trip to IKEA - the kids now have new beds in their bedroom at the cottage.

We arrived about an hour ago, I already unpacked dirty clothes, sorted them and started laundry, and checked my work email (there was something that I couldn't access from my phone that I was worried about, but it's actually not a big problem). I need to finish unpacking, tend to laundry, deal with some paperwork, and generally set up things for next week.

kittykatt, I love your Michelle Obama quote, she's such an inspiring woman!
Frenchie, I am not a sports fan, but on the radio, the commentary to yesterday's match was "both teams looked like they gave up right at the beginning, but the English changed their mind later on!" :-)
how far are the fires from your place, kitkat?
helia, your married family is really interesting!
love your menu for the week, L.Ann!

TaDas

- entire cottage cleaned up
- packing
- drive home
- stopped by OBI (Home Depot type of store) to get some canning jars
- unload car
- unpack dirty laundry
- sort it
- start a load of darks
- checked work emails

ToDos
- clean out fridge (it's nice and bare)
- put away food from cottage
- 30 outside

Hi, all. I am up properly now, with fresh coffee made. Help yourself, I have plenty to share. :) I did read in bed, so that's one goal achieved today.
Yesterday I ran out of steam, and once I start on the next part of assembling the table I am committed to finish it. That's because the most suitable surface is my bed, which makes it off limits. So I left it for today, as I was at a suitable stopping point. What I didn't think about is that I would wake up with the sore muscles and joints of a person who has done an unaccustomed workout. I have taken an ibuprofen in the hope that it will help, so that I can get this finished. Of course, when we change something in the house, it's like pulling a thread that unravels the sweater. When I'm "done", I have to get the box down to the lockers and rearrange the furniture.

kitkat, I have set aside Villain Hitting For Vicious Little Nobodies because I was finding it depressing. Now who would have guessed THAT from the title? I've just started The Sunset Years Of Agnes Sharp, which I'm enjoying a lot more. It's by Leonie Swann, who wrote the book that the movie about Sheep Detectives is based on.
I'm sorry about the smoke. We had warnings earlier in the week, but for some reason it's all missing us just now.
For anyone who is interested in tracking the fires, https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/ shows fires in the contiguous U.S. states as well as Canada.

Kittykatt, you'll be happy to have your car back! I'm glad that church was good.

That has brought me to the end of Page 1, and my pill has done its job so I think I can start on the table again.

Sunday
Read
Put on a pot of coffee
Heart pill for dog
Put away dry laundry
Brought out more tshirts to dry
Cleaned up after dog

Doggedly, I just finished listening to "Three Bags Full" by Leonie Swann, the book on which The Sheep Detectives is based. It was delightful! The plot is not the same as in the movie, but the movie was fun in its own way too.
Really glad you got a relaxing week at the cottage, trissie! Yes, dh's family is very interesting - and also wonderful! I like them a lot; they're much more emotionally healthy than my family of origin. I wish we lived closer.
I think the smoke here will be better tomorrow, L Ann. I've had shakshuka before but never with lentils. Sounds interesting!
FFB, you have a good memory! Yes, packing for our European trips is always complicated. I'll just say that dh enjoys complicated vacations. If we stay in one spot for more than 3 days, it's unusual. We usually combine nature-y hiking activities and city activities. This year, we have the different climates to deal with. You hit the nail on the head -- shoes! Hiking boots, clearly -- and also lightweight shoes/ sandals to wear in the huts. But do I also bring walking shoes, evening shoes (would 1 color work with all outfits?), and beach shoes?? We want to pack fairly light, checking just one bag, and we have to pack our backpacks and supplies in it as well. I may end up with fewer shoes and just risk offending French and Spanish fashionability. LOL!

Back from church and eating lunch.

Next:
- kitchen clean up
- back exercises
- gather stuff for gym and coffee shop

Back again before I go out in my garden.

Helia, Freddie's nails are now trimmed, he's had a good brush and his flea control. Waiting until he was nicely relaxed and then bribing him.with his very favourite food, meant he didn't stop purring! Today's lunch menu was roast pork with a herb crust and honey glaze, roast potatoes, gravy, carrots, tenderstem broccoli and green beans, followed by meringues and cream.

FFB, your dinner menu sounds delicious and perfect for the beach.

L.Ann, I'll be joining you in the garden next!

I'm glad you had a chance to relax at the cottage, Trissie.

What will the table's final destination be, Dogged? Curious minds need to know!

Today has been much cooler, and we were supposed to have some rain 🌧️, but we didn't, so more watering will be happening in my immediate future! :D
