Susan Seidelman ( born December 11, 1952) is an American film director, producer, and writer. She is known for mixing comedy with drama and blending genres in her feature-film work. She is also notable for her art direction and pop-cultural references throughout her films, with a focus on women protagonists, particularly outsiders.

She first came to notice with Smithereens (1982), the earliest American independent feature to be screened in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. Her next feature, Desperately Seeking Susan (1985), co-starred Madonna in her first film, and was named as one of 100 greatest films directed by women by the BBC; it resulted in a Cesar Award nomination and in 2023 was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for its "cultural, historical or aesthetic significance". She-Devil (1989) co-starred Meryl Streep in her first starring comedic film role, and Roseanne Barr in her first feature-film role.

Seidelman also worked in television, directing first-season episodes of Sex and the City, including the pilot. She directed productions for Showtime, Comedy Central and PBS.

Seidelman's memoir Desperately Seeking Something: A Memoir about Movies, Mothers and Material Girls was published in 2024.

Kittykatt, thanks for the start. So, you can use your car again, what a relief !

I never came back yesterday although I meant to, several times in the afternoon : how can one keep their kids away from screens AND read and write messages online - when they're begging to "just play one session" or explaining that "there's a video about earthquakes, we would be learning things, right?"

I managed to dye my hair with no mess [certainly with keeping the kids away, Doggedly , although DS10 offered his help to put a timer on when my hands were full of the colored stuff, so that was helpful].
Now my hair isn't exactly the color the packaging promised - or what I thought it promised, but close enough, and no more white strands on the top and temples, so that's the main point. I had been hesitating for more than a year, MrNG wasn't going to give his opinion, but the kids convinced me by sometimes saying, watching family pictures from vacations, that I looked old and it would be nicer without grey hair.

We slept in the tent again last night, continuing with the stay-camp-tion, trissie !

WTG on successfully dyeing your hair, and not dyeing your house or children, FrenchFly. Sometimes it takes more than one application to get the colour's found on the box. That was helpful if your ds to help with the timer.

kittykatt, so I see we're saving Steven Spielberg for some next time! Whenever I feel the need to get some good crying, I play the 1993 Academy Award acceptance speech for Schindler's List (oh boy, Branko Lusting's !My number was A3317." kills me every time!).
Dogged, so what nice things did you do for future-you that you can reap today?
Frenchie, did you go with your natural color, or something new and exciting? I can still do with plucking the grey hairs - and every year, they appear around the time I have to fill in the yearly payroll DORA questions (digital resiliency EU mandated thing in a format that would drive anybody mad!)

I was utterly lazy recharging energy yesterday and didn't get much done. It's OK, the tasks are still there to be done today We did a family movie night - the latest Jurrasic park movie. DBD was scared and I kept telling her what would come next and who would die and who would survive - without knowing a thing about the movie. She was flabbergasted that I got it right down to the timing of the deaths of the characters; I was disappointed that it follows such a predictable pattern. But that's the way of Hollywood, if it worked, don't change it for the next five installments in the series!

Today, I need to get going on the house, the garden, laundry, and we also have that BBQ to attend, and I still don't know what time!

Doggedly I'm not sure about the time difference but maybe you've made a start on your Sunday's list of ta-das before bed ?

trissie we will be leaving around August 8th, no camping this summer, it's airbnbs in the Pyrenees mountains and city touring in Toulouse on the way back. The hair dye was supposed to be my naturel color, it's slightly darker and maybe a slight bit redder shade of dark brown. I'm sorry EU regulations make you grow grey hair keep in mind EU regulations are mostly good stuff, either for personal protection of citizens, or for the environment.

Our family movie was Avatar (the first movie). DS8 needed a few explanations at some points. Another example of very "predictable" scenario but DS10 wanted very much to see it.
MrNG told me not to add potatoes to the weekly grocery order, now I need potatoes for our Sunday lunch and he's digging them up with DS8, they have harvested maybe 2kg of small and medium sized red potatoes, so I will spend time peeling them, especially the tiny ones (unless they can be brushed clean without peeling).
Potatoes are very rewarding, MrNG "threw" some rotten red potatoes at the end of winter, covered with some hay or mowed grass, and now we have two or three dishfuls of potatoes to enjoy.

Popping in to tell you that I'm off to make pancakes for my little charges:)
I've been thinking of you ladies, particularly about FFly who is close to the forest fires... And, all Euro SHEs, as the distances are much smaller than what we have here, so the air quality is likely to suffer...
(I'm still dealing with cough and and nose irritation as a result of our issues last week... and, we are back into moderate risk today.
But, I must go:)
