Frozen Friday @ TDD - C&C

I am aware that many little girls love Frozen, and love Frozen princess dresses too. DF who has 2 granddaughters used a blue Christmas tree skirt of mother's to make 2 capes for the girls. They adored them! I haven't seen the entire movie, but was engrossed in a little of it when it was playing in a store.
We had 3 inches of rain over night. Much needed.
I had a 2 hour nap yesterday afternoon, and coudln't get to sleep, even when going to bed at 1am. I think I finally fell asleep at 5. Woke up around 7, couldn't see the green light via the remote sensor at mother's house, that indicates the sump pump was working, so quickly drove there, checked it. all was fine. Came home and back to sleep until 1030.
Now getting dressed to go there and clean some more: I have 4 girls coming Sunday, to stay for several days to provide leadership for our vacation Bible school week. I don't htink our deacon has any idea how much work this is for me to get mother's house ready for "company."
Tomorrow I need to plan menus, grocery shop, and bake cookies so there is a snack for them. Plus I will be moivng there for the week, so I have to sort of pack as well.
Deacon is coming to help me move one bed so there is room to get in from the other side, as it is pretty close to the wall.

I posted this earlier today - but in Thursday's thread. LOL! I think I've got my days mixed up.

Thank you FFB! We went to a local restaurant last night and had seafood - not sure that's a Lyon specialty since we're not near the sea. Dh wanted escargot. It's OK but not my favorite. We didn't get it last night but we'll be back in France in a week, and we can get some then. We walked by the river; our hotel is basically on it. It's huge, in a historic building that used to be a hospital. It's very nice! Everyone has been very kind. I've just felt self-conscious that I'm not super fashionable, especially when we arrived at a posh hotel after traveling for 18 hours, and my French language skills are abysmal. I used to be pretty good. . .It was warm last night - but not over-the-top warm, imho.
Maybe you needed a lot of groceries, Doggedly? Yes, we will certainly be helping the European economies on this vacation. In turn, we will get to visit with dh's family, see beautiful landscapes and culture, and eat marvelous food. Most importantly - we will get to disconnect from payroll and other responsibilities at home for a couple weeks! It will be worth it!
That's very nice of them, Gma! What a nice surprise for you! My father was also a professor for 40ish years - I don't know the exact number but it was his only job. He got his PhD in civil engineering, spent a year overseas on a Fulbright Fellowship, and then joined the university and worked until he retired - and continued puttering at work until he passed away as a professor emeritus. I have a soft spot in my heart for professors. I also married one.
Very cool, L Ann! I hope Little Bit's new Barbie enjoys swimming as much as Little Bit does.

Dh is fussing about going down to get breakfast, so I'm off - for now.

Kittykatt how is your vacation going ? I can understand why sometimes your Brother In Law is DearBIL : thanks to him you get some quiet weekends several times a year.

Hi kitkat I'm curious what you cook with zucchini (we have lots of it). For years I thought the Frozen movie was just another way for Disney to make money... then my sons wanted to see it, I watched it, and I decided it wasn't too bad after all. Maybe watch it with some grandkids one day ?

Day at payroll, not especially interesting, thankfully no major events or issues before the weekend. One week of payroll before we start our trip to the Pyrenees. DS10 is bored, staying home all days, MrNG is starting to run out of ideas for fun activities. They end up being entertained by Mario and Zelda for hours.
Walked to the local convenience store with DS8 for dinner. Fridays are market days, there are a few stalls. DS8 loves to look at the meat from the butcher's truck. He says he loves the smell. I offered to buy some meat he's never had before (maybe the guilt of a pescovegetarian mother) , but he's not interested, he just wants to spend time smelling raw meat.
No plans for Saturday or Sunday. Maybe shop for school supplies, not exactly the kids' idea of fun...

Oh Gma, I thought they were staying in your place. I can imagine it is a LOT of work to get your mother's place guest-ready. It's a lot of work to get any place guest ready, but it has sounded like your mom collected a lot of stuff.
How was the marine museum, L Ann? Sounds like lots of fun activities for Little Bit!

FFB, that's interesting that DS7 likes the smell of raw meat. Does he like eating meat too? I thought of your boys as there was a young French boy about 9-10 years old on our flight from Amsterdam to Lyon.

My girls loved Frozen when it came out! I think they were both young teens - or dd28 might have been a preteen - but they still loved it. Dd30 watched it like 19 times. I'm not sure why.
kitkat, I too am curious about the zucchini. WTG on the walk and the gym.

We picked up AA on the way since we were driving right past the Geneva airport at the exact time that she was through customs. It worked out beautifully! We're in our bnb. Dh and I went and bought topographical maps and groceries. There's a bakery about 30 meters away. We're very much enjoying the baked goods here, especially since we don't need to be GF! I'll probably gain weight before we go on the actual hike - but then I'll lose it.

My French is slowly re-emerging after several errors, including speaking a little Dutch - which really doesn't work well when someone speaks French. LOL! It was just where my brain went first - and my mouth followed very closely after. I was able to utter a complete sentence and ask for a bag at the grocery store. Dh said something also, and she corrected his incorrect article. Then she taught us "sachet" and the pattern. .. .She was very friendly and seemed to enjoy teaching us French! This is the best part of traveling.

We do not have the correct converters for Switzerland. Dh has one that works for all countries - but it's a bit bulky, and he left that one at home. The ones we do have work in Europe and the UK. But Switzerland's outlets are different. AA has a correct one. Maybe dd28 is bringing one? --Otherwise, we can charge electronics in the car.

The marine program was fun. It was 2 hours and they talked about 4 Maryland mammals. It was well structured. The part about beavers had an obstacle course where you carried sticks to build a lodge. The we talked about river otters and got to see them feed the otters an ice ring treat which made the really active. Then we learned about bats and made a craft. Last we talked about possums and got to see their 4 month old possum climb and look for food. We walked on the boardwalk on the island and had ice cream. Then finished with a pick up from Target. It was a busy morning!

And having the girls stay at Mom's is way better for me than at my house.

Oh, dear, it's not just girls. 2 female, 2 male. 1 vegetarian, 1 gluten free. That's going to mess with my breakfast plans for them. I hope vegetarian isn't vegan. There's always rice Krispies I guess.

Oh, that dog of mine! I came out of the kitchen to see a lake of pee run off of the edge of the linoleum and under it, and along the parquet. I washed the floor and cut more of the parquet back. We have a new arrangement. I now have pee pads going off the end of the linoleum to cover the parts of the parquet that seem to be at risk.

L.Ann, Little Bit has a full social life, LOL.

Gma, the problem with the cereal would be the milk. You would have to offer an alternative like oat milk. And there's no guarantee that they would want to drink it. I find it bitter myself. I think that you would be covered if you had French bread and vegan margarine available. Then they can use it for sandwiches too. I know that Becel offers a vegan version at the same price as their regular margarine.
Isn't it amazing how comfortable people are with offering up women's labour?

helia, I'm not surprised at your brain reaching for Dutch when it can't find the word in French. When I took German lessons in school, I discovered that my brain separates languages into English and Other. When I didn't know a German word, I kept coming out with French ones, LOL.

FrenchFly, I'll bet that we can all sing parts of the songs even if we haven't seen the movie, LOL.
