Stop the World - I Want to Get Off Saturday

This is the area for those who work best by posting detailed to-do lists each day.

Can you just do some sort of buffet each morning, GMA? Maybe cereal, oatmeal packets, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, and a bowl of fruit like bananas, clementines and apples. Maybe one or two days you could add something baked. Then offer coffee, tea, and maybe juice.
Then they can just take what they want and you don’t have to figure out something that works for everyone.

I have a friend with a grandson who is similar to your DS, Laura. His parents found a volunteer activity and then said he needed to volunteer two mornings a week. It doesn’t get him out of his room all of the time but it does structure his week a bit and give him an activity he can use for future job applications. I know your area maybe more limited with possibilities for volunteering. Could you maybe structure a cooking activity since that has been successful in the past…. Like maybe plan and cook dinner twice a week? Ignore if these ideas won’t work at all!

Hmmm thanks for the ideas lann. He does cook sometimes so that is good. I could maybe schedule it. Volunteer I honestly don't know where atm and that would be a huge step. I was hoping my sister and k would invite him fishing or something. They keep saying they are going to... something.. anything but it's tough cause he will resist a lot of things atm. It's just hard cause I knew he struggled but he was so determined in sports. Cooking was a passion. Now it's just not inspired.. I don't actually know what happened. Hopefully not bullied or something.

That headache is hanging on. Fresh air helped a little. Finished weeding the last corner of the garden. Got a little start on the berries. Lots out there. Gonna have to just push through.

L.ann, thanks so much for the suggestions! I am maybe overthinking this, wanting to be the "prefect" hostess. I'll hope they can do some waiting on themselves, if I have the refrigerator stocked.

I've just cleaned up my K, not perfectly, but big improvement. DW running. Now I need ot head to mother's and do the same.

That is absolutely what I would do GMA. In fact I would go with nice disposable dishes and silverware but that may be farther than you want to go. You could ask your grandson what some grab and go type of things young adults might want if you need more ideas.

Oh, dear Kittykatt. It does sound like your Romanian neighbours are pulling a fast one. The only thing that I can say in their defense is at least they left their cat in the care of a responsible person who will bring it to a shelter or rescue if they do vanish into thin air. Where I come from originally, people tend to move out and just leave their pet locked in their apartment, assuming that the landlord will find it within a few days. Since all leases end on the same date, it could be weeks before the landlord gets around to it if the market is soft. For now you are stuck carrying on as though they are coming back, but I don't see anything wrong with you sending them a text to say that you are not going to starve an animal to make the food last longer and that you are shocked that they would suggest it.

That's too bad about the rain, helia. So many places crying out for that rain, it didn't have to show up for your hike!
I think that you are wise to skip the trip to the train. You will see your DD soon enough, and will be more relaxed not having to do that trip down the mountain.

I guess the purchase of school supplies has brought it home to your DS10 that summer will end, FrenchFly. Hopefully, once the supplies are put away he will perk up.
Now, if we can just pull those clouds away from helia and over to you, all would be well.

I heard some disappointing news on the radio today. That big storm we had that caused the flooding had flooded the old city hall that is now the library and theatre near me. I knew the library had been flooded, and should have realized that meant the theatres were flooded. Anyway, they announced that all of the shows are cancelled for the year and tickets will be refunded. There was some talk of possibly moving them to their sister theatre, which I really hope they do not. The west end theatre is a ten minute drive from downtown, where I live. The east end theatre is in what used to be a separate city well past the east end suburbs. I don't drive my car out of towing distance, and I wouldn't be able to get there without taking my car on the highway, so if they moved the productions there I will just lose my money.

L.Ann, I think that our kids start school in late August too. I thought that we went back after Labour Day when I was kid, but that might be my faulty memory, LOL.

(((Lauralind))) I hope that your headache is gone.

Gma, Germane has had bloodwork done recently, so I'm not worried about her blood sugar. The pee is going all over the floor because she stands on the edge of the pee pad and pees with her backside over the edge. Or she walks up and down peeing. The night in the kitchen I think that she was just sundowning and couldn't remember where her peepads were.
Do you know who hosted the Vacation Bible Staff in previous years? Could you ask them what it was like? Like, did they pitch in and help with cooking and cleaning, or did they treat their hosts like they were at a hotel? I like L.Ann's idea of the buffet breakfast, and all but one would be fine with sandwiches for lunch.

You have lots of great ideas today, L.Ann.

Whew, I got Mom's kitchen clean, a runner on the table, and a little decoration on the runner. I have a bunch of stuff that needs to go into the file for her house, that is at my house (so I can sort through it at my leisure)
and groceries to get so there can be some food for my guests.
Kim and Jim hosted them last year - and they are on vacation so I can't reach out to them. But it will all work out.
I have some chicken marinating for my own supper tonight - MrVKM didn't feel like having a companion for supper - and will put it in the air fryer when I get back from the grocery store. Plus sweet corn on the cob, and sliced fresh tomato. That sure sounds like a summer supper! With ice cream for dessert.
Plus I did a row on my dsis2 shawl that I am crocheting for her early September birthday.

Heading out---->

That sounds like a great summer meal, Gma. WTG on getting everything ready for your guests.

WTG on all that you got done, L.Ann.

It has been a quiet day here. :)
