Thank you for all your support.and advice about the cat. ATM I just don't know what is happening, but I have my suspicions. Gma, even if the passport had expired while they are in Romania, or got lost, then, according to Google, it's very quick and straightforward to get . replacement, especially.for a minor, so we'd be looking after around 5 business days (not "ages". And yes,.summer is a busy time, but they're prepared for that.
The general advice.from people who've had experience of these situations is to outwardly play along, so as.not to arouse .any suspicion, and document *everything*, including any strange.people hanging around the house (none so far!) and to stay well away from the garage (its in.a block,.so not near the house) all of which I'm doing.
The cut off date is the 19th, by which time.they should be home. Of course all this could be due to language.and.cultiral differences, or they just wanted to stay longer with friends./ family and felt they couldn't.just say to me, "we want to stay longer" but felt they had to make up a convincing.story to justify their longer holiday.
But, I have my doubts. If they don't show up, then I'll send them.a.friendly text wishing them safe travels and hoping everything is ok. Of there's no reply, or the reply is unsatisfactory, I'll take her to the vet for them to scan.for microchip, which, by law, she should have. I have.my.doubts about that too, but we have to do things properly.
If she is then considered to be abandoned, ( which is a criminal offence here) then we could start the adoption process.or hand her to a shelter. I would like to keep her. DH says no ( so far!), but agreed last night we could "foster" her.
But I'm jumping ahead, and they could still.come back..ATM,.my main priority is to carry on looking after her as they asked me to.do, and to quietly buy her more of the same.food (without telling them, so as not to arouse any suspicion) so she is fed properly.(and keep the receipt safe along with all the text correspondence and other documentation) and just wait to see what happens.
ATM.I feel like I'm living in a very bad soap opera! DH comes home later today,.so we can have a proper talk, and I can impress on him for now,.we have to just outwardly.carry.on as though we suspect nothing,.and wait.amd.see what (if anything!) happens on or before the 19th. kittykatt, it's a good thing that you have good intentions for the poor cat, and watever happens, she will be taken care of properly, and maybe, adopted by you. I hope your DH and you agree on what is best for her and for you. As for the beighbours, well, as long as you don't know for sure, I can't say, but surely you must feel "manipulated" by the possible lies they are telling, which is never nice. And suggesting that you cut down on her food to make it last longer doesn't speak well of their morals.

Gma, good luck finding solutions to feed your guests properly and entertain them as you think you should. The breakfast buffet idea sounds good. And after one or two breakfasts you can adjust to what they really eat and don't. As for the other meals, sandwiches are a good start. I would think if someone says they're vegetarian doens't mean vegan, as it really doesn't entail the same constraints for the hostess. I would say, just in case, be sure to have nuts and/or nut butter (almond, peanut...) for vegan protein. If you have a bag of rice in the pantry and some fresh produce, you could always improvise a vegan meal at the last minute.
Doggedly, sorry about the flooded theatre. It seems you got all the rain that we so badly need here. As for the clouds you sent, some of them arrived. Not enough to help with the wildfire risks but at least it should be less hot.
Sunny Sunday. It will be slightly cloudy, and 29°C in the afternoon, so nothing too unbearable. Both kdis are up. MrNG is being lazy in bed but I don't mind. Not much planned. I'll review the school supplies we bought yesterday, with DS10, so he can organize things a bit before September 1st. I mentioned a few things yesterday and realized he just doesn't know how secondary school works, he was surprised that the timetable they get on the first day doesn't change every week. If I explain more things, this may untangle more things in his mind, and he will probably feel more empowered to face the first weeks of school.
When I left primary school for secondary school, I had seen an elder brother and elder sister go there before me. Things haven't changed much in 40 years, except for the online part (assignment, quarterly reports) and teaching methods of course. I should be his "elder sister".

That sounds stressful, Kitty. Yes, I think it's wise to just carry on normally with the cat until you know otherwise. LOL at that SHEM! So true. And Snow White and the Seven Dwarves brings back childhood memories.
We haven't ventured onto the slopes yet, FFB! LOL! We took it easy yesterday. In the late afternoon, we visited with dh's various sisters who are in the town. Wow, ds is going to secondary school already! Your boys are growing up fast.
We're taking the cable car up to the ridge. I need to get off and get ready.

helia I don't know the name for collège so I name it secondary school. It's for kids aged 11-15. Then they go to lycée which is 15-18yo. I hope you have a good time socializing with the European part of your extended family. Do they speak English or Dutch (or what) ?
Quiet breakfast talking about everything together, the four of us. And more discussions explaining collège to DS10. Now the dishwasher is working and lasagna veggie sauce is boiling.

Not caught up - but I'm back on this fine rainy Sunday.
I had 4 (!) trips to the Big City last week and, thankfully, only one med. appt. out of the four, the rest were social. Yesterday, my DS and DDIL took me to The Secret Chord - an excellent tribute to Leonard Cohen.
Somehow, despite all the driving, I managed to lose 1lb.
(I did have 15,000 steps by the time I went to bed)
Today:
no more excuses, some stuff needs to get done. We have a long weekend: in theory that should help but:
DGkids are coming later today. I also have them most days next week as they have no camp.
Planning a shopping day on Thursday with DD and I have a haircut in the afternoon.
Later this morning, I will try to get the sandals I never got last week:)

Church was lovely and I was able to have a good chat with DF PM afterwards. The homeless lady who has been frequenting the church has been seen several times deliberately starting small fires and then putting them out in the churchyard.
Everything is tinder dry right now, so it's a huge risk, especially if something relights, and there is also a hostel for vulnerable adults backing onto the churchyard, and the retirement complex where DF E and some other elderly friends live. So,.the vicar is going to have a very stern word with her. Of course it's right to be welcoming to the homeless, but we can't have someone putting lives and property at risk.
Today's cat report - the CCTV in the garden appears to have been turned off remotely (or it's broken). I had a feeling it wasn't working yesterday, and I'm even more certain today. (I've learnt there are ways you can very discreetly check , *without* looking directly at it or going up close, so you dont arouse any suspicion!) I'm going to carry on acting as if it's still working though, just in case I am wrong, but there's a definite difference...
