Well-spent Wednesday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

Make sure your Wednesday is well-spent today - do the important things first, take time for yourself and enjoy the day. A side serving of Anti Procrastination tasks would be the perfect complement, too!

Good morning

We are flipping the 17 number to 18 today with DS18. I am feeling a huge sigh of relief and a tiny bit of accomplishment to have raised him to adulthood. I wouldn't recommended starting over raising (and adopting) babies at the age of 53 but somehow or another we did it. Giving the SHE cyber Aunt's a standing ovation for all the daily joys, drama and nonsense you have helped us get through over the past 18 years.

Last night school event went well. DD15 loves her school schedule with a full load (8 classes) and all the teachers. It was fun to watch her greeting teachers and confidently moving from classroom to classroom. She is so comfortable in this school space that her autism social challenges seem to disappear. DD15 is now a big kid (in high school) so she has the better location of classrooms. Our small school has all 14 grades in the same location but the classrooms are in 3 separate buildings connected by walkways. It isn't a big deal to walk between buildings but now she won't be doing it several times a day. This will be her last year being in our little school all day. Next year she plans to attend vo-tech in the city half days and enroll in college courses. This will also be the last year for me to drive her to/from school. Next year she will be able to drive herself.

Morning. Happy birthday ds 18๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜€

Ohh my goodness Lady M. You and I have more similar than I realized. I am 53 now and I cannot imagine keeping my grandson 18 months now. I love being gramma but being his mom now? I have ds 27 and dd 25. Both married. Dd has just weeks left now till her baby comes. But then 9 years after dd came along ds now 16. Ds is practically an only child now. I think that's the dynamic of the family. Ds16 I knew he was different as a baby. He's still getting used to lil j. It's harder to connect with him cause he's so socially challenged but he up till end of grade 10 was doing like your dd15 and fitting right in at school. I really liked your comment yesterday of successful interaction in the morning. I need to work on myself initiating more interactions with him.

Somehow I think I need that as a goal. I think he's coming out of the deep hole of last week. Better mood but he still disappears to his room. Normal teen I suppose. Successful interaction several times a day . And getting him out of the house at least to the grocery store..asap. he has gone no where since a couple times out when everyone was here. Slow but sure.

Well spent Wednesday. I like it. I've got to do some things for me first. Qt. Crafting. Basic routines. Then groceries. Get more dog food and a couple things at the feed store. Then somehow I made way too many mashed potatoes yesterday and ds liked the idea of trying our hand at home made perogies. Except I have a hair apt booked at 430. He could come too and wash and thin his hair. Optional... I also have to go see mom and connect with her nurses when her hair appointment is. Our hair dresser comes to her at the hospital. And verify dad said yesterday she was missing some of her pants. I feel like they just missed them. Unless dad has a bag of stuff in his broken down truck??? I dunno.

I'm struggling a bit knowing I should be seeing mom more often... it's hard cause I have trouble knowing what to do with her no conversation. I know for a fact she is really well taken care of. I'll get there.

d lady...noooo he is 18 already d lady!!! wow - Happy birthday to your d son!
so happy for your dd on her classes!! wonderful!

d twins. thank you for reminding us to have a well-spent Wednesday! what a great reminder!
very helpful!!!

d Laura can you interest him in something he likes - out of the house - special time type of thing on a regular basis. even just ice cream or some time without talking about the big stuff - just to enjoy him.
it takes time.
enjoy your hair cut appointment - how wonderful

re: no conversation with mom -even if they don't pay attention etc. bc they are stuck in their brain... I used to bring photos and talking about their lives - etc. and tell what's going on - it's all you talking - take a breath and not straight talk - but she gets a lot out of it. My grandfather lost his language with Alzheimer's but he still loved to hold his keys, put things together - keys into a lock, loved the hugs, loved us talking to him. he loved me stroking his hair - my mom loves that as well. it's like when they were babies and their mothers did that. you can see the calm come over my mom. (of course I can't do that if she is irritated/frustrated)

enjoy your day everyone!!!!
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Woo hoo!! It's Wednesday!!!

LadyM you and LordM did a spectacular job from everything I've read over the years!! Congratulations to you and your family! Happy birthday to your DS.

Today I thought I was going to have an easier day. I've been puttering away all morning (since around 6:30ish). It's going to be a scorcher here today which will help dry up the back yard more! Because of all of the flooding in our tiny town, the region (y'all would say county) is having unlimited garbage pick up until the 14th of this month. Farms and vineyards are under water all around us. Businesses and home got flooded basements. Dh and I have no basement and we are both so thankful for that.

Dh wants to cut the grass but it's still too wet.

Thanks blessed. What wonderful ideas. Most of what I do but very hard. I'm not good at one sided conversation. I'll try and do better. Maybe now dd is done work she will send me more pictures and maybe even FaceTime with baby girl when it arrives. I tend to go at her supper time when I have something to help with. Maybe I need to adjust that. Earlier Sunday or Saturday afternoon. Monday Wednesday Friday she goes to activity program at the home she will eventually get to. She's very well taken care of.

I've already been to cemetery and am on my way to getting gravestones back where they belong! I met the woman today with the diagram and some photos from Find a Grave so she can put it back together. I'm hoping none were seriously damaged. And the workers were there going toward the finish line on the construction. That will be off my mind too.

I have body work, i.e. myofascial massage in less than 30 min. I need to eat something quickly and head back out, it's only 5 minutes away. Perhaps go to post office, wash and gas up car today also.

Happy Birthday our cybernephew LadyM's ds18! Best wishes with the new job, too.

Actually, I think Lauralind is saying that, in her 50s, she can imagine how daunting if she needed to start to rear her now-18-month-old grandson. Took me a while to figure that out.

Oh, Lauralind, I had missed that the little granddaughter's birth was so close now.

I again did exercises first thing in the morning before the day could start with its delays.

Moving through my normal daily routines with minimum of effort. Just doing one thing then another.

I made a couple of dishes while I was cooking breakfast. Broccoli/cauliflower/carrot Normandy mix was roasted. Also made a bowl of potato salad using the baked potatoes on hand. I didn't want to bother hard-boiling some eggs to put in the potato salad so I chopped up a variety of cheeses and shaved meats to up the protein %. I suppose with that substitute it is considered a dish other than potato salad, but it tastes good so I'm counting it a win.

Tuna patties out to thaw. Ground chicken out to start thawing. I need to get some ground beef thawing but didn't see any to grab in the freezer so will have to spend some time looking for it. Need to restock.
Me: Hey Alexa, add ground beef to the shopping list.
Alexa response: I've added ground beef to your shopping list....while displaying the other 14 items on the list
