Re: Wally Bailou Wednesday
Wally Ballou is a famous fictional radio reporter created and voiced by comedian Bob Elliott as part of the legendary American comedy duo Bob and Ray. Characterised as an earnest but fundamentally incompetent "man-on-the-street" field journalist, he is widely considered one of the duo's most iconic and enduring satirical characters.
Wally Ballou's opening transmission almost invariably begins with an "up-cut" with him starting early, before his microphone was live, as in "–ly Ballou here". In one of his broadcasts, he was discovered to have started early on purpose and was chewed out by the location engineer (Ray) for making it look as though the mistake was his
Despite his staggering lack of journalistic skill, he is frequently introduced as the proud winner of "16 diction awards" (though the number occasionally varied).Ballou spoke with a distinctively flat, nasal, and permanently stuffed-up voice. He approached every bizarre scenario with unwavering, deadpan professionalism.
Wally Ballou’s primary role was to track down and interview eccentric, daft, or highly specialized individuals played by his comedy partner, Ray Goulding. Notable segments included interviewing a man who took the entire Perisphere monument home after the 1939 World's Fair, or reporting live from a completely silent subway line.
Wally Ballou casts a massive shadow over modern American satire. Legendary comedian Bob Newhart explicitly credited the character as the primary inspiration for his own career-defining, deadpan telephone-monologue routines. Additionally, real-world radio professionals and journalism educators often cite the character as the classic, lovable textbook example of exactly how not to conduct a live remote broadcast.

Re: Wally Bailou Wednesday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Wednesday!
Helia, I'm glad.you.got.to see the full "Avignon Bridge experience". I hope you had a lovely time with your friend.
L.Ann, breakfast out after a long walk sounds lovely.
Dogged, you've got your day off to a good start.
Gma, you do so much you deserve.a lazy day. I hope you can get the wool you need.
The service yesterday.was lovely. The church was packed, with lots of visiting clergy - all.robed -who processed in at the beginning of the service along with the Bishop and the Archdeacon. The Bishop took the service with the right combination of gravitas and humour, and it all.wemt smoothly. Afterwards we had refreshments.
When we.got.home again, the fire was mostly out, but there were still a.couple of appliances on standby at the bottom of our road,. and we.could.see flashing blue lights about half way up the hill,.so I'm guessing that still needed attention.
Today the air quality is definitely better and it's a lovely fresh early morning.. I think temperatures.are.going.to build today, but.I think.tomorrow.is.sipposed.to be the hottest day.

Re: Wally Bailou Wednesday
I'm glad the service yesterday was so nice, Kitty. And that the fire is mostly out. Maybe it's completely out by now?
I'm currently sitting on the train en route to Barcelona. Dh booked the trains slightly incorrectly, so we first went north to catch this train. He said it was a bit confusing when he booked them. It's all good; I'm just grateful he booked the tickets for us. Also, we were pleasantly surprised to discover our tickets today are first class.
LOL! I'm not sure it makes a big difference.
I just finished the GGT spreadsheet for payroll. I think I'll get the S7 exam checklist set up next.
We should arrive fairly early in the afternoon, around 2. This train is running about 20 minutes late.
Next:
- payroll: set up S7 exam checklist
- some qt?
- payroll: collection bin
TaDas!
- up early; back exercises
- s2s and self care
- coffee
- washed up last dishes
- packed up last items
- collected bedding and towels
- taxi at 7:10 a.m.
- messaged Avignon bnb owner - we had left
- train station: bought some bread and water
- train to Valence; switched to train to Barcelona
- payroll: GGT spreadsheet

Re: Wally Bailou Wednesday
Helia, first class train tickets.to Barcelona sounds very smart!
I think the fire is probably out but now, as I haven't heard any signs.of vehicles arriving or departing, and certainly no more sirens. I'll walk down and have a look.once.Ive finished watering the roses. I didn't want to go earlier as I wasn't sure if any of the emergency services were.still there, or clearing up, and don't.want.ro get in the way.
Today is expected to reach 28 C, and air quality.is supposed to be "good". Hmmm, it definitely wasn't "good" yesterday, and although it's better today, I'm not sure how detailed these apps.are, or whether they just lost for the city as a whole.)

Re: Wally Bailou Wednesday
Good morning and thanks for the start.
Just popping in to say hi - I will be back this afternoon after DGkids go home:)
Kittykatt how is it going with Mica. Have you heard from owners?
helia - you are lucky DH takes care of bookings... Such things are strictly my responsibility here?
Waving to Gma, LAnn, Lauralind
No word from trissie, Bama, Dogged? Hope everyone is well.
