John Shuttleworth is a fictional singer-songwriter and radio presenter, created in 1985 and performed by English comedy actor and musician Graham Fellows. Originally from Bamford in Derbyshire, Shuttleworth is in his late 50s and is from Walkley in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. He has a quiet manner and slightly nerdish tendencies. His musical talents are usually expressed through his PSS portable keyboard and include "Pigeons in Flight", a song that Shuttleworth attempted to have selected for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Shuttleworth is a pathetic character, essentially decent and benevolent, but with a painful lack of self-awareness. The unfortunate gap between his actual musical talent and his steadfast belief in the possibility of his eventual pop super-stardom is the main source of the character's tragi-comedy. His "next-door neighbour and sole agent", Ken Worthington is more of a hindrance than a help in John's life.

The character was inspired by some demo tapes sent in to Chappell Music, where Fellows – who had previously had UK chart success as the character Jilted John – worked as a songwriter in the 1980s, and takes some of his mannerisms from Graham's father (who was from Croydon) and from mouse breeders he knew as a young man in Sheffield. A character prototypical of John Shuttleworth appeared on the single "Men of Oats And Creosote", issued under Fellows' own name in 1979.

Appearing on BBC Radio 4's Midweek programme, on 3 June 2015, Fellows suggested that Shuttleworth was an amalgamation of the "very steady types" he had served beer to in a working men's club in Sheffield and the more eccentric characters he had met while showing fancy mice.

Good morning everyone and happy Saturday!

Gma, thank you for your very kind thoughts and encouragement. Your County Fair sounds lovely. I took struggle to keepy.kitchen table clear, as it's such a convenient dumping ground for."stuff". It's actually one.of.my "habits" in the healthy habit three , to clear my table once a day, so it looks nice, even if only for a few hours!

Today is supposed to be sunny and a little cooler, it's certainly.a beautiful start. I'm not sure of DH's plans yet. On my list is to fold the laundry I should have done yesterday (I spent the time in my garden, as I was on a roll and didn't want to stop as the conditions were perfect ) and hopefully spend some time just sitting out in my garden and enjoying it,.along with my usual Saturday list.

L Ann, Baby I is 9.5 months old now. Already. It's going fast.
The history of the papacy is interesting, isn't it Gma? I had no idea until we went to Avignon. It makes sense - it was just something I'd never thought about before - and I'm not Catholic. Rome had fallen and the pope needed to be in a safe place. Honestly, the palace of the pope in Avignon looks like a fort, and the military was very involved in its design and construction.
Thanks for another interesting start, Kitty! All these characters I'd never heard of before.

Yesterday, we enjoyed the Picasso museum very much, though the museum in Paris also has a lot of his works. This one didn't have very many of his cubist pieces or his blue period pieces. I learned more about his life and his almost obsession with the artist Velazquez and his focus on his works. I also got some work done - the GGT emails and organizing docs in the collection bin.

It's the last day of our vacation. Tomorrow, we travel all day - and then some since we'll have 6 extra hours added to our day. LOL!

This morning, dh and I are up quite late - it's almost 10 a.m. I've been awake for about an hour but just goofing off. We're going to head out asap in search of a highly rated bakery. One of the things we've enjoyed immensely on our travels is eating European baked goods - with gluten!!

Later, we're going to do a recommended walk through an interesting neighborhood. We have a dinner reservation at 6 pm, which is super early by Spanish standards, but the only time slot dh could find at this restaurant - also recommended by his grad student. It will be modern tapas.

Isn't Centre Pompidou closed for renovations, helia? I think they are supposed to reopen in 2030 - most of the exhibitions were already moved by the time I was in Paris last summer. I mean, I am not that much into modern arts, so I wasn't terribly dissapointed, but I do plan on returning to Paris to see it one day!
kittykatt, when the garden calls, you gotta answer!

So my two girls are returning home today - I have to unpack, wash everything and repack again, as DH wants to leave at 10am tomorrow. Thanks God for dryers! Also, DBD's room is not finished yet (oh boy, was it bad), so that will be my focus. Once they are gone tomorrow, I will sneak in DS15's room and get it deep cleaned - getting a head start on the House&Holidays plan

trissie, there’s a Picasso only museum in Paris, Musee National Picasso. We went with the kids many years ago, like maybe 15 years ago. We chose the Picasso museum over the Pompidou, which was in the same vicinity, if I remember correctly. We also went to the Louvre, of course!

I see, helia! There's just so many wonderful museums in Paris! I do prefer the Musee d'Orsay - but then again, my era of choice is impressionism and Italian Rennaisance. But Paris will cater to any preferences!

DtDT just arrived. DBD's coming in an hour - her room is perfect, but it's good. Time to switch the gears!

I disappeared: Grammy camp was in full swing this week... Thursday was a 10 hour day... My house shows it.
I had to skip a couple of workouts but I kept up DDog's walks.
We did a lot of baking with my DGD - it made her very happy. The results were shared with everyone and frozen for a later day:)
