A very accurate SHEM today. yes, as everyone has noted, Mica is in good hands. But I am sure that you are eager to have the uncertainty of the situation resolved. How long have they been gone now? And continue to "delay" their return. You have noted that their place looks empty and abandoned, so I am with you, expecting that they are not planning to return.
l.ann, enjoy time at the library. Do you have to bring yard waste somewhere? Or is it picked up?

I got out of bed today and immediately go to work. My dw is loaded and run through. Counters are wiped off.
Rice pudding is simmering in a double boiler on top ot the stove.
Cardamon bread is in my thoughts, as well as "sunshine cake" for ds birthday tomorrow.
Junk/potholder drawer is emptied, vacuumed out, washed, dried, and put back together.
Found one of those cellulose "dishcloths" that dsis3 gave me. I don't like using them, but this one says: I's officially flour in every part of the kitchen season. I taped it to the back splash for a smile.
Potholders would benefit from washing - in the near future, not today.

Hmm, I've been focusing on the K for about 3 1/2 hours - that doesn't look like a lot accomplished, but I am ready for a break. I have no cookies, but I do have a last slice from the farmer's market cantaloupe.

Hello, all. I thought that I would start my day with the DPCs and get them over with. Like swallowing a bull frog when you first wake up, so that the worst part of your day is already over with. I'm on hold.

Some days are achievement days and some days we just do what we can, kitkat. It all counts.

Thanks, Harriet. We are back to settled weather and the migraine has migrated, I am happy to say. I feel all energetic and ready to tackle my day.
You know what they say: baking is a science, not an art. Your DH is probably in a better position to scale down than a cook would be to scale up, LOL.

That brings me to the end of Page 1. I'll see what I can get done while tied to this phone.

It is cloudy today and a bit cool, rather pleasant.

I'm finishing lunch after my payroll meeting. Somehow, after these weekly check in meetings, I end up with more on my todo list. LOL! I've also agreed to sub for a teacher tomorrow morning after my breakfast with AC. I won't get home from that much before dbro + dniece arrive, but it's OK. I won't sweat getting the house picture perfect for them. The guest room is tidy and already has clean bedding on the beds, so not that much to do.

I started decluttering. I got out all my long pants, not including my hiking pants (1), leggings (3?), capris (9), and PJ pants (3?)). I own 32 pairs. (Including hiking pants, leggings, capris, and PJ pants - it's 48 pairs.) I think that's too many for me.

It took about 20 minutes to get through to an agent, so it wasn't too bad, helia. This organization has two theatres: one very close to me and one out of town with some of the worst traffic in the city between me and it. They put on shows of excellent quality for low cost. The centre near me got flooded in that really bad Canada Day storm. The theatre's highest seats are level with the main floor, and then you walk down toward the stage. The agent told me that the water was even with the main floor. It's not only soaked seats and walls; all of the equipment was destroyed. At the moment they are predicting that they will reopen in January, but I think that's optimistic.
You can picture how the call centre would be swamped. They are staffed for the normal sales calls, but now they have the rush of refund requests to cope with on top. The service was good, considering.
Are you looking forward to seeing your dbrother and dniece? Or is it more like an exercise in patience?

Gma, I'm sure that your kitchen has benefited from your efforts. After working on things, I often look around and say "How does my apartment look worse than when I started?"

Glad you got through, Doggedly, and wow. That sounds like quite the flood. Yes, my brother is quite difficult for us to host. He doesn't help or pick up his stuff or ask questions or show any real interest in us. Last time, he said very inappropriate racial things to the server at the restaurant we took him to. We're not taking him there again. He is quite obese so we've had to strategize re: which chairs he sits on in the past. Sometimes he has a strange/ bad odor, which is a weird thing to say, but it bothers dh quite a bit. Dbro didn't help when my mother was in the nursing home. He wouldn't even drive 30 miles (1 way) to visit her, so I ended up driving 350 miles one way to visit her every 4-5 weeks for 2.5 years. . . I could give many many other examples, including my own father complaining to me months before he passed that dbro was just waiting for him to die so he could get into the house asap -- which is exactly what happened. He's been living in the house for free (off the trust) since the day my father passed. He has no IRL friends, which is a bit sad and not healthy. Ironically, he sees himself as very generous and magnanimous and kind of like the "cool chummy uncle" with the girls, a view which the girls do not share. He has a strange focus on dd28 right now. It used to be dd30. And he totally ignores ds. My girls also find him difficult to be around, and we have created strategies to share time with him in the past so the girls were never alone with him. . . I think he's not really in touch with social reality. Ha! Probably TMI.

The day is not going as planned. AS is moving my work out to tomorrow. I have scheduled a brief meeting with teacher C tomorrow as well.

Nothing wrong with sharing, helia. Sometimes it does good just to say it out loud and be heard. I have received plenty of support from our dfs here when I was struggling to get my old foster family out of my life, and then the years of trying to get that woman's negative voice out of my head. And you all hear plenty about my db, though those are happy conversations, LOL.

Rice pudding finished - there's always more than I can eat, so
1 bowl brought to friends who dearly love it.
Cardamon bread raising before going into the oven - soon. It's preheating.
helia, Cardamon bread, I think is Scandinavian tradition. My mother used to make it when we were young. I made it for a while, then kinda quit. Then I had a trip to Sweden after dh died. Every hotel we stayed at had delicious cardamon bread at the breakfast table. The last day, I wrapped a few pieces up to take home. Shared them with ds and mother. Both loved it, and I started baking it again. It's basically a mildly sweet yeast bread, with butter and eggs, and freshly crushed cardamon seeds steeped in hot milk for the liquid. My recipe makes 4 braids. A very similar recipe is a tradition on Shrove Tuesday. Make buns instead of braids, cut them in half horizontally, and fill with cardamon flavored whipped cream. I think cardamon is a spice from India, so I don't know how it got to Sweden. I didn't encounter cardamon bread when I went to Norway. My cardamon bread takes less time than my rye bread.
I got my K nicely clean - then have made a good mess with pudding and yeast bread.
And I emptied out my car - onto my K table, so there's that to deal wtih as well.
But I want to crochet a little befoer I tackle the table (again )
