Re: House Sparrow Sunday
The house sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a familiar, streaky brown bird of towns, parks and gardens. Males sport a grey cap and black bib, the size of which indicates their status. They have chestnut wings with white wingbars. Females and juveniles are a drab brown. Tree sparrows look similar to male house sparrows, but have a brown crown and a black spot on each cheek.
The house sparrow is an opportunistic bird of towns and cities, parks, gardens and farmland. House sparrows feed on a variety of foods, including buds, grains, nuts and scraps, and will visit birdtables and feeders. They live in colonies and nest in holes or crevices in buildings, among Ivy or other bushes, and in nestboxes; they use a variety of materials to make their nests. Both parents will incubate the three to five eggs and raise the young. House sparrows are residents in the UK, but may disperse from their breeding grounds to feed on nearby farmland and grassland in winter.
Originally native to Europe and Asia, house sparrows have colonised every continent except Antarctica, and can be found from Buenos Aires to Alaska, New Zealand to Cape Town. They are now the most widespread birds in the world.

Re: House Sparrow Sunday
◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
Kittykatt, thanks for the start. Glad to read Mica's owners are back. Wishing you a good time at church and a peaceful Sunday at home later. I enjoy watching sparrows any seaon.
Gma you've done a lot of working on your DM's house. it seems there is a lot of stuff to sort and declutter in each room, and it seems like the house has a lot of rooms.
We have rain alternating with sunrays. A long list of to-dos today, but I intend to take some rest as well. Yesteerday's family movie night was Checkered Ninja 2, we had seen the 1st movie three weeks ago.
Our "yellow" garbage can (wheelie bin) for recyclable was stolen, it was on the street by Thursday night and is gone. We need to file a complaing to the gendarmerie (national military-style police) and make a replacement request to the intermunicipal authority (communauté de communes aka "comm-comm"). In the meantime we have no place to store all the recyclable garbage, and the "normal" garbage bin is not large enough if we put everything in it and it won't have any chance to be recycled.
TADAs
all fed bfast
some laundry (delicates) and handwashed some items
self-care
harvested the corn cobs that remained, but they are tiny and not well "garnished"
looked at summer pictures DS10 took, some are beautiful (he uses a panasonic DFIL gave us)
TODO
eat lunch (MrNG did lasagna with ravioles and zucchini)
file a complaint online for our missing garbage bin
back-to-school preps : pack DS10's bag for the first day, prepare DS8's school supplies and bag for first day
other to-dos, so many of them
post list for next week
cook dinner (chick pea stew)
some exercise
shower and relax
bedtime routine
bed reasonably early

Re: House Sparrow Sunday
I was very glad to read that Mica's owners are back, Kitty. I hope you have a nice morning at church. What is the lunch menu today?
FFB, I'm sorry someone stole your recycling bin. Grr......How long do you think it will take to get a replacement?
Oh, what a fun movie outing, L Ann!
I'm up and sitting in a quiet house for the moment. Dh has gone on an 8 mile run. It's a bit drizzly outside but probably just enough to cool him down when he starts to feel hot.
I just slept for 9 hours again. I think I've been sleeping 9-10 hours/ night for the last 3 or so nights. I guess I need more sleep right now?
Yesterday: I didn't make it back here. It was a pretty productive day. Dh started laundry - and I finished it. We cleared off the cedar chest in our bedroom. I went for a jog/ walk at the park (flat terrain along the river), and the girls came with me and went for a walk. Later that afternoon, I dropped them at the movie theater - they saw the new Spiderman movie. Dh picked them up. I made a quick trip to WF, and made a nice meal of peanut chicken/ tofu, rice, roasted cauliflower, and corn on the cob. We ate outside on the patio. Afterward, dh and I gassed my car and went out for coffee to catch up. Then, once home again, we looked at our calendars to see when would be a good time for trips with the girls. We agreed that next weekend would not be the best weekend to go up north, especially if we're going for only 2 nights - because of dh's deadline on Wednesday and the fact that the nicest accommodations are all taken as it is very last minute. We can do a 2 night trip on any weekend.
Today: We're going to church at 10, but we don't know if the girls are coming with us or not. We invited them. Our niece goes to church regularly in Germany but K does not. Since this is an African American denomination, it's style will be new to them, which could be a great experience - the BEST worship music in town - but they'd need to get over some "fear of the unknown" first. We'll see what happens. I might join dh at a coffee shop this afternoon. I also might need to pick up a chicken from WF. A long walk on the flat would be good. My legs were rather sore last night after a 1 mile jog + walk but are feeling fine this morning. I think we're having Sunday dinner tonight - all 10 of us + 2 puppies.
Next:
- finish reclaiming the kitchen
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- make the bed
Later:
- 9:45 otd to church
- lunch
- after lunch clean up
- WF?
- declutter my bedside table
- long walk OR jog/ walk again

- this might be a good day to figure out a new knitting project

Re: House Sparrow Sunday
Hello, FFB, L.Ann and Helia!
I'm.sorry about the stolen recycling bin, FFB , and the frustrating procedure to replace it. Would it help to get some stickers with your house number on when you receive the replacement? That's what our road does, as it makes it easier to identify one's own bin, and so far we haven't had any stolen.
Enjoy the Harry Potter, L.Ann!
Did the Girls decide to accompany you to church, Helia? Our lunch menu today was roast shoulder of lamb, roast potatoes , mint jelly, gravy, carrots, tenderstem broccoli and green beans, followed by profiteroles.
Church was eventful, as just before the service, the big pipe organ decided to stop working mid note.
. Fortunately we also have a little electric organ, so we still had music. Also fortunately, we have some breathing space to get it fixed, as there aren't any concerts requiring the organ in the immediate future, and the next wedding where the organ has been booked isn't until November.
This afternoon is showery with a chance of thunderstorms. Fred has been for his walk and I've done a little deadheading in my front garden. Matilda is now on my lap, so I don't think I'll be going anywhere for a while!
