Motivated Monday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.
Zig Ziglar
How do you get motivated?

Some thoughts on motivation from Zen Habits Leo Babauta Full article is here: https://zenhabits.net/life-changing/

His thoughts:
The Make It Happen Actions
These are the set of actions that I’ve found to help overcome fears, find motivation, and prioritize:

Find a purpose. You might already know what your purpose is, but it’s good to review it and keep it at the forefront of your thoughts. If you don’t have a purpose, start here: what will you want to look back on at the end of your life? What will make your life feel significant? What will give your life some meaning? If you don’t have an answer to these questions, it’s worth spending a little time here. Go for a walk and think about it.

Embrace your desire. You’re reading this article because you have a desire to do something positive in your life. Embrace that. Isn’t it wonderful that you have this desire? See this as the first positive step, one you’ve already taken. Now use it and take action.

Create the space. You won’t make any changes if you don’t create a small space for the change. When will you start making the change? In the morning, in the evening, during your lunch break? Don’t wait for the change to happen - make it happen. Block off some time on your calendar each day, even if it’s just 10 or 15 minutes. If you don’t have the time, think about how long you spend each day on Facebook, TV, games, or doing smaller tasks that aren’t as important. Push those back for just a bit, and do what’s most important to you first.

Surround yourself. The best way to make change happen is to surround yourself with others making a similar change themselves, others who will support your change. Find a few people online or off, and create a support team that will check in with each other regularly. Yes, this might take some work. Yes, you can do it.

Make the accountability. Find at least one person who will hold you accountable for making this change. It might be the support team mentioned above, or a coach, or an accountability partner. Tell them not to let you off the hook.

Take a small action. If you’re overwhelmed by a large change, or a bunch of large change, just focus on one small step. What small action can you take today that will move you forward? It might be something as simple as “do an Internet search about selling my quilts online”, or “call Freddie to ask him to hold me accountable”. Take a small step, and get moving. Movement begets movement. Now take another small step. This is how change is created.

Good morning

Twins - thank you for that start and motivation information.
My biggest motivation is making a choice.....do I want to do it or experience the consequences of not doing it.
Consequence are not only difficult to experience but then I have to restart from rock bottom and rebuild.

I'm in hour #3 of my day. DS18 has been launched to work with a couple chit-chatty sessions, DD15 has been delivered to what she calls her second home (school). DH and I walked the trail at the park for about 15 minutes before he needed a bathroom. Now I'm enjoying kicking my feet up for a few minutes, regrouping my thoughts while enjoying the last of my cup of coffee. #SweetMoment

Peeking at the 10 day weather forecast shows nothing to be excited about yet. Sept 9th (10 days from now) still shows over 100F and bone dry. One day I'm going to look at the 10 day forecast and see something different. It is that expectation that keeps me looking every morning with hope.

I'm heading out for a haircut in a couple of minutes. I have a workout at two and we have dinner out for our anniversary (40 years!) with A and V.

So it's in and out of the house today. I'll start the roomba when I come back with fresh hair - it didn't start charging yesterday after it did the porch, so I had to reboot it. Charging now...

After workout I need to go by cemetery because I need to write a check for the fence repair - this is where the tree fell - assuming the repair is acceptable. No reason to think it won't be. Realized that when I did the HOA checks yesterday I made one to the wrong person, and there's another that I had forgotten about, so need to do those tomorrow too.

I was thinking of LadyM when my hips were achy overnight. I have body work tomorrow and that usually helps for a few days.

Out the door I go!

New Card Magical Monday!
I've walked with my friend and we were both raring to go.
___________ friend is on the hunt for the perfect peaches.

I have been up since a bit before four.
Woke up in a pile of sweaty pj's sigh so had to get out of them and put fresh ones on
1st thing today. Got sucked into the planner zone. Working on my new habit to get
food & Rx log on 2 pages a day. Day one started okay. I am first trying to get it set up
to a more ease of use format & not to complicated.

Hot lemon tea now as it's cold out 51* when I got up today had to put on my denim shirt.

Today's mission: Grate up some zucchini to freeze up.

Waving thanks for the great insp.!

found that quote I wanted to find last week

WTG!
I agree. The simplest method is the easiest to stay up with. While I enjoy working with complex, formula-driven data, there’s always the chance it could break or malfunction, turning it into a source of frustration.

DH first meal was eggs, hot links and hash browns. His plate was full and stacked high. I thought it was too much food but know his appetite is 3+ times more than mine so I just went with it. It made me smile when he asked "No bagels today?" I teasingly replied "dude! Your plate is piled high! There was no room for bagels today"
Note to self....always include bagels in his first meal of the day.

I'm enjoying a ME vs ME hourly challenge that I didn't design. It just happened. I started using paper to jot down my step count each hour. I'm not perfect at doing it every hour of every day but over time it is giving me an idea of my average. It lets me know that I'm being an overachiever or need to get moving more. I just recorded step count in 9 - 10am slot and I beat all the previous 9-10am time slot days in august. Competitive much? Oh yeah. But only when I'm competing against myself.

Potatoes scrubbed and put into the instant pot. Life is so much easier when there is a carb ready to serve.
Vegetable of the day selected. I couldnt decided between spinach and black eyed peas so they were both the winner.

I'm up -- kinda at it -- somewhat motivated.

The plumber is here, putting in a new field line for the washer drain. I hope I can keep the mower and the men who cut hay off it! They have been cutting hay over my septic tank and field lines for a LONG time... but the plumber says this new drain for the washer will not hold up under the large tractors. He said he would put some little flags over it.

I need to do some vacuuming, but I want to be able to hear the doorbell when the plumber is ready to run the washer again.

Today's Top Priorities
* Wmart pick up
* Tahoe to the mechanic
* Ballgame at 5:30

I am trying to think of the "simplest thing," to help get myself started. For example (and this will sound silly to most of you) I know once I turn on the shower, I am going to get in and shower, wash hair, etc. Somehow though, when my alarm goes off at 10:30 for "bedtime routine," it is SOOO hard for me to get out of the recliner and just GO... START... shower, brush teeth, take pm meds... it's a really short routine, but I'll sit there through that alarm and it will be midnight before I know it.
Tomorrow is another day.

LucyLee - I am the same way with evening routine.

I just saw this post by James Clear
A Monday morning question for you:

I'm not usually awake from 5am to 6am, but when I am I tend to enjoy it. Start the day slow. Watch the sunrise. Get a few things done before everyone else wakes up.

Meanwhile, I am often awake from 10pm to 11pm and I find that I tend to use it poorly. Passively watching TV or scrolling on a screen. Late-night snacking. Generally focusing on things that are fairly unimportant.

Trading the last hour of the night for the first hour in the morning would be a pretty high-value trade for me.

Which hours of your day tend to return the most value and which ones tend to return the least?

I met with the d young lady from the electric dog fence company. It turns out the reason the dog was getting out, in one area, is because the one dogs collar was failed. I didn't have to pay for the replacement bc it was under warranty!!! Yay!!! it is now working!!!

Clever girl had her dad's friend make a stuffed fake squirrel -, that stayed balanced as she moved it, attached to a fishing line to test dogs to see if they would cross the electric line. Dog did not go through the electric fence now that her collar is fixed. Yes! tickled pink.

I have a funeral to go to at 3:00 - my d brother in laws father.

- feeling a bit overwhelmed but I try to do one thing on my card file.
I know I will feel better after that.

waving to you all

hello d lady! your breakfast sounds great! glad your dh loved it!!! I love the me vs me challenge - it is a great idea
my dad used to say the only person to compete against is bettering yourself - challenge yourself - he was talking about golf, racquetball etc.

hello d Lucy - I am the same! enjoy your errands and your ballgame!

hi d Nancy - yay on your walk! I too love fresh peaches - hope your df finds delicious ones.
waving at you - love the new card Monday!!!

hi d twins can't wait to see your spiffy and beautiful haircut!!! hope your hips feel better! waving at you as you go out the door
thank you for a great start!!
it is always a joy to be here with you!

Good afternoon! This Monday is being very much a Monday -- trouble getting out of bed, many little things going wrong, etc. Reading here, though, I have come to the conclusion that when I redo cards (needs to be soon, since schedules have changed around here), I need to change them to alternate between more and less physical things. When I have something physical followed by something else physical, I tend to rest in between, and that "rest" ends up going a long time. I'm losing a good bit of time that way.

Dfriend K is off work this week and has invited me to come over and hang out (bringing my stitching if I like) while she quilts. If I weren't running behind, I'd be there now. I can't really go over there tomorrow unless she is willing to pick me up. DC will have the car for school, and even if I can get my butt in gear, they are slow enough in the morning that they won't be able to spare the time to drop me off.

I want to take DD out driving, but she wanted to eat lunch first, and then she wanted to spend some time digesting. I'm not sure if she's still digesting or waiting for me to prod her, so I should go soon.

Happy Anniversary (and Congratulations on 40 years!) to Twins' Mom and Twins' Dad!

And a belated Happy Birthday to lucylee!
