The willow flute, also known as sallow flute (Norwegian: seljefløyte, Swedish: sälgflöjt or sälgpipa, Finnish: pitkähuilu or a general term pajupilli, is a Nordic folk flute, or whistle, consisting of a simple tube with a transverse fipple mouthpiece and no finger holes. The mouthpiece is typically constructed by inserting a grooved plug into one end of the tube, and cutting an edged opening in the tube a short distance away from the plug.

The willow flute is a type of overtone flute. It is played by varying the force of the air blown into the mouthpiece, with the end of the tube being covered by the finger or left open. The tones produced are based on the harmonic series. Playing the instrument with the end of the tube covered produces one fundamental and its overtones, playing it with the end of the tube left open produces another fundamental and series of overtones. Willow flutes cannot play an equal tempered scale.

Modern willow flutes are typically made of plastic (PVC tubing is often used), but the original willow flutes were made from sections of bark cut from green willow branches. Willow flutes could only be made this way during the spring, and became unplayable when the bark dried out.

There is also a Karelian variant of the willow flute that is made in Finnish Karelia and the Russian Republic of Karelia. It is made the same way as the willow flute, but instead of willow bark, it is made out of birch bark. The Karelian Folk Music Ensemble, based out of Petrozavodsk in Russian Karelia, uses this instrument in their music.

Today DH goes to the office and I'm at home. My plans.s.are.goi g.to depends on the weather. Ideally I'd like to do some more autumn tidying in my garden, but it needs to be dry for that, and the forecast did mention rain (they're often wrong, so I'll wait until it's light to make a decision! )

laurlind, I am happy for you and for your mother that a room is opening up for her. Yes, always sad to know that someone had to die to make room for someone else. 9 months has been a long wait!
helia, I hope your muscles get better quickly.

dsis3 and I have gone through just ablut 1/2 of the garage that has summer and winter yard decorations. Wednesday we are taking some of my father's stuff to a museum, then we will come back and (hopefully) finish that garage, and perhaps start on the garage that has autumn. I will have to figure out how to advertise a yard decor sale. I will have to find a couple friends will help me with it. It's not for making money, it's for getting rid of. So I have decided not to price anything, but just to ask people to make donations to a charity. I hope that works.

We are having fun: supper tonight was cantaloupe, corn on the cob, brownies and ice cream. Neither of us was very hungry; we did have a good midday meal, and we had been drinking (water) much of the afternoon, because we worked for a time in the attic which was pretty hot.

Then the AC quit working. Repair technician will come on Thursday because we will be gone much of Wednesday.

Now it's my bedtime.

Sleep well, Gma! You're getting lots done - WTG! None of this may pay to your situation, but on my estate, if someone wants to advertise something.(Garage sale / missing cat/ exercise.classes.etc) They usually tie leaflets to lamp posts, put up an advert at the community shop, or simply have a board outside their house advertising the sale. I'm sure everything will feel much "lighter" when it's gone to new homes. Iirc, your DMum was quite famous for her beautiful displays in her garden? I'm sure people.are.going to be keen to buy something, both as a memory of your DMum,.and to make their own gardens pretty.

Ive had all the cats on the bed for their morning biscuit. I've tried to do a few exercises with someone sitting on top of me, but I'm not sure if that's what's meant by "weighted exercises"!

Hello Kitty! I wonder if you were able to get out into your garden today? I think those count as weighed exercises.
WTG on the progress in the garage, Gma! Glad you're having fun with your sister.

I didn't get back here yesterday. It was a bit crazy - at one point, the window washers, the gardener KJ, and the lawn guys were all here at the same time. Usually, they don't need to talk to me, but the main window washer guy had questions from time to time, and KJ and I had a long conversation at one point. She is also a teacher at our school! I didn't get out the door to the grocery store until almost 4 pm. Then, I helped dh get dinner ready. We were 7 + 1 dog.

Today is also quite scheduled:

3:20 (or whenever I get there) work out with AS

Morning all. Kittykat that makes a little more sense 2 different systems in the retirement situation. A step in the right direction is good. Hopefully he can be done when he wants to be.

Helian that is a lot of action at once.

I'm sure your sale will be wonderful gma. That is a lot of work but the neighbors and community will gladly support you and your mom.

I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed today. What with still waiting for grandbaby. Ddil family is struggling as her grandpa is not doing well. Mom is moving. Physio again today that feels a bit frustrating. I'm going to ask her again about maybe it's how I sleep? I've been waking up with tingly numb arms a lot lately. Oh and yesterday at work was a bit overwhelming with big shipment that we didn't complete.. and 2 missing staff. I didn't get to call the school. Hopefully ds wakes up in good frame of mind so I can see what he wants. Call school. I think I need to talk to someone first about how summer went and his goals and lack of hope. Then have him go in and see them and figure out how it is going to work. I need him to actually be in school for social and involvement. But in some ways some online classes mostly done at school to keep him on track. Because if he can succeed online the education level is triple of in class time.

Ugh I don't even know where to begin. Then there's garden stuff to deal with.
