LadyM, so difficult for your dbro. Horses are such long-lived companions, and it sounds like Gyro led a life in which he was really appreciated. About the girls' weekend plans, can you talk to a parent and make sure they understand that you do have a lot of responsibilities in addition to hosting? Their dd will need to be mature and calm - even helpful when she can. I'd hope ds can be around to cast an eye over his mom's well-being, and also make sure you are not swamped with hosting other teens while you need to zero in on a new, younger child.
Nancy, that's nice that puppy gets a new non-sliding dish on your birthday.

I have been giving in to what I suppose is a flare-up with IBS. Doctor says my symptoms point to that diagnosis. I have not been to the doctor this week, but today I have drunk a lot of Gatorade and I have gotten a lot of rest. It has just been a hectic * and expensive * week. The plumber finished up Monday... I picked up the Tahoe yesterday (with the engine mount replaced) (and it is running GREAT)... but... all this is approaching $1500.
Then, after I told dmom I was THROUGH with that Corvette, I found out ddil is going to be really upset if dmom sells it (and ddil says ds feels the same, he just doesn't want to say.) I think we (dmom and I) underestimated ddil's feelings for my ddad. She moved down here without any of her family, and she really relied on my dad for a lot of advice, I think. He got their first house ready for them, helped them pick out their first car after hers died... it's not that she wants a fancy sports car; she just doesn't want dmom to get rid of one of the last things that meant anything to my dad.
So I've been nervous about that situation along with watching my own money flying out the door to plumbers and mechanics,
and this morning, I think I had had enough. I did not go to yoga, and I almost didn't go to church tonight, but I decided I would, and I made it fine. (Even ate a slice of pizza and a brownie.)
We planned to celebrate my birthday yesterday, but dmom cancelled because her leg is hurting so bad, and then ddil had to work late, so we just switched to tomorrow. My birthday always makes me anxious anyway. I don't really like being the center of attention and asking people to come over here and give me a gift, you know? I'm fine with asking them to come over and celebrate ds, ddil, or dgrands... I just don't like being the recipient. And yes, of course, ds/ddil SHOULD do the inviting, but they have been so busy the past week or so, I went ahead and told dbil/dsisil when they wanted to do this. I'll be glad when it's over.
* Dmom thinks she has pulled a muscle in her groin. How? She has no idea.
Today, despite being extremely lazy and babying my stomach, I have
* gone to the post office
* paid the water bill
* vacuumed and washed the ac vents at the carwash
* tried to find the plumber so I could pay him
* went to church
I know exactly what you mean about stepping outside and experiencing the benefits of a sauna, LadyM! Except one has to wear more CLOTHING outdoors than would be required in a sauna. The jury is still out re: whether I will wear shorts to the game Friday night. Probably not. There is a very small crowd at Monday night games, but usually a HUGE crowd at Friday night games. I don't think I want to show off my legs to the whole town.
