We are having a lovely sunrise this morning and I'm up to see it. There's two blessings I can count for the day and I'm not even dressed yet!

I'll weigh in (pun intended!) on the Type 2 diabetes debate.

Just as diabetes used to be defined as juvenile and adult-onset, before they called it type 1 and 2, I'm sure type 2 will be divided at some point, back to one that is adult onset for some reason (probably genes) and one that is obesity caused and controlled. I seem to recall one of the reason it was renamed type 1 & 2 was that obese children were developing 'adult onset' so that monicker didn't apply anymore.

That being said, diabetes would hit me like a ton of bricks if I got the diagnosis because there is no family history of it. I need to make sure I eat regularly because I turn into the Tasmanian devil if my blood sugar drops but any blood tests I have show things are just fine.

<Rant> It does make a fasting blood draw interesting for me since I'm already bi&*hy and have very low blood pressure so my draws tend to be long, emotionally and physically painful events as I try and control my temper at the stupid things the nurse says. Like, "you should have had something to drink before", really? The 1.5 liters I've had already aren't enoug? Or, "you should have moved around a bit to keep your blood pressure up." Well, I've already walked 2 miles today but then you had me sit in the waiting room for 45 minutes. </Rant>

I've got the boys here today because their mom has a worship committee meeting and they are starting swimming lessons. The pool is a private, indoor, pool in our village so she'll drop them off here, and I'll take them, in turn, to their lessons. I'm actually looking forward to doing a 'mom' thing again.

Agreed, diabetes also does not run in my family, so perhaps I will be spared despite poor, even rotten, choices in life and will never even know it. Doesn't seem fair, since in HRH's family things are very different, and he had a bogus diagnosis once that really disappointed him - I'm glad that's over but aware it is no guarantee. But there are those with the family tendency (gene, predisposition) who go through life without the diagnosis because of excellent choices - some may be because they have learned from family generational knowledge and are educated in how to care for themselves, who knows.

Nancy had to correct me in the past when I quoted from books regarding diabetes cures due to restrictive diets, that we first must separate Type 1 from that concept - it definitely cannot be cured. Even for Type 2, there is controversy about whether the word "cure" should be used, but doctors who use it argue that if no markers of the disease can be found any more, science must declare that the person does not have Type 2 diabetes any more. Others say that since the person might go back into disease by changing (eating) habits, there has been no cure, even if markers never return.

Anyway, it is not Deen's fault or anybody else's that they face any gene-dependent diagnosis. Someday we may have blood-typing for our children that gives us an early answer, but as of now we don't know in advance. Deen has a reputation for preparing (and we don't know for sure what she actually puts in her mouth) foods that would be bad for a person with the gene for Type 2, and she has a big following. It seems that so often those cooking personalities who prepare healthy dishes don't get the air-time. Maybe if a popular one like Deen starts focusing differently it would be a positive thing. But the reason we don't watch her is that we don't enjoy her on-air persona as much as others.

Quiet morning in the village. I've been occupied with making a sign for a meeting this afternoon - you might call it creative work since I've been using the new Silhouette Cameo to cut out the letters. I wrapped some foam core board (I always kept some around for dkids last minute projects) in blue wrapping paper for the background, and cut letters out of cheap white cardstock.

DH has gone to the office for awhile and I need to s2s and get through the rest of a.m. routine and some dailies. We need to leave here about 3:15, after the meeting we're going out to dinner with a group.

Church is done.

Boys are here and have had something to eat. I've taken the youngest over to the pool and go back with the older two in 10 minutes.

I've been running on God time for almost 11 months but today am wearing a watch. Suddenly, faced with getting three little people to lessons (and having to build in time to change them, put on winter clothes and take stuff off at the other end), I remember why I grew so dependent on a watch!

We have made it thru our first night in the desert. We have also been to breakfast and are now officially stuffed!!!

I had a wonderful garden omelet that was just full of mushrooms, onions and peppers. And they served grits. I had to ask for butter to go with the grits, however.

Not sure what we will be doing the rest of the day. I finally got my blog up with pictures of the new bed. I'd like to go shopping at the flea market. But it is pretty cold and windy out. Supposed to turn nicer tomorrow.

Re: Diabetes I had gestational diabetes when I was young and thin, and pre-diabetes, doc. said to watch out for & thought I'd get type 2 not type one. I was obese then lost that weight and got type 1 not type two Getting a diab. diag. rocks your world even if you're have the genes for it.

My grandpa had glaucoma ate the southern diet; was thin and never got type 1 or 2, his wife my granny got type two [she was round] died from heart aliment. All my aunts uncles [living] [their kids] have type two some are round some not. Genetics sucks some times!

I love to watch Paula D. b/c she reminds me of my granny and the southern drawl gives me warm fuzzies. I do hope all the buzz around this issue is a wake up call for a lot of folks and her & Elton Brown & other foodies on their shows change over to healthier cooking and teach us how!

Around here sometimes we cook what folks will eat some times we cook what's healthy.

I'm grateful for Dr. Oz it's a good thing; but there are times that even doctors him and others on that show do not make the distinction between type one and type two when it comes to eating etc.

Crock pot is going with chili for today a super good choice as it snowed.
We are home today not venturing out with the white stuff on the roads here.
I've cleared now off the deck, patio, and drive way.

Had coffee and having some tea now.
Yesterday I had fun watching dgson's bball game even though I did not want to attend was glad I went! Those kid's have improved since last year.
My back is a bit better each day.
Bs #'s were in an acceptable range this morning.

It's bitterly cold outside but I am blessed to be warm & comfy inside my home.

Taking it easy today. Some paperwork needs to be done to get a jump on next week. I also need to write a menu plan or at least go through some recipes to give myself ideas for the rest of the month. Looking forward to doing some misc planning after lunch.

Have been mulling over ideas in my head for a winter wreath for the front door. I have decided I want snowflakes . I'm thinking of cutting out shapes in dark blue/light blue/white/silver using construction paper, computer paper, & tin foil, since I have all those things on hand. Then glue them to a wreath form or maybe cut out a wreath shape from cardboard to glue the snowflakes to so that the whole thing is flat.

Today's plans have changed several times already! Originally, it was going to be DGS's birthday party this afternoon, and the crafting potluck party this evening (DD and DGD were going to come with me). Then - due to brutally cold windchill and poor road conditions, the potluck was removed from the plans. I just don't feel comfortable taking a 3 month old baby out in this if I don't have to. Now, DD wants me to come over and help get things ready for the party Just like her momma, she's a world-class procrastinator. So.....now DH will be going to DQ to pick up the ice cream cake, I will get dressed, dig out my car, and head over there early....and we still don't know if DS is coming - he's still sleeping!

Ugh! I suppose I'd better get moving!

Youngest boy back, elder two in the pool now. I have 10 minutes until it is time to pick them up.

Youngest is drinking hot chocolate (no kidding! it is cold to walk from a pool to the car when it is almost 0 outside even if you do have your clothes and coat and boots on!) and having his after swim snacks (applesauce, granola bar, crackers) plus leftovers from lunch.

I'm competent. Haven't drowned or lost a kid yet. If I get through the after noon without a change in that status, today will be a success!
