Dee: One can buy the cloth document holders on a string. I cut the strings off, and pin the holder on the inside of my waist band. Into that, I carry a laminated copy of my passport or my passport (on a ship they often take your passports to make clearing immigration faster) and a credit card and/or bank card. I have two of these so don't have to move them as much (one goes into my pants, the other moves from skirt to skirt, except one of my skirts has a pickpocket safe passport pocket already.)

This is what I do when I go ashore or am land touring; the change would be to do it all the time on the ship since it would stick with me if I had to swim. On an airplane, I have a special pocket in my blazer for my passport (it seals shut to stop the passport from falling out.)

When ashore the hidden pocket means reaching down under my waistband to pull out anything but is pick-pocket proof so I carry only cash in my purse and my room key, passport (if not on a ship) and credit card goes into the hidden pocket. That really cuts down on impulse purchases since I can't easily reach my credit card!

The downside with this arrangement is that it doesn't work with evening wear (too slinky, the pocket shows) and as I got heavier, there wasn't enough give in the waist bands to reach things. If it is only used to in emergency, this is fine, but for everyday touring, it is less convenient.

When I think of pickpockets, I think of Rome. Everything was secured in my hidden travel pockets and my subway pass and a bit of cash was in my front pocket. Each time I got on the subway, I had a map in my blazer pocket. Each time I got off, my map was missing! Luckily, I learned to carry a second map in my purse for the trip home! (My purse had some cash, comb, tissues, etc. but nothing of value.)

I was probably picked in Prague; started out at the top of the escalator with my change purse in my hand (along with my map, gloves, a bag with a sweet roll and a drink) and when I got to the bottom of the escalator and went to put my map, gloves and change purse away in my backpack, the change purse was gone. I went back up, watching along the way, thinking I had lost it. But I hadn't and later on someone told me I was likely picked.

Those who are paying close attention will note I haven't posted any progress today. That's because there was none.

Although, this evening, I learned how to make a magic cross (or magic card.) It is a folding piece of paper that you keep opening up and it eventually comes back to the original formation. I plan on using it for the bible verse the kids will be doing this week (I'm teaching Sunday School.) I don't like the plan so have been rewriting everything, just using their basic structure and changing some of their activity sheets to serve my needs. Good thing I don't teach every week, this takes ages.

If I hadn't been able to come in here and debate a little I'd have gone crazy today, so thanks.

Progress? I've done a bunch of laundry, but after the main daily load, all of it was mini-loads. I keep coming across things in the baskets that have been waiting because they require washing alone or just a few things, and I guess I've been thinking the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

I worked on cards and also have finished a tentative Basic Weekly Plan. Ultimately, I just had to combine our two bathrooms after all, even though they really need more time than this. And I just threw Errand Day out - it will just have to get done piecemeal, or, as today, by asking HRH to stop by stores on his way. I put my ddad's bedroom on Sundays, but may be able to get little things done in there through the week when I can sneak and accomplish them. I dusted in there today.

I have made progress!
ALL papers are graded (for the time being, of course. This is a job that never STAYS done long!)

AND... * drum roll *

I have almost finished making order out of a HUGE mess of church notes. All my own... no one to blame but me. It appears that my thinking is correct -- over the past couple of years, our meeting frequency has dropped dramatically... which apparently made me VERY careless about keeping things in order. I mean, if you only meet twice a year and less than a dozen people show up... well... the secretary sorta gets the idea, "Who cares?" and the notes she took in the meeting just stay in the notebook and never get typed. Or if they are typed, they are not printed. And if they are printed, they are certainly not hole-punched and put in the correct order in the loose-leaf binder. * sheesh * I'll do better this year, I promise!

Wondering if it would be too "mother-in-law-ish" to tell ddil that if she announces the sex of the baby on FB before she tells us, dh is going to be VERY hurt. He sorta got his feelings hurt b/c she told about her new job on FB before she told us. (@ dh). I didn't think THAT was such a big deal... young people today apparently LIVE on FB anyway. But if she tells the sex of our grandchild to the world before she lets us (and her parents) know... hmmm... dh will definitely have his feelings hurt. And I admit -- that would bother me a lot more than the job announcement.
* I do NOT think it is necessary to have a big party to announce the sex of a baby. Some of our friends & relatives have been invited to those things lately... and it's cute, the way they make the announcement w/pink or blue cakes or something... but that is too Martha Stewart-y for any of us, LOL!

I'm doing great it has been two busy and crazy days culminating with head banging against the wall overr and over.

The council meeting was good today with all the prep. Some old people just don't get it. They are too set in their ways. I don't mean older people who may be 94 and get it. It is the others that are too crabby.
