Harriet, I sure hope things have calmed down at your house. I think you are doing a great job, because I don't know how many times you have mentioned how things went from fine to bad, in a short period of time. You always get things back on an even keel, with/without help from dd13 and HRH, depending on the situation and time of day.

I like the gecko because of his personality. He is so quiet and unflappable, yet easily bewildered. Another ins co has a commercial that asks if you would buy a policy because of an animal mascot. No, I wouldn't. Nevertheless, Geico's commercials have been memorable for many years. Cavemen, serious guy in the dark, woodchucks, man who trains guinea pigs, the money stack following people, the letters read by entertainers while the real person sits beside them, pothole that talks, cartoon characters, Abraham Lincoln can't be honest, people who live under rocks.

Carol Burnett is on Conan late night and HRH won't let me go to sleep until I watch her. He just loves her to pieces. See you tomorrow!

Well, I think the personality is what really won me over on the gecko, too, but you know, a lot of those British types seem to give off that "unflappable" vibe.
I would never buy insurance based on the commercial or the cute animal, either, but Geico really does have some great commercials. I hadn't even thought about all the others you mentioned, Harriet! They're all good.

Wow. I have wasted the ENTIRE night sitting here at this screen. I don't know what gets into me sometimes.

I like the Gecko commercials too; however, this year I had to cancel policy with them and get car ins. bundled with homeowners to be able to afford to carry this house. Also had to cancel with the company who uses Flo (girl with retro makeup and funny hair) because another was half the money. I guess it's not always about the commercials. Oh, I always thought the Gecko was Australian. I wonder if Lynlee agrees?

Ha, Lucylee, I've been coming back here every so often peeking in. I can only sew so long, then I must rest my fingers. Last rest I did dishes, and that felt good on my sore fingers. I'm keeping up, but it's a busy pace.

Tonight I sewed a stitch through the loop on a safety pin from the material around the rail. DH had to cut the pin apart, otherwise I'd have had to cut the thread and take out a bunch so I'd have enough to knot both ends.

re Geckos - I had go look it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gecko
1500 species world wide .... warmer regions. Though it mentioned one from NZ so maybe they just mean - not where the world sometimes turns to tundra during long winters. The Indonesian house gecko is most populous here. Wild life within my home.

re ins ads. we have one that specialises in funny ads. Like featuring the dog who doesn't come when called but is driving the jet ski in background of shot. More often raskley humans. In spite of the ad I have car ins with them. Auto club.

Our summer hasn't been as horribly hot as some years. 38C inside now. thats over 100f. Some sunshine today so washing can come in soon. Generally - storms can build in the afternoon. Depending.

The gecko probably IS Australian, Harmony. Lynlee (and others) will probably disagree, but the accents sound similar to me -- British & Australian. Anyway -- whatever the gecko's accent IS, I love to hear him talk!

I'm kinda disgusted w/myself. I kept trimming on my hair, not satisfied w/the way it was framing my face, wanted more "angle/taper" -- and yep -- I think I messed it up. Now it doesn't exactly "blend" w/the rest of my hair. * sheesh * Why can't I leave well enough alone??? I have it pulled back in a clip today. * sheesh *

If I listen to the vowels carefully, I can distinguish between an Australian and a British accent. Having lived in Australia for 1/2 a year helps, as does having British relatives. Now, I'm not sure I could distinguish those accents from a NZ accent or a S. African accent.
