Thursday's Thirst for Knowledge

Post by lucylee »

Maybe someone else will start a better theme... but I am on a thirst for knowledge -- or at least, RELIEF -- today.
As Lynlee said last night, this dog allergy problem definitely has to be discussed with the allergy doctor. Plus, it's that time of year that I usually need a shot to boost me up a little anyway... so I am going to "call the man" TODAY.

Otherwise, I should have a fairly mild day at school... no interruptions are planned for the day. It seems like this time of year, there is something crazy going on every single day, like yesterday's Powder Puff Football game. Sitting out to watch that didn't help my allergies, either. :P

What answers/solutions or just new knowledge might you find today?
Tomorrow is another day.

A great theme lucylee. One of my daily goals is to learn something new. I don't know what it will be today.

Indiana, if you knew what you were going to learn today, then you wouldn't really be learning it would you?!!!!

I'm up. I'm in relearning mode so I just relearned how to add a recording to an existing playlist. I'd be happier if I remember exactly what I did but I have no clue which set of keystrokes brought success.

I've added Adele's Rolling into the Deep to my workout playlist because it has a great beat to get me moving. Then I put a request on FB for someone to make me an honest woman for Mother's Day and buy me a legal copy (plus a copy of another song that I use too.) That's all I really need and easy for kids who can't get to see me to give me.

My meeting with the accountant is at 11. And I have a 7 p.m. church meeting. So my day is manageable (I'm prepared for both meetings.)

I learned there are no movies that I want to see this weekend and today is supposed to be the coolest day of the week so no need for the a/c here! Frost warnings are out but we did not get any yea! Granny duty today in a bit so I need to get moving. We did inside stuff yesterday and that was great timing. Dgd got off her schedule yesterday and woke up like at three thirty in the morning b/c of a late evening nap. So yesterday afternoon she napped at regular time hoping she's back on her regular sleep schedule now. The nice weather they played here Mon. and no one wanted to be inside for anything except the essentials!

I don't know what today will hold either, what I will be learning.

I'm just doing the usual stuff. Catching up with DH's paperwork for him. I sent off a fax 1st thing.

Last eve. was very busy. I worked on our church ministry off and on all evening...my friend has been too busy to get together with me so we divided up the names and are doing our half by ourselves and will do a telephone thing to finish...I guess whatever works, right?

Worked on a plan till the wee hours this morning. Government agency has finally approved our project, after almost 2 years of paperwork back and forth, and who knows what this means for the prices which have gone up considerably all this time...we might be doing this for free by now. ...sigh...the fax this AM was to get a price update from someone.

DH went off with long to-do list and he has work today so it should be quiet here...except wouldn't surprise me to get phone calls to come fetch or help or or or

Dee is traveling today, right?
Lucylee, I hope your allergies ease up, such an awful condition to deal with all the time.

Good Morning!

MMMmmmmhhhh! Love me some knowledge! Learning new things makes life exciting. :)

DSon/DDIL have 4 indoors dogs. Two of them are large (75+ lbs) and two of them are high energy/super rambunctious, two of them always seem to be sprawled out in the middle of the floor ....all of them always seem to be at the back door to go inside/out with anyone. DDIL takes excellent care of them. I don't know what I would do if I developed a dog allergy. ((((LucyLee)))) I wonder if this time of the year is worst for the dog allergy? Our great pyrenees mix puppy has started shedding like crazy. Last night I brushed him and almost filled up a WM plastic bag full of hair!

Next up.... update SHE cards

Funny that Kathryn mentions Adele this morning, since her songs have been the choices of several of dd13's classmates for these Social Studies videos. They're great, aren't they?

lucylee and Lynlee, thanks for saying dd did well. But what I really meant to share was the serendpity and astonishment that all she did was chronologically order her 30-or-so chosen images and text to get READY to work. Then she brought the Japanese orchestra's music "under" them and we watched for the first time, assuming she would have a LOT more work to do. The composer has pauses and crescendos in the music and it was  :? to watch the images just fit right in to what he seemed to be "saying". I've helped HRH do similar type media presentations, and he's done many more without me. Neither of us had EVER seen an instant fit like that - and on such heart-touching images! Should I warn the teacher? lol...but sorta serious.

Norma, you are on our minds - are you feeling well?

I'm thinking Norma and dh have a big day today!

bittersweet, I hope the bite is healing correctly.

Cowinkie, I hope the headache was not a lingering one.

Safe travels, Dee and dd.

lucylee, there are ways to keep a dog from being so allergenic, but they are mostly housekeeping/bathing issues. So, careful! :) Had my mother-in-law suggested more intense housecleaning to me at your ddil's age I would have gotten my feelings hurt! I do believe, though, that you could ask your ds how often HE is washing HIS dog. It's the first summertime since he's gotten the dog and now is the time to get the dog used to baths. There are hypoallergenic dog shampoos, but their point is that they keep the dog from being affected by perfumes or dyes in the shampoo. Still, that's good because you want the dog to be happy with the bath. Do they have a HEPA filter on their vacuum? My vacuum is the Bissell that advertises, "Made for homes with pets", but I think many would do as well. You'd have to think that other friends of theirs experience SOME allergy symptoms in the house, too. In the future, there will be play dates.

Oy, too much going on today for me. Issues at temple and Admin VP is out of town to bounce things off - he is to call secretary today to discuss issues: custodial help, roof and window/sheers issues. I need to handle pulpit officers for services and meeting dates for board, executive comm meetings, presidential appointments to board & Exec comm, and lots more on my l*st. This afternoon need to leave work at two to get dmom to dr appointment.

I volunteered to go to Sam's tomorrow for needed food supplies for the weekend if secretary will make me a list.

The president and vice president of the corporation that runs where I live will be here for a meeting this afternoon for all independent residents for 2 issues.

One of the issues is the termination of nursing assistance for nights, weekends, and holidays. In the information we received before moving in it stated that a nurse is available 24/7. We have a wellness nurse that is here during the work week. The other hours are covered by a nurse in one of the other sections.

Those nurses said that it pulls them away from their regular work. They said it was no longer available because of liability. The residents want the nurse reinstated. There was a petition for residents to sign.

The last time I went to ER the nurse kept saying she had to get back to work. Finally I said go back to work and she never said it again. She wanted me to do something and I didn't understand so I couldn't do it. I couldn't here her or see her. I knew she was saying something but not what she was saying. She would be able to keep me alive until the paramedics got here. Security just doesn't have the background to do that.

The second issue is our dining service. The food is now cooked to order which is better. It tastes fresher and is better because it hasn't dried out from sitting. The service has had draw backs too. The other night both were bad and the dining room was up in arms when it took 2 hours to get an order.

The meeting is going to be interesting.

My spell checker isn't working.

Good Morning and thanks for thinking of me. :D

I am doing well. No problems. I spent 6 hours at the surgery center with DH yesterday. That was tiring, but I didn't want to drop him and come home. He stayed overnight as there was an oxygen level issue and doc wanted him to stay and be monitored during the night. Just talked to him. He is soooo ready to come home. Will have my coffee and a shower and maybe he will have the word from the doctor. He did good.

We made our reservations for the 20th to go to San Jose to see the family. I can hardly wait to see ggd. Right now she is sick but will be over it when we get there. We haven't seen her since last September, but our DD keeps us updated everyday with a new picture and telling us what funny things (and there are plenty) she says.

There are 11 - I say 11 - new baby peregrines in the Bay Area this spring. That is one reason we are going to SJ when we are. It is fledge week and I am excited. There are 4 at City Hall and I am anxious to see them flying around and to have visiting face to face time with all my "Peregrine Fanatic Friends".

Great Day everyone! :D
