Good morning, villagers ~
I've been doing a lot of racing around the past 7 days. This morning I was trying to figure out where I need to be today, and realized --
I don't need to be anywhere but here!

Looks like my long post on Sunday morning didn't make it to the board. I no long remember what I typed ... of course it was totally thrilling, so I'm sorry y'all missed those words of wisdom. <snicker>

Last night's sewing group board meeting went really well. The rest of the year will have what I think are interesting programs. Now I just need to GMAT to clear space for sewing.

I have one more set of children's aprons (4 dozen) I want to do for charity, then a long list of additions to my own personal wardrobe. A friend gave me some fabrics to use for test patterns, which I'm eager to do. I just need to clear enough horizontal space to be able to have a cutting table set up permanently for a few months, which is a sticking point.

The good news is that the small spaces that I have been able to clear -- cupboard shelves, kitchen drawers, places here and there on the counter -- have stayed clear for several weeks. That's a feat of stubborn determination, let me tell you!

Ah well, break time is over. I've already answered a bunch of correspondence this morning, checked FB for photos of the great-nieces and -nephews, took care of some laundry & half of the dishes. Must finish the dishes and then pick a spot to declutter. Trash goes to the curb tonight and I want the bin to be full.

OKay, speech can be an issue w/o a related hearing problem, but you are wise to follow through to have hearing/speech evaluated. I had speech therapy at my elementary school for the first couple of years of school.

I am finding it impossible to get going today, but I must somehow. Tonight at 5:30 I have a temple board meeting to run, and I need to do some prep for that. Last week we did an OMM list of "goals" writing down everything with out evaluation. This month we need to move forward to refine that list, and I feel a little inadequate to lead the discussion. That may be why I am procrastinating so this morning.

I don't know what ds has decided to do about the trip. He was going to call the guy to try to get more info today but I hate it he sounds so unsure of himself and unappreciative.

Vent: I cannot believe how seemingly "stupid" the temple secretary can be. I need to somehow convey that she needs to do some thinking for herself before coming to me with a stupid question.

Like I said, I've done almost nothing today. I did get the recycling out to the street earlier, tho.

-clear kitchen counters and wipe down

OKay, DGSon was diagnosed at school with speech difficulties and assigned a speech therupist. He had a few months of that and declared cured. He had no hearing difficulties. It's funny, he always sounded a bit like he was talking with a mouthful of mashed potatoes in his mouth. But, you know, we love our kids and grandkids so much that we take extra time with them to understand what they're trying to convey and sometimes don't think on their end there could be a problem. I loved to read your reaction to this news. You are a great parent.

It's grey today. Sometime during the night we must have had more rain. It looks like we might get some more. As much as I want the rain, I hope it holds off. DH is outside working and they are on a roof which would get slippery. Alrightey, moving on from that disturbing thought....

Desk chores done. Copied off packet for new employee. Should have done that before, but as long as its done before first check is written..

Going to grocery, out of lunch fixins. Jeeze, I bought stuff on Sunday and I'm out already. I'll have to get more each time if I'm packing for 3. Oh, if only everybody would take responsibility for themselves. Why would hard-working people come to work with no fluids, foods, for a day of work? I just don't get it. DH doesn't worry about it, he just provides and keeps things moving. He always quotes the bible verse about "don't muzzle the oxen" or something like that.

Lucylee, our test schedule sounds similar to yours. We get several days of tests, one day is composition. Previous years they judged compositions as drafts, without taking off for grammar, spelling, punctuation. This year they took off for those things and overall percentages went way way down causing panic in our system. So, they decided to lower the standard so test scores (percentages) would look better. Their excuse: teachers and students were not given enough warning and teaching about the change in grading. What? Doesn't composition always have something to do with punctuation, spelling and grammar? I read online that a 4th grade composition was to be written on the subject: riding a camel. Okay, I can think of a lot that has to do with that...but they said some kids didn't even know a camel could be written and one wrote about a supermarket because camel meant cigarette to her! What are they teaching these days?

Good morning! Girls Night Out went ok, we ate at the Chinese restaurant. DD10 did not eat enought and wanted more when we got back to the house. She has been wanting to eat in front of the TV, I don't like that, so I made her eat at the restaurant. I did most things on my list: trash and recycles out, update Quicken, put away laundry. I did not consolidate my shopping list, in fact, I am not sure exactly where it is. I have been having unbelievable scheduling problems with Sears, to the point where I have cancelled my swamp cooler repair with them and am going with someone else. I won't bore you with the details, but suffice it to say there were egregious failures in customer service.

Mom brag coming up: We're very pleased with dd's grades, especially given that she had a rough semester with the roommate situation. She had three As, a B+ and C+. The C+ was in the 4 hour class that also had a lab...

Ds rec'd two Cs and two Bs - respectable considering he's in a very competitive engineering/academic environment. He did point out that the two Cs were in the two 4 hour classes so they pulled down his grade average more than the two Bs and two Cs the first semester, which kept the GPA balanced at 2.5.

DH, Dson 22 and Dson 16 are working on one of our vehicles. This would be vehicle #2 if you're following the saga of breakdowns.

Yesterday turned out to be a rest day for me. Every time I was on my feet my leg had such gripping pain that it was hard to walk. So caught up on some of my TV shows on DVR.

Doing better today, got the floors mopped and one bathroom cleaned.

this afternoon I'm going to do some computer work and then a nap before heading off to work.

Gee, dd13's experience (or my surprise at it) seems to resonate with many geographic places. Another element of Language Arts I'm surprised isn't tested is definitions. Why don't hyperbole, axioms, anthropomorphism, etc. have at least a question on these tests? Where is the vitally important question about run-on sentences - the world needs that, LOL! Dd said, "Oh, they never put that stuff on these tests." So, along with literature, we are leaving lots of other concepts behind to emphasize comprehension alone.

She was up a little late getting all the proofs of taking the quizzes in to her Science teacher. She was determined, because the teacher has linked this to an extra grade, as well as to a pizza party later. HRH was irritated. But dd says, hey, it enforced another look at the subject matter(s) at the last minute, so the teacher has a method to madness and may believe in "cramming" more than the "good night's sleep" theory. The teacher will certainly look good if her students do well on the EOG, and that's got to enter in to her thinking. If there's an assignment she can give during exam week that gets her students to review, say, pollution, or extinction, or compounds, when they wouldn't have normally, it may make the school look better, too. Hard to dispute the logic, even if it has a self-serving edge, since the state will look at only raw test scores.

We swept up seeds, dgd played with blocks meaning she dumped the bucket out and then lost interest in 'em! LOL! Watched the rest of a Disney movie. She worked on some abs'c not really decipherable yea.

Lunch is ahead of us.
Time to think about a walk.
