Saturday Doings

Post by Indiana »

What is everyone planning for today?

My groceries will be here in a few minutes and I'll put them away. The rest of the day will be puttering.

Today we are moving food to the MH. We defrosted the fridge and it is ready to be loaded.

I have some of those pink plastic tubs from the hospital to sort canned goods into. They will go under the couch in the MH for storage. I was able to pick them up at the thrift store for $1 each and they make really good storage bins. I use markers and tape to note on the ends what is in them. Green Veggies, Soup, Beans, etc.

I think I have all the clothes except what I have to wash next week in the MH. We are taking WAY less than we have taken in past years so we will see how that goes. It gets a bit hard when you are packing for 6 months. I need hot and cold clothes and of those I need Church clothes, knock around or travel clothes, work or we can get dirty clothes plus night clothes. I have a tote under the bed with sweat shirts and jackets, and in the closets I have the rest. Like I said - about 1/2 of what we have carried last year.

First off I need to get DH out of bed so we can go for our walk.

Today is my first day back at payroll - vacation is over *sigh*. I need to deal with the critters, wash my hair, and get myself out the door!

Good Morning!

We decided to come home late yesterday. Even though we were having a great time, we are such home bodies that we opt'd to make the drive home at the end of the day. DSon & DDIL begged us to not go, but the desire of being home was strong enough to make us resist their begging. :) I think it is a good thing to end a visit with the host wishing you would stay longer rather than them dancing for joy as you pulled out of their driveway.

This morning I have leisurely walked through the gardens noticing all the changes in just 48 hours. During this time of the year it is amazing how fast the plants & vegetables grow and reproduce. How fast the flowers go from bud to full bloom.

DH and LO are still sleeping. We have 2 more days of doing whatever we want. Although we try to release the MPB duties for a few days, it is always mentally there. We hadn't been gone 3 hours when a state inspector called us with a surprise inspection and laid out some requirement that he wanted implemented IMMEDIATELY. He didn't care that we were out of state for a couple of days. He wanted someone on site to receive his paperwork IMMEDIATELY. Yes, sir. Yes sir. 3 bags full. We arraigned for someone to met him IMMEDIATELY as he requested and he left happy. All is well that ends well.

It's going to be hot today & my ac is not in working order. Considerable clean-up, especially in the basement, needs to happen before the hvac person can be called.   Why do I allow myself to get in this predicament, you ask? Beats me, wish I knew......

Twins' Mom, I love your floor plan. It looks very "livable", for lack of a better word. I'm sure you will enjoy living there. Thanks for allowing us to vicariously share your journey.

OKay, I'm glad you had a good visit with your ds & family. Boo on the state inspector.

((Bittersweet)), it is sooo hard to go back to work after a vacation. Hope you had an enjoyable time.

MT, will you be gone for 6 months? That's almost like moving.

Good to "see" you, Indiana. How are you feeling?

My Saturday doings will probably include taking flowers to the cemetery for Memorial Day. This will be the first year my dmother does not want to go, so my dsis & I will carry on the family tradition/obligation. I can remember, as a small child, going with my grandparents. Now I go to their graves. Sorry to be melancholy. I need to get moving & break through the funk. :)

Hope everyone has a good day!

Yi, yi, yi, Okay! Don't you just love "authority"?
It gets a bit hard when you are packing for 6 months.
Ask me how I ALSO know this, MT! I have VOWED that next year we're NOT buying things to bring north. Our van was so full this year! Of course some of that was refundable bottles that we had taken south LAST fall, 3 big boxes of shirts for DS-A, Dh's tool boxes, a new deck heater. I thinned our paper stuff down a LOT -as evidenced by yesterday's frantic search for files. Had the ones I needed all the time plus some things of dh's.

Our deck is all painted (floor and rails) -special thanks to a dneighbor who came over and grabbed a paint brush. Didn't know dh had changed his name to Tom (Sawyer). DS-R came over this morning and helped dh move the new steps in place (he got them painted amidst tons of interruptions yesterday). Can't believe how many people stopped to ask him a ? or to do something for them and the PHONE CALLS! Glad my phone doesn't ring like that -that being said, there are lots of people I like to talk to.

Went through some coupons this morning, typed in a couple of recipes and cut the article about DZoe's Memorial Garden out of 3 papers.

Have to take a picture of the flowers dd's family sent me for my birthday -been waiting for them to open a little more. Nice bouquet -lots of buds to open yet. Just noticed that.

Have made the bed, meds done & breakfast, s2s, swept through. Think the deck is going to need more sweeping this year. Noticed with the light blue/gray color dirt is showing ever so much more than it did on the stain. But do like having the color much better.

Had a rack out in the yard and somehow it ended up in the side yard -full of sheets (used for covering) that somehow had gotten wet. Moved that and rehung the sheets this morning (behind the RV). Straightened the deck as much as I could. DH put one bench back on the narrow end -looks good there. I want to get a new grill and put it on our deck so it's positioned as we come down our steps. Supposed to have $200 in C a m p i n g W o r l d $$'s -for recommendations for the RV we have (they've sold 2 more in here). Going to use those $$'s for a new grill.

I've got to do dishes -haven't done them in 2 or 3 days. Trying to save them up and heat water less. Our electric bill was about $300 higher last year than years before and I'm trying to lessen that. Of course dh had it running quite a bit for the electric fireplace before I got here. We already had used 1300 kwh since last fall. That's a pretty sizeable chunk. DCampowner only charges the average of what the electric company charges him over the year. Last year it came to .159 cents a kwh. And then we did use a lot of AC last year. Hoping not to use it as much this year and we've calculated that if we close our bedroom door at night, we can use only 1 AC unit instead of both. Ya' think?

Time to get at those dishes. Then I'll clean out a cupboard so as not to Break the Chain.
Why do I allow myself to get in this predicament,
Just in case you haven't noticed (yet) we all do that, Kally, in some way or another. And you are so right, being gone 6 months IS like moving. Trying to decide what we'll need so as not to duplicate buying is a real doozy!
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Getting a rosemary plant in the ground one of my Sat. doings items.
Rake leaves that blew out of the tree yesterday and clean up in the carport from the wind.
Last evening I picked up the twigs in the front yard.
Doing more egg laying research it's fun and h. is more on board with the idea of turning the play- house in to a hen house eventually. We went to farm supply stores yesterday and a lumber place to price stuff for this. The 8'x8' chicken tractor was spendy he thought he wanted to build one got some ideas sketched out until he figured the price. Then the converting the play house seemed more like a good option. If we are still here!

Saw some baby chicks in 2 stores that was fun! Surprised to learn w-mart had some things for doing this! Feed waterers, feeders. Even horse bedding. Can you seem me asking some farmer for a couple of flakes of hay for hens?

I've decided on the breeds I want they even had two in stock at the one store. Last night saw a egg incubator for $10.oo to hatch your own. A neighbor used to have hens I'm going to see if she has any supplies light feeders etc. I can get used wash up first of course.

I need to get rolling here, lots to do today. I'm not sure what time dh wants to leave tomorrow, however, the SC coast, including HHI will have a tropical storm coming ashore probably early Monday a.m., so it sounds like our beach time will be limited this weekend no matter what time we get there.

The main thing I need to right now is to go to the post office to mail something certified, since they close here at noon. And how in the world did it get to be 11:15 already?

My morning:
-worked on graduation anouncements
-picked up dd16 from sleepover in neighboring village; figured out how to bring home baby bird she and dfriend found. I was not thrilled, but the mom at the sleepover home didn't want it either. Baby bird is in a box in the garage dying so it won't be an issue for long.
-went for jog with dh - and ds!

We need to leave in 3.5 hours for a graduation party. Before then, I need to
-purchase/find a graduation card
-go to groc. store
-make sure the house is ready for small group meeting here tonight

We'll go to the graduation party in neighboring village from about 4-5, come home, welcome small group here 5:30 - 9:00-ish.

That's my day.

I think I'm going to eat something first; it is after noon, I just jogged 3 miles, and I haven't eaten anything yet today.

Got certified mailing done at the post office and back home. Dh was having me scan and save some documentation that needs to be provided for our new mortgage; we need to go by my office later to use a bigger scanner for last year's tax return. I have a ScanSnap at home, I think it's the same scanner OKay uses but it jams up on larger files and is slow. We're also going to the house later.

I was going to start a load of laundry but ds claimed the washer so that will have to wait. I'm in pretty good shape on laundry anyway.
