Here's another happy birthday wish for Harriet!

Must chime in about the dish towel question. I only have one towel in kitchen and it gets changed every day. It is mostly used for drying hands as dishes are usually dry from dishwasher. If I have handled meats, then I use a paper towel to dry hands. When my children were growing up, all their handwashing was done in the bathroom, so they did not use kitchen towel. Interesting how every household runs differently!

-called 2 oboe vendors; one doesn't sell oboes anymore. The other didn't pick up so I left a message.
-started breadmaker
-printed out pages of paperwork for the field hockey summer program; filled out much of it - then decided to punt to tomorrow b/c there are other things I need to do
-made the peanut sauce
-am trying to thaw out the chicken. I should have taken it out of the freezer last night.

Dish towels: Um, compared to you all, we are an unorganized chaotic bunch. -- But a very happy and creative unorganized bunch, I might add!! I used to try to have a hand towel out and a dish towel; dh never took to that, so they were always mixed up. We have innumerable kitchen towels on the rack at any one time; I think either the towels reproduce on the rack or someone takes a new one out whenever they don't like any of the towels that are out. Whenever dh cooks, he empties the towel drawer. After all these years, I'm still not sure what he uses all those towels for. They seem to be a cooking necessity to him. --I think he uses some like hot mitts. All the towels on the rack get thrown in the wash at least once a week, and some random ones end up in the wash earlier.

Raw meat - I am particular with and all towels/cloths that may be involved in cleaning up the mess go immediately into the wash.

I'm meeting dh for a jog at 5:05, so I'm going to change my clothes, check on the chicken, and then head out the door. Friends S, R, and A will be here between 6:30 and 7:00 for Th. dinner crew.

re: dish towels yesterday H. pointed out that I needed to change those more often.

A gal called back that had the add in the paper young hens were eight dollars instead of ten & she had no turkeys, was going to be hatching out ducks next! And nearly done with chickens she did have some of the Easter eggers that lay bluish/green eggs on my "wish list". I told her I was not ready for 'em yet she said she had 'em most of the time & I quizzed her for info. I could glean and found out I could use milk jugs with a hole cut in them for feeders and waterers that will work for now. H. said I'd need a job to support my "hen habit" so I could buy their feed, get ch. wire etc.

Did granny duty and a bit of knitting on my next project. One I'm thinking I"ll undo and reknit in a baby blanket simply b/c I've changed my mind on what I want to do with this denim blue yarn.

Put my name in to help at the orchard near by here thinning & sorting cherries. Maybe I can get some free hen food!

We had crock pot sausage n veg. yesterday and repeat of that today I put mine in with eggs and liq. eggs with cheese for my lunch today. I was going to make chicken soup but ended up doing this instead.

Dgd helped me make ch. muffins the house smells great now.

I've moved some more iris the two toned purple ones that were done blooming, one more batch to do they are still in bloom lavander. We had some rain but it was so slight I watered the back yard. Thinking where I can plant more multiplier sets I found when cleaning a cupboard.

Lunch with friend accomplished. I took a long one because I am not getting paid right now. I am working on a resume to send with a proposal. Then I need to read up on some computer codes.

Dee: yes it was ds that I went walking with. We had a quick lunch, he loosened a plug on my kitchen drain (under the sink) and then it was time for me to rush to worship. He's working tonight on taking down a trade show booth.

I spent lots of time visiting at the seniors apartment. Helped clean up after worship and fellowship time, then sat chatting to whoever wanted company. A woman came in looking for someone to fix her oxygen regulator. I had no idea what to do but she knew and could, very slowly, talk me through the steps but didn't have the mobility to do the work herself. So she was very grateful and I was relieved I could help.

I then went out and did the banking and gassed up the car. Bought OJ and steak for dinner. Iron banquet tonight! And tomorrow and the next day.....

Got home and found an email from dh sent just 7 minutes earlier so pinged him on Skype and we had a brief voice chat. Today he was able to feel the tremors. One larger one had the whole class headed out the door and at dinner one came that stopped all conversation in the restaurant. He says everyone is on edge and the lady running the breakfast room hasn't slept in two days.

We are off the road and at our destination for the night. We had no troubles except for one tire that got hot. That is what is nice about having a monitor on all the tires. It was just one pound over and after we got off rough, black road - it went down right away to correct pressure. It is in triple digests in the low country - 82 here in Williams on I-40.

I am going to kick back now. Free WiFi so I might download some freebie Kindle books on their dime. We are not hooking up the TV as we are only staying one night.

Sigh.... I had a slow running kitchen drain.

Now I have a completely blocked kitchen drain. I must have pushed the blockage further along and compacted it.

This is an ongoing problem with the sink except the first time it happened was almost exactly 10 years ago. The second time, just 30 months ago. The issue is that the drain line from the kitchen to the wider pipe in the basement that leads to the septic system is over 30' with two 90 degree bends. Most plumbers have a 25' augur. So they end up pushing the blockage back and forth (you can get at it from two different sides - the basement or the kitchen) instead of breaking through.

At least I keep receipts so I know who has managed to clear it in the past. (The first company that came in is the one who spent the time pushing it back and forth.) They've been called and will be able to send someone tonight. There's no extra charge until 11 so I may as well get it taken care of today.

In the meantime, I have two dishpans, one in each sink, and a bucket to dump them into. At least the back door only 25 ' away so I can slosh the bucket out the door.

Cowinkie, that was a goose-bump-producing story you wrote. I am so happy for you that you got to DBaby in time.

Dee, I'm glad you got your printer working. Hate stuff like that.

Who dries dishes any more? I guess I do when the drainer gets too full, but not too often. I have a knack for stacking them waaaay up. So our towels are mostly for hand drying. I find them all over the kitchen because DH will not use one spot or hang them up. I change them every couple days. If I am going to dry something I just get out a fresh one from the drawer.

Busy busy day and I'm not running on all cylinders with all the fuss here yesterday. I'm stiff and tired. But I managed to get 1 1/2 hours work in at church, returns to HD, groceries (for dinner I must make tomorrow for someone, fruit tray stuff for funeral Saturday and tonight's dinner) and a trip up to county office to pu paperwork.

I kept trying to rest but the phone and DH kept interrupting. Several came by for checks. I had to make up a statement. Then dinner and dishes. Some prep for dinner tomorrow. I still need to make lunches for tomorrow. I'll go do that, then maybe I'm done for the day. I hope.

I'll weigh in on the dish towel/hand towel debate. We have three - 1 hand towel, 1 dish towel and 1 old dish towel which I use for wiping dry floor spills (after wiping with a damp cloth) and cleaning the mirror and window in my kitchen.

The plumber is on his way now.

I had a good dinner (steamed broccoli, boiled carrots, roasted sweet potatoes and a pepper steak) and have washed up the day's dishes. The kitchen is pretty clean right now (except for the notorious table.) The dishes are are washed but in the dishwasher and when the plumber is done, I'll open the door and pull out the racks and let them air dry. Didn't know when he was coming so wanted them out of the way and didn't want to dry them by hand!

Under the sink has been cleaned out so he has room to work.

I should practice my anthems now. Haven't done that yet today.
