Convening Strength Tuesday

Post by Harriet »

I hope we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship and good neighbourliness, examples of which I have been fortunate to see throughout my reign. - Queen Elizabeth II, from the Jubilee Message, June 5, 2012

Be reminded of the convening strength all around you today. The sum is greater than the parts when we think of our family and friends, and as we remember responsibility to all our neighbors.

Good morning, Harriet!

I'm up and on the treadmill. Still struggling to keep heart rate up. I think weights in my hands are the next step (speed and incline are at the top of what I can do without back or knee issues.) That will slow the typing!

Just reposting this tidbit from Harmony last night - didn't want anyone to miss it!
From the news the other day, caught my attention I just had to read: HOUSE FAIRY came into a house uninvited and cleaned up a little and left a bill. It was a woman who did house cleaning for a living, and she would just come in places and leave a bill. The homeowner said she sure didn't do much, a few dishes, etc. I wonder how many people she actually got to pay her before the police caught her and took her in?
It is kind of the reverse of a story we have heard before - home is broken into and police sympathize with homeowners because the thieves have trashed the place but the homeowner has to admit it was that messy before. That happened to my sister IRL. In actual fact, they were broken into but nothing was taken so something scared off the intruder.

I'm picky enough that I'll leave my doors locked because I'm not sure the house fairy would do things the way I'd like. I have enough trouble finding slotted spoons after house guests 'help.'

Good morning, villagers ~

Somehow I have managed to miss all of the coverage of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations. I'll need to go to her channel on YouTube sometime.

I see that ABC is showing part of the Concert for the Queen tonight, I will set up my recorder for it.

Sewing group meeting is tonight so most of today will be doing prep work for that -- washing a blouse, getting the files in order, washing and styling my hair, etc. I hope we have decent attendance tonight, since we are paying the speaker a rather hefty fee because several members requested that we have her come.

We thought we had a problem with our stabilizer jacks. Yesterday, DH said that one of the springs that pulls it up had come loose. But I just retracted them and they are all up and locked. Wish we had retracted them last night - I would have slept a lot better as I worried about them most of the night.

So we will be in the road in a little bit. We need to get gas, hook up the pickup and then head NE on Rt. 54 to Liberal, KS.

I hope it won't be too hot this afternoon as we have no electric hookup so we won't be able to run the AC. We have some fans that run off the batteries so I hope we will be able to keep cook that way. I also have some spray bottles with water to help cool us off.

MT, glad the stabilizer jacks are okay - but wouldn't you have rocked even more in the wind last night w/o them?

Yesterday I made a quick trip to see the cabinets in the new house - all are installed and look beautiful. Things are beginning to take shape now.

Have been up and lollygagging awhile. Need to sort out the day's priorities and get rolling. I did get a fair amount done yesterday so will try to continue the trend for today. I have no out of the house appts going today

-reboot laundry
-clear kitchen counters
-straighten family room
-clear kitchen table
-refill meds containers

I hope not, MT. Cool, maybe, but please don't "cook". Seriously, hope you have real Happy Trails today!

I needed that today, Harriet! Seems like life just keeps bombarding! I know how much THIS community means to me. It's almost IRL! Can't NOT come here and share and nurture (at least I hope I am).

Want to watch the concert tonight. Girl dd went to school with and sang with is part of that concert tonight. She has done so well for herself. (Renee Flemming). One of our small town's "claim to fame". Wishing I could figure out how to tape on our VHS! (We had cable removed).

I was helping dh with tank readings but he called away to fix a light in the main office. Meantime we have rain approaching again in a couple of hours I think.

I have searched and searched for the charger for dh's 2-way fire radio. I just can't imagine where it has disappeared to. There is only 420 sq feet in this park model so how far could it have gone? Even searched the car -twice! Driving me nuts! I've searched every cupboard and closet that I could think of. Dh had it charging on the kitchen counter earlier in May....now did I do something with it or did HE?

Fighting a migraine this morning and I think it's winning! At least I'm s2s, took meds, made the bed and did a bit of dusting (badly needed in the spot that I hit).

Think I may hear dh back -already!
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

LOL Dee - that is because I was thinking NOT cook and tried to type keep COOL. DUH!!! need to check the connection between brain and fingers sometimes.

We are at the station getting gas. Then we will drive back to the Elks lodge and hook up the pickup. It is easier to get in and out without the pickup on the back. We are doing pretty good on time this am and have a slow and easy 200 miles that we have traveled before.

What color are your cabinets, Twins?

You'll find that charger, Dee, in the last place you look.

I wish the house fairy would come here. In listening to a couple of the women on our committee, I deduced they have cleaning help. And one is totally retired. sigh...that will never be me, so I'll just plug along. Actually cleaning is not the biggest problem around here. Office and paper clutter is. A cleaning person wouldn't address that.

Not much going on today. I'm sort of half-expecting a call to take back a piece of rental equipment sometime today. So I'm getting a charge bill reconciled and paid in case I'm out to drop it off. Otherwise, a quiet day.

I'm enjoying seeing snippets of the Jubilee on TV. It's amazing how loyal the brits are all these years. I'm not sure Americans would be like that. We turn on our Presidents the moment they take office.

Nice quote! I very strongly believe in living in community. It can be hard at times, esp. for an introvert. As community gets tighter, I find myself bumping into other people's "stuff" and they find themselves bumping into my "stuff" - iykwim. But accepting and loving each other and helping each other constructively through tiffs and bumps makes my communities tighter - and so it is a cycle that results in stronger, truer communities. At least that has been my experience.

Awards night last night felt weird. It wasn't well attended; only kids that are doing well and getting awards went, and not even all of them did. It feels a bit like tooting your own horn or something. . . . Have to think about this. Dh is radical and thinks ds should throw away the program that lists all his awards. I admire dh for his striving to maintain humility, but I think the program might be a nice memento for ds -- and I'm not sure it is a "heart issue" for ds like it is for dh, if you're familiar with that sort of term. . .. . We will NOT have awards, medals, and trophies on display at his grad party. I definitely agree to that.

This is a day of running around for me.
