Saturday - Game ON!

Elly, you can rest assured no one in my family was at this gathering this morning! Oh. My. My ddad would be horrified. Well, not horrified, b/c they have been to similar parties I'm sure, but certainly not hosted by any of their fellow church members. And I don't think the ones they went to had such limited offerings in the beverage department!
But ddad is DEFINITELY a teetotaler, and sorta thinks that our church is MUCH more tolerant than theirs, which is probably one of his reasons he wishes I had not joined dh's church. But that's another story...

Having water alongside an alcoholic beverage is acceptable, I think, except for not offering both...."we have Mimosas here, and some nice refreshing cucumber water, please help yourself, dahlin'" A fruity tea punch would have been a nice accompaniment. Yes, I agree always an alternative!

Long, restful nap. Good sleep but still feel groggy (see earlier re: dramamine instead of ibuprofen ) Sipping an iced coffee now, in hopes of feeling less groggy.

I need to clean up the kitchen. Didn't do any clean up last night or this morning.....and no one else has. Ds specifically asked if we could grill burgers tonight so perhaps I'll enlist him to help. I actually think he was the one who turned on the dishwasher this morning?

Haven't gotten beyond lucylee's shower CUOPing, but have to stop and say, cultured-smultzered. They're trying to get above their raising, that's all. Or, possibly, below it. I mean, there you are admiring the little album of your precious child or grandchild's shower, and what are you going to say? "Oh, I'm so glad Jane got a good photograph of all the booze. I'd hate for our family to miss having a memento of that table."

Underage guests would be a concern. Also the legal liability of the host if an underage guest consumed alcoholic beverages.

But, in all truthfulness, it wasn't like that today -- I mean, I would not have even known the oj wasn't JUST oj if she hadn't said anything. The only problem today was that the cucumber water or whatever it was, was across the room from the oj & food... so it wasn't very noticeable, and like I said, THEY didn't take pains to call our attention to it.
Now, at the engagement party, yes, it took a while to realize that yes, some people were drinking bottled water, and oh yes, THERE the water is... * sigh *

Dmom says she blames the honoree to some extent. She says when the young couple is this age -- late 20s, probably early 30s -- she thinks THEY think this is expected among their set of friends and maybe they just think this is the way "sophisticated" people do. I repeat, I'm just glad I'm not really part of the social scene around here.

And of course, our young marrieds here would not expect such at their parties, IF they were ever to give a party, which is HIGHLY unlikely. Coca-colas in washtubs filled with ice would be their idea of the perfect beverage.

Hmmm... did not notice any teens present, (at either party) actually, and if they were there, they would probably have been with their parents.

Oh well.

Dinner @ 12 tomorrow, or rather, as soon after 12 as ddad can pull himself away from the church crowd, and w/dbro in attendance for the first time since Christmas... the restaurant is going to be packed... and dh is going to be sooo fit-to-be-tied.
However, ddad is having some problems w/nosebleeds. If this continues, our plan will change to bar-b-que @ dparents' house. I'm not saying I'm hoping for continued nosebleeds, but dh may be! After chemo treatment, ddad's platelets drop pretty drastically, and that causes the bleeding. Dmom said he was feeling pretty rough this afternoon, after having spent some time in town and probably pushing himself a little too much.

WTG w/your rehearsal dinner invitations, elly!!! How soon is the wedding?

Wedding is in 4 weeks--YIKES--I had better find a dress! Location will be in bride's home state. For rehearsal dinner, we are not providing any alcohol. Don't want that responsibility...there will be plenty of water, tea and coffee. Just realized I had better clarify if the tea is iced tea (which I assumed) or hot tea. Given the northern location, it may be hot tea.


DH and I just went out for an ice cream cone. He thinks I didn't do so well grocery shopping this week. Forgot bacon, grits, and ice cream! Can you tell we are originally from the south? GO WOLFPACK!!

Yep, if dh wants bacon & grits, you must be Southern. I must admit, I've never even tried grits, though. I'm too picky an eater. I just can't get past the appearance/texture of them. DH & DS like them.

I am sooo frustrated and sad about this situation mentioned in my question thread. I just made it worse by sharing too much w/dh. Now he's not only frustrated, he's just MAD. Y'all just say a prayer for us all to get through the next two or three weeks. Maybe I should head to J&C.

Well, in the beverage department, I tend to err in the direction of too many choices. If DH wants beer, he get it himself. Cooler, ice beer. I never do anything hard around here. Then there's the question of sugar or non-sugar, caffeine or non-caffeine. I have 2 coffeepots and will make regular and decaf, I usually make sweet and unsweet tea and I put out sugar and non-sugar sweeteners. I have friends who will only serve what their preference is and I find that awkward. At one house there are only diet drinks. Other friend will not do diet anything and does not provide. I try to be a better hostess and provide something for everyone and I make sure they know what's in the pitchers and coffeepots. Although....a little tiny mimosa sounds good (except that I'd need a nap soon after). Lucylee, you need to get into the habit of scoping everything out, finding the water yourself if it isn't offered. At least they provided it..

I didn't have my game on. I didn't do much except clean up the kitchen, wash bed linens and remake bed, putter around in the veg. garden and bring in peppers and broccoli. And I sewed a good bit. It was a nice Saturday.

Tomorrow after church we're going to SiLaw's for lasagna dinner. I am bringing some fruit that I must make pretty soon. While I am there I am going to check around and see if they've made any more duck calls.....

Nice dinner tonight for dh's Father's Day. Ds came by after work, picking up onion rings and the Sherlock Holmes movie along the way. I made chicken, salad, corn, and potatoes and did the clean up after.

The movie was enjoyable but awfully violent and intense in places. But at least it was one I could watch too (although my eyes were shut for many scenes.)

Off to bed now and then an early start in the morning. If I wake up to sunlight, I might lemon my hair again before church. I think it might be making a difference. Dh pushed me away this morning when I snuggled up against him because I smelled like salad dressing from the apple cider vinegar. My hair only smells when it is wet but I was sweaty in the night.

Certainly understand about "recuperating" from a social scene, Twins' Mom.

I took HRH out for Father's Day quite early. He decided on this morning since part of dd's present was to stay home and take care of things (first time) and he thought that would be her easiest time of day. He also had decided he wanted a big breakfast meal out, which was probably very honest of him, though not exactly what I had in mind. Shouldn't have headed toward a beside-the-Interstate IHOP, though. Navigating the oddities of traffic to get there was awful, parking lot full. Then, inside, a very long wait for a table. Overwhelmingly crowded and loud. Good grief. When we left, we were in the long line to pay to leave and found out we were in the wrong line, because we were paying in cash, and had to go to the other long line!!!

So, whether that was the Calendar Event that I had hoped for or not, I'm not so sure, but at least HRH and I were actually away from the house together. He was very sweet about it anyway. He opened the car door for me as we left and told me the company had been the best thing about the meal. So I think he sort of got the message that what I'd really wanted was something for US, not just a Dad's Day thing for a man's taste.

Dd13 did very well and was delighted with the to-go box we brought home.
