Harriet, that is such a good idea... but right now I don't even have the energy to go through them myself. I guess that's a tip off that (1) I should just burn them all and/or (2) they are not going to make very interesting reading for anyone else.lucylee, you could edit and condense them now into a different, smaller format and keep what you'd like to say, let go of what seems too trivial or bothersome.

Re: Friday Flinging
Settled in the hotel in Dartmouth. Great view of the Citadel, the ferry, out the harbour towards the sea and if I lean over the railing a tad in the other direction I can see the bridge. I'd pay $100 more a night to be in Halifax and have a view of this hotel. I'd much rather be here and have the view of the 'big' city (they are merged into one city now.)
We got in at 5:15 but went straight to my uncle's, visited with him and then off to dinner with him at Eastern Passage. I had a hankering for pan fried haddock. The restaurant still does that but has added German food to the menu so I subbed in German fried potatoes instead of regular potatoes. YUMMY!!!!
We dropped unc at home and then checked in here.
All day I've been ready for things 1 hour early. I ate lunch at 11:30 because I was starving, my stomach was growling badly at 5 and now I'm ready for bed even though it is just coming up on 8:30. Since I changed time zones last night, this would make sense EXCEPT I'M IN A TIME ZONE AHEAD, NOT BEHIND, MY REGULAR TIME ZONE!
I've eaten too much again today but 100% of it was very healthy (well maybe not the potatoes, but they were good!) I've had no fries, no junk food, no ice cream and no pastries/cookies and yet I'm completely out of points and used up almost all of the last of my flex-points for the week. The issue is that I'm used to exercising a lot. Had I been able to work out to the same degree as I usually do, I'd not find staying on program difficult. We did manage to walk about a mile today while at the lunch break, and a short run around the property at the Nova Scotia Welcome Centre but I'm dying for a good long walk.

Re: Friday Flinging
Woot!
Dh was reading my last post over my shoulder and changed into warm clothes (it is about 55 here) and we went for a great speed walk. The only problem is that we covered the distance in under 40 minutes but I did keep my heart rate up for almost all of it. I was wearing my heart rate monitor which is turning into gold because at first and a few times in the first 15 minutes, my rate would drop below what I thought it was so I had to make an effort to push it.
And another Woot!.... I've been using incline to work on my issue with hills but today is the first time I've tested my progress. Dartmouth is a city of hills, not quite as bad as San Fran but still impressive and the few that I hit, I did fine on. Before, I'd have to slow right down and still my chest would hurt and I'd be gasping for air at the top of even a short block if the incline was enough.
So all the time I'm spending on the treadmill is making progress both in weight and in endurance.

Waving from Saturday
I'm in commisserrrrrations with Lucylee - I was the one out of here if it were to turn into a reality something. I was planning to flee.
Prayers for your deliberations over journals too. I had a time of really writing thoughts. I need do something with those. There might be bits I want to edit into something else though. Still think of maybe doing a pen name book at some stage. Nothing to do with people I have met here. More wrankling with myself.
I'm glad dog owners are back home Nancy. Hoping they make some other arrangements to dog home alone if there is a next time.

Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

Re: Friday Flinging
That's me, Lyn... I have always dreamed of being a writer... well, at least since The Waltons first premiered... no, maybe before... maybe when I first read Harriet the Spy. I know I never will do that, but something in me thinks it would be ridiculous to throw out or burn up all these memories I've recorded, especially of ds's life.
OTOH... I really, REALLY must go through them and edit -- which will probably mean re-typing the "good parts."
And DECIDING what ARE the "good parts." I mean, would ds prefer that I destroy all mention of old girlfriends, in the event that these volumes are ever read by ddil?
I was just reading through a notebook of e-mails saved and bound in order, that I shared w/dbro & dfriend during all 4 years of ds's college experience. Lots of funny things, but lots of old girlfriend talk, too.
I also need to edit out a lot of venting when I was mad @ dh, I'm sure.
If I were ever to write a novel, though, I'm sure it would end up being waaay too autobiographical, and then I'd be too self-conscious to let anyone read it, also.
Plus, it occurs me to that most REALLY good novels have some great mystery to be solved or BIG EVENT to work around.
I mean, someone gets killed, or finds their biological parents, or takes on the Civil Rights era.
I have NOTHING to say in any of those kinds of situations. My novel would have to be some kind of love story, I guess... and then it would be embarrassing.
It would NOT be Fifty Shades of anything, though... I can promise y'all THAT!
ALSO... how am I going to get time to edit & destroy all the originals w/out dh becoming curious???
I think he would probably notice the big bonfire, you know.
I don't have a shredder, but I wouldn't want to add all that to our weekly garbage anyway.
* sheesh *
I don't really think dh OR ds have much curiosity. DDil, I don't know. She certainly can't stand a secret when she's the one that knows it, LOL... but OTOH, she is extremely bored by our constant conversations about people she doesn't know.
My current journals have always been right on my bathroom counter, (just plain 5x8 spiral notebooks) and if dh has ever looked in them, he has never said anything to me.
I'm just really edgy tonight... thinking about next week... changes brewing in my world... plus this quandary I've locked in on.

Re: Friday Flinging
We've done a store run
gotten our Rx's
drove by the car show n shine;
dgd kids were reasonably good with us;
food is unloaded and put away.
Now it's movie time they wanted
to see the rest of the tom & jerry
toons I had on video that they did
not get to see the end of.
Dgson's bed is made.
Glad I have tooth brushes the grand kids can keep here & PJ's as they did not bring over night stuff w/ them when they came.

Re: Friday Flinging
Well, Lucylee, I see where you are coming from. Just recently I said something here and someone in my life responded in a way that I thought they'd maybe been reading and responding to that. This person has been here using my computer and knows some stuff, but I never thought they were reading on a regular basis, but now I don't know. I don't have a lot of deep secrets in my life from close family members, but now I'm not so sure. One reason I haven't put pictures recently in the other thread. Oh, I guess only members can look at the pictures in any of the threads?
And last night I thought about my suggestion of using a forum post as a story format, and I thought, no that's way too close an association.
Lucy, your DH would probably be happy if you were editing your journals to mostly just facts and getting rid of other stuff.
I've tried numerous times to journal, and I will do that for a while. But when I go back and read, I usually think it all sounds dumb. I tend to write when I'm very annoyed or upset about stuff, and when I'm over it the writing seems over dramatic. I usually end up shredding. Shreddings don't take up much space in the garbage unless you have a trunk full of papers (ask me how I know!).
I understand about people wanting to be "private" with their lives. I guess that's the way I feel about my home. I don't mind occasionally having a few friends over, but this thing with the whole youth group coming is very hard for me. Some parents come, also there are usually 2 ministers here also.
And DH's recent scheme is to have a whole church bonfire (what is he thinking?) and I told him I absolutely refuse. County would have to come approve, and we have equipment stored outside and that's a no-no, and what if they don't approve and then are watching us all the time...and where would people park, and all of these people coming into the house traipsing all over. I'm just more upset than you can imagine. I feel like it's an invasion and I'm on display for a critique. Yikes! If he doesn't give up the idea I may have to leave town, then the house would be a mess and I would have to leave the church from mortification, and I'm serious about all that.
It was a quiet day here. Rainy / drizzly and cloudy, so I was content to sit and work on some things. I love a cloudy day once in a while.

Re: Friday Flinging
I really don't have ANY secrets, pretty much. As y'all can tell, I'm pretty much an open book to everyone I come in contact with.
I have been more open in my JOURNAL, however, than I have been with say, ddil, or dmil, dsisil, etc... and some IRL friends... and OF COURSE, ddad, etc...
And I'm more open HERE than I am with those people.
And that's b/c (1) I don't think they would approve of my baring all in an online forum & (2) sometimes my anxieties involve them.
But it's just embarrassing to have it ALL laid out there, you know. Just as you said, Harmony:

Re: Friday Flinging
(((Lucylee))), I'm worried that if you destroy your journals in haste you will regret it later. What about buying a small safe to lock them in? Even a large suitcase with a lock? Or just hide them in a box in an out of the way spot.
I've got years worth of journals hidden away in a box. Inside the box, right on top, I left a large note for whichever family member finds them after I die. It explains that these are personal & requests that they please destroy them without reading them.
If someone chooses to read anyway, that's on them. I won't be around to care
