DDr friend called a bit ago to tell us that the results from DH's biopsy came in to his computer. He's not even working today. He's quite a guy! At any rate biopsy shows that dh does have Barrett's Esophagus -which is a precusor to cancer of the esophagus. Not terribly surprising with how long he's had GERD & the fact that he's had cancer in that region of his body many years ago -treated but nonetheless been troublesome for him. Not sure what the gastro Dr. will do from here. Do know that it means he'll have to be checked much more frequently. He has a colonoscopy coming up in 2 weeks -know he had polyps removed 3 years ago so he's due! DH is anxious to get back to work. So we'll see after this next test. Dr. did put him on 2 omeprazole a day from here on instead of 1. He said that should keep the esophageal spasms from happening. He feels pretty strongly that was what his 'attacks' have been. However heart problems were often detected after 1 of these attacks and he has had a heart attack. Therein lies the crux -can't possibly tell if it's his heart or something else. :?

I'm making "mock" rosamarina salad for our b'day shindig today. BUT forgot I had to actually cook the pasta and get it cooled first. It's in the fridge now trying to do a quick cool-down. Making a double batch so hopefully there's enough left to take to potluck on Monday.

DD and I are taking gd13 to camp tomorrow as soon as I get home from church. A $1200 "respite". Plus what it costs for gas, supplies, etc.

It's raining -again. But oh we do need it!
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Nice to hear that rain may be coming our way. Things are awfully brown here.

Choir practice was 2:45 long. And I'm completely lost. There are 9 pieces to learn. We have music for all but one of them (that we are only singing the chorus but in parts.) The director, Steph, gave each person a cd that contains only their parts. I'm alto 2. So practicing at home is possible, plus there are three practices each week and every practice is open to everyone. In total, there will be about 55 people singing but at each practice only a subset will show up. Today there were about 20 people.

I met two people from the church I'm preaching at next week so got a couple of answers from them. Specifically, I choose the music so need to get cracking on that.

The church wasn't air conditioned so the practice was hot and stuffy. After, we stopped for iced lemonade, then dropped off our musician and continued on for groceries. I've got those put away and made myself a grilled cheese for lunch. Had a banana on the way home from the grocery store because by 1:45 I was getting hungry. As usual, after singing a long time, I wasn't hungry, even though I at breakfast at 8 and got out of practice at 12:15.

Dee, Case Western University (through Case Comprehensive Cancer Center) is nearing the end of a 2-year study on the effectiveness of Vitamin D on keeping patients who have Barrett's Esophagus free from cancer. It ends in August. There's a lot of info about it on the net, since it's funded by National Institutes of Health and American College of Gastroenterology. The name of the study is "Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on 15-Prostaglandin Dehydrogenase Expression in Barrett's Esophagus".

Quiet, slow day here... (in my case, that's a euphemism for LAZY, I think.) I am actually still in my bathrobe.

Dee -- I am glad you got a diagnosis, but sorry to hear you and dh now have this new concern to deal with. (((BIG HUGS))) & prayers. Hope all goes well and the meds help w/the spasms.
Sooo glad to see that dgd's camp date is in sight!!!

Hooray for Twins on closing!!!

So excited for bsweet & elly w/upcoming weddings in the family!

I need to change sheets... exercise... s2s... get on with the day before suppertime!
I think I'm going to walk away the pounds INDOORS today while watching Andy Griffith on TVLand. Isn't there a marathon of shows this weekend? It is just too hot to be trying to walk outdoors. 95 degrees but "feels like" 101 -- according to aol weather.
Tomorrow is another day.

My Plans seem to keep changing. I exercised Willis and was getting ready to go try out a zumba. Sweetie call out to the pool and asked if I could help him with the car. He needed to put/drop the transmition and engine into the car. The car is still in the frame stage. It takes a while and I asked him if we would have to take the engine out and put it back in somewhere down the line. The answer was yes...this may become my next new career ;)

We hit 100 degrees here today. A/C feels cool enough on 80.

I made good progress removing wallpaper. DH and I cut some limbs and ran them through the chipper/shredder. This place is starting to look like "we" live here and not the previous owners.

Will go out for supper as soon as the impending storms blow over.

Ok, I've picked hymns for my two services. For the second one, I have a definite choice for the "before sermon" hymn since the sermon I'm recycling refers to it. Aside from that I'm not really married to any of my choices. Choosing for the previous week is tough since the gospel lesson is the beheading of John the Baptist and there are no hymns for that! (Actually, it is a tough 'preach' as well since there is nothing really inspiring in the lesson - I have a sermon spark I hope turns into something, otherwise I'll have to abandon that and preach either the Hebrew lesson or the Epistle.)

That's all I've done. Since my backup hard drive is hooked up to my computer (in order to listen to some of the hymn suggestions since all of one of our hymnbooks is on my backup drive as mp3s) I'll back up the vacation photos.

Then, looking at the time, I should start dinner. I'm moving the counter-top oven outside and doing shake N bake, plus a salad and garlic bread.

I made good time in getting dd and Z to camp and getting home. I stopped off at new house where dh was unloading just after 2 p.m. and helped him unload some stuff. Came home and napped and the afternoon is gone! I was pretty tired from the long drive - a good part is on two lane roads where you have to be pretty alert.

Not sure what the evening holds here. Probably more packing.

Trying to get a restart....
-start a lol
-put away a large basket of clean laundry
-feed the poor suffering very vocal ddogs
-pack up nonessential stuff in powder room

Hoping that a change of scenery to another room will jump start the packing. Maybe an iced coffee too.

Dinner is done. Dh and I are cranky with each other partly due to the heat, partly having spent too much time together.

Stuff didn't get done on the 'house leaving' list and I'm upset because I need to know the list is getting done, the reason we have a list is so we won't forget something important. Nothing got hurt but the tv system was left plugged in while we were away. It is on a surge suppressor power bar so that protected against the power surges with the power outages (there were 21 minutes worth while we were gone plus two flickers today that reset the digital clock on the stove) but I'm always afraid of another lightening strike wiping out stuff. The first strike, everything was unplugged except internet and phones (I had been away for over a week so the house was shut down and was only home overnight then leaving again so hadn't plugged in tvs, just the phones and the internet) so we only lost the phones, router and anything plugged into those (like the shared printer and answering machine.) We were very lucky that time that everything was unplugged.

The second strike was to the phone lines outside the house and the surge wiped out just some phones. We still haven't replaced the phones from that time, so there are vast parts of the house with no handy phone (including the living room level of the house.) I hate to buy new ones because we seem to go through phones regularly.

While dinner was cooking, I got the indoor plants watered and returned to their usual spots in the house. I also pruned them a bit. All my African Violets need repotting.

I've backed up the photos so now I'm ripping the CD with my choral parts on it so I can put the pieces on my mp3 player to listen to daily. With nine pieces to learn, this is going to take me a lot of time.
