Re: Shazam Sunday
Our temp is climbing here too. Or, more specifically, the humidity level. The house was OK but not cold when we got up and feels airless now.
I've finished lunch. I wanted dh to take me out but I wanted lower calories and (slightly) more healthy food at home. We might have pizza tonight because dh claims we haven't had it in a while. He loves his junk food and not having to cook. He's ok with me cooking more often but I love his cooking so eating out becomes our fall back position when I'm tired and can't plan very well. We'll be eating out for 3 nights next week while we travel so part of me feels we should pass on pizza. On the other hand, he asked for it.
The car rental company is causing us problems (and not the same rental company as at Christmas.) The system is charging dh for mileage even though the counter person confirmed to dh that it was unlimited miles. This adds $200 to the $50 rental so is worth fighting over. So the rental hasn't been finished yet - dh is waiting for an email. He did get proof we returned the car at 8:40 this morning (under the 24 hours) so we are on the hook for only a one-day rental. Sigh... no wonder people have 2 cars, the rental agencies are so incompetent it is less stressful as well as way more convenient to own a second car.

Re: Shazam Sunday
Nancy -- glad to hear your review of Rock of Ages.... We have not seen it, mainly b/c dh just refuses to see it. He hates the whole rock music theme and it just doesn't appeal to him at all. He also refuses to see Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer b/c (1) it is such a stupid idea and (2) apparently, they make all the vampires Southerners. I don't want to see either of those either, although I would have picked R of A over Lincoln, LOL. We have also not seen Magic Mike, mainly b/c I would be embarrassed to tell people I had seen it! DH would be willing to take me to it, but I think he would look ridiculous going into a movie like that, also!
OTOH -- Batman was very good! Some surprises in it... some things that didn't quite match up w/older versions of the story, IMHO... but overall -- very good. It was almost 3 hours long, but I never really realized that while watching it, except that the teenage boy sitting in front of me was obviously getting restless and could not be still!
Ddil did respond to my message, all is well, bad cell phone signal as I suspected, and she says she is "ready to come home, tired of all the running around." That is sooo good to hear!
I'm so glad THIS is "home" to her now.
I am still very tired... just got up from my nap to check on you girls! I'm going back to the couch now.

Re: Shazam Sunday
That is excellent news. Dd still doesn't think of BC as her home, by her own choice and I think she is suffering because of her attitude. (It is also good news for you and shows you haven't smothered her too much with all your family!)lucylee wrote:... she says she is "ready to come home, tired of all the running around." I'm up from my nap too. Just ran the washer (hoping the capri bleaching is a success) and general tidying.
The lower main floor is tidied. Laundry is all put away (except the load on the go now.) Dh washed up the breakfast and lunch dishes. He was procrastinating (he has a big deadline for tonight, which is tomorrow in New Zealand.)

Re: Shazam Sunday
We are back from church pot luck was good. Forgot to do pet chores so will head out and do that in a while. My cookies disappeared and I got good reviews from them. Used the yellow cake mix was out of ch. chips so I chopped up 6 min. ch. bars. Next time I'll do a chocolate cake mix.
It's good to have some thing to bake for.
Drove around a bit and it was good to see homes in a diff. area but not far from us.
Lucy L. thanks for the input about movies.
It's supposed to be up to like 101* later in the week Thurs. I think it was that hubby said when watching the weather channel week long forecast.

Re: Shazam Sunday
DH & I both got to hold dgbaby before we left for church this morning. He had just awoke and was hungry so we were keeping him from the meal wagon.
He is just so sweet! Brings great joy to us. Nice service this morning. Stopped on our way home to see dZoe's Memorial Garden. Sadly all the plants on the back side look pretty done. Have to tell DS so maybe he can plant new ones. He put in plants -grasses mostly that need little care -it's just been too dry. And none of us really feel we can go over there during school time -logically so. But now that school is out we can go whenever.
DH is 'studying' for his test tomorrow.
He's working on the front of our deck in the meantime. He wants to put drainage pipe underneath and then wants to line it so it's easier upkeep.
Hairdresser who has a site here came to trim his hair (on our deck) and I ended up getting mine cut and our dneighbor & her son 13 came over and had theirs cut too. Just finished washing mine -couldn't stand it.

Re: Shazam Sunday
I've been trying to order the TV that ds is buying at A mazon and it won't accept our new address and both dh and I are frustrated. Tried to put in dh's office address for shipping but we want it billed to dh's credit card which has the new address as the card address and that's not working. I need a smilie for pulling out the hair.
We went out looking for a small console table for our entry hallway from the garage - has to be quite narrow and I'm still not sure something will work there. Our dfriend who was here last Sunday night suggested a narrow table there for us to drop our keys, etc. We also walked through Target and got a new dog collar and retractable leash at Petsmart and had Mexican for a late lunch/early dinner. Very large servings, we each brought home half of our meal in a box.
Dcleaning lady is supposed to be here tomorrow - with boxes and stuff still everywhere.
At least she can get up some of the dust and dog hair. It seems like it's been forever since my house looked good.

Re: Batman -- as far as the part that I said "didn't match up" -- DH did not have a problem with that. It was not a big deal at any rate, but if I tell y'all what it was, I might be giving away something. It was just sorta the "timeline" but not a big deal at all. I guess this is a fairly violent movie, also, but no more so than you'd probably expect from Batman.
(((Kathryn))) Thank you so much -- that is such a huge compliment b/c I know y'all have all tried to guide me so that I wouldn't be smothering... and maybe I have followed some of your advice:
I don't know what we're doing tonight... getting the Sunday evening chores done right now -- kitchen is s/s, plants watered, paper carrier check written...
I do dread getting back into school, b/c Sunday night is always such a frantic time... but I can do anything for 36 weeks, right?
(((Twins))) Hang in there... this will all be back to "normal" soon!!! I do sympathize w/the address woes... that can be sooo frustrating.

Not just my family, but just dh & I, I realize do have the tendency to be a bit overpowering, and I was really afraid that -- even unknowingly -- we'd overstepped somewhat during the pregnancy... so it was sooo wonderful to read that this morning!shows you haven't smothered her too much with all your family!)

Re: Shazam Sunday
Dd2 recently went to see "Magic Mike". A friend was in town from out of state and she met the the df, dfdm, dfdmil and dfdsisilaw at the movie. She said every seat was filled by the time it started. The dfdm started clapping when she seen a man come in with his wife. So everyone else clapped too. There ended up being 3 men come in with their spouse/gf and each time everyone clapped. She said it was a fun experience.
Well we found the homestead. Moms dcousins dh had said there was nothing there. We found a light pole and pulled over. Dm and her 2 sisters went into what is now a field and found the metal roof to the dugout. She made notes so we will have it for future reference.
About 20 of us are going for pizza and back here for cake and ice cream. Dd2, her dh, his friend and dgd16 boyfriend are moving her garage full of stuff to her shop this afternoon. I told her the 2 guys are invited also. She was going to see if she could get the boys, so we will see.
When we got to our house they decided to go take naps at their hotel.
Guess I better try to get dh headed to the shower.

Re: Shazam Sunday
Lilac, have fun at your "party". What fun, finding the homestead.
LOL Lucylee and Harriet for "paying for the friend to leave" comments. I got a kick out of that!
I am amazed about theater-goers. I don't think I would go myself. Twins, what sort of mask was he wearing? Yikes!
Yesterday was exhausting. I met DFriend at church and we went out to another community together and got instructions from daughter and then they left for the funeral. While they were gone we put the luncheon together. The food was really easy as she'd done it all, 3 casseroles ready to be baked, fruit and veggies cut up, cookies baked, 2 crockpots loaded up and cooking away.
We got all the food toted down to the clubhouse, which was just down the street. Clubhouse was a very nice room off their community pool and was not air conditioned. We turned on the 3 overhead fans and blew the hot air around...and I noticed as we left that the inside temp. seemed exactly the same as the outside. This funeral meal was not held at church because our electric company had us turned off for a bit...
So all we had to do was put everything out, load up the platters, put on the tablecloths, load up the sodas into the coolers, stuff like that, and several neighbors came in with other food.
But all the heat was a bit much. I did some shopping on the way home and it was 4:30 when we got home...and I was just done for the rest of the day. Napped on and off all evening and was glad to crawl into bed.
Today was church, and surprise of all surprise DH's brother and his son and girlfriend showed up...we watched to see if the ceiling would fall in...but it did not and we sat in the last row with DNephew...and have hopes that they will come back again.
I got the sweeper run here at the house and DH mowed the grass. We were planning to go to the beach but some sort of system rolled in and its been raining. I'm going off to heat up leftovers. Garbage is gathered for tomorrow...pretty nice day.

Re: Shazam Sunday
Got the laundry out on the line. The capris are still mottled. I'm going to leave them out there indefinitely in the hopes that I'll have fading success.
Finished tidying the upstairs level except I need to do the ironing.
Emptied out my junk email address in-boxes.
Dh has ordered dinner so I'll be fed soon. Good. I'm starving. He says the proposal is finished so that's why things were delayed. I've been hungry since 4:30 so haven't been able to concentrate although I did manage to wind the clocks. I also mended two pillow cases and my two duvets. Things had got to a tipping point and it was finally worth it to pull out the sewing machine. For one 3" seam, I'll ignore things but 2 plus 2 buttons missing made it worth my while.
I'm tidying a little bit in the kitchen - a piece of paper here, an out-of-place piece of stuff there. No amazing progress to report yet. But I figure I'm moving in the right direction. Perhaps I'll reach a tipping point with that and suddenly things will happen faster and the table will look less buried.
