Choosy Saturday

Are you choosy? Remember the, "Choosy mothers choose JIF!" commercials? The idea being that a mother would be careful of her choices for a child. In general, I don't think I am a choosy person exactly. But we all do need to remember that we can benefit our lives and better ourselves if we spend time with people we can honestly admire, and also those who love us unconditionally. When we choose places to enter, they can affect our well-being and mindset, so we should enter places that match our view of wholesomeness, are worthwhile, and uplifting.

So many things can be chosen - our attitude toward the day, the places we'll seek out, and certainly the people we'll choose to accompany.

I am always sure I am in good company when I choose to come to this site. If I were to become like all of you because I associate with you often, that would be fine.

Haven't cuop since we got home last night. DH and I left Thursday afternoon and went all the way to a nearby city. The weather forecast for Thursday afternoon was pretty bad and and we chose not to go on our touring jaunt. Good thing as there was severe weather and tornadoes in that part of the state. Tornadoes in NY are rare. I had $100 in gift cards for this particular hotel/indoor water park. Dh took advantage of the water slides and jacuzzi. As we got off the elevator on the 2nd floor I looked at the kids getting on, glanced at their mother and suddenly realized it was ddil's dsis and kids. Hung out with them in the park for a while, then her twin and daughter came in. I started sending pics to ddil who was greatly confused and thought she'd somehow messed up the numbers on her phone.

We even had a gift card for Ap Bees so went there for dinner. So it was a somewhat 'cheap date'. Friday we toured a good many miles in the southwest part of the state and visited some Amish shops (mostly in homes). Had to be back home by 6:30 as all the "kids" were getting together at DS-A's house for dinner. Had a nice time there and got to enjoy new grandson, but he was fairly fussy so didn't hold him long.

Our drought is over for now. We've had over an inch of rain in the last 3 days -not a lot but certainly enough that the crops and lawns are saying, "ahhhhhhh".

I'm being very slow this morning -so sleepy! Of course I did spend almost all day yesterday, driving. Almost a tank of gas by the time we got home last night.

Thanks Harriet great post for me I was wondering if class reunion was really what I would choose to do today if I had my way maybe not the best choice so I am glad H. has to work.
I choose to not devil the eggs and we will eat these just boiled.

I gave away a small bag of apples last night P.Y.O. [pick your own] to some folks up the street out on a walk. Makes me think of a doing that on the farm.
Deciding what I'll do with my morning.

Picking up footsteps in the MH today. We have been living at DD's during the day and just sleeping here so the "trailer ooze" has been very active. I also folded and put away a load of laundry from yesterday.

Their eyes are open now and I think they can start to hear us too. When mama Blaze gets in the puppy box they wake up quick and come a running.

DEE: Thought about you when I heard about the storms and hoped they had missed you. Glad you had a good time.

Time to go up to the house and take my shower. DH went up about an hour ago.

I'ts a quiet Saturday here. DH has been to torah study and borrowed a lawnmower and mowed the front yard - first time. I did point out to him that part of the job is also weed eating and blowing off the clippings and leaves, etc. so I'm not sure what his plans are re continuing to do the yard himself. He's disappeared - may be next door borrowing a weed eater and blower from neighbors.

I thought we were going to work on the garage some today and go to the mall to get the little table that we saw last week that will go in the hallway from the garage. This morning I went back to bed for awhile after walking dogs early and I went to a UPS store to drop off the shred, so that's gone!

I'm having trouble again with the sensitive area of my teeth, and I also haven't been wearing the night guard. Time to get the habit going again.

You're all definitely a good group to hang out with! When I became an actual member, all I could think of was the old Woody Allen quote about "I would not want to belong to any club that would have me as a member!"

Some excitement here today. Saw our first snake of the season. Opened the garage door and there he was. Shut the door and yelled for DH, who shooed him away from garage. Didn't want to kill him as we prefer a snake to mice! Snake was about 3 feet long and black with brownish diamond shapes on back. He went under some railroad tie steps that lead to back patio area. Have quit worrying about bears, so will just watch out for snakes, now!

DH and I then spent some time cutting back ivy along driveway. Called tree cutters yesterday, so going to start thinning out the woods. It's past time for that! Got all sweaty, so time to shower. Then this evening we are going to friend's house to watch a movie. Have heard about their home theater, so this should be fun!

DH is now cutting some smaller trees with chainsaw. Have warned him that we don't need a trip to urgent care today!

I've picked up apples again, noticed the lawn is getting awfully brown in the back yard. That happens this time of year. It's nearly August. I had part of an apple from our tree for lunch with my omelet.

Found a planter with fake plant I want at a yard sale but can't lift it so may have to pass on that. Got a shirt in Hawaiian blue moon print and vest. Have them laundered now.

Working on a knited head band hoping it turns out okay this may need some tweaking
but excited to use my brain for some thing like this.

DD just left -now I'll pick up her footprints -not bad really. But I just put all that stuff neatly away.

DH and dneighbor have been busy last couple of hours hanging lights for Christmas in July tonight. DD is 'bribing' the judges with berry cobbler made with G Ponds berries. Dcampowner asked dh to drive the tractor/wagon tonight -they make 2 sweeps of the campground and it could be pretty late before they're done. They don't start until about dark so they can see all the lights & displays. So much work for so little time. Now if we could leave them up for a week, it wouldn't be so bad, but I'm an old scrooge I guess for 1 DAY.

Have a graduation party tomorrow for Dniece's step daughter. DB & DSIL will be up from FL as well as dnephew & his w
ife (also Fl). DS-A, DDIL & family are planning to go. Hoping to be able to 'show off' dnewgs. He was "Mr. Cranky Pants" yesterday (ddil's words). But she never tired of trying to soothe him, nor did other DDIL or DD. Hoping DGS12 will be with DS tomorrow so he can go. It's been ages since any of my family has seen them.

I've been puttering away at our 'home' all day -rearranging and re-doing. Looks pretty nice now if I do say so. (been giving my 'inner' maid orders all day and she's been doing very well! ) It almost feels like someone else is actually doing the work. I'm all for that.

Such a quiet day in the village. DH and I moved boxes around in the garage today - never got to the mall but did locate some boxes that could be moved inside or upstairs. I nearly have dining room unpacked, too.

Tonight we're going to a cookout related to a club that dh is in. Ds will go as well as it's a family cookout and it's at his boss' house.

Builder is putting up a "spec" house across the street from us - the houses on that row are all cottage style with rear garages and the house front facing us. They started framing on it today.

Lesson learned - it's all fun and games with the marvelous battery-operated bubble blower until Mom (dd32) gets her hair caught in it. Ds27 brought a fun outdoor toy as usual, but when little britches got his hands on it he held it straight out to his Mommy, of course. Oops. About a half-pencil's-width of her hair wound around the propeller up to her ear. Dsonil had to take her into the master bathroom where it was quiet and well-lit and extricate her.

I have lifted all the boys at different times and have not hurt my back! Yay. Got them all up on a chest for a group photo of all 4, too.

My salmon and coleslaw last night was delish.

Dsonil took us out to Chilis today, which was very nice, but expensive, I felt.

We're in the middle of hide-and-go-seek here. Gotta go.
