I think I've decided I do not like the TV show Mad Men. It seems so dark and dramatic. ~sigh~ One of my fav. characters on it Peggy has left the show. Plus all the stereo types from the 60's. But I do enjoy the commercials and styles from that era that I grew up with.

This time of year I get headaches from so much sun I think. [Corn tasseling out bothers me also.]

We have a baby crook neck squash and pumpkin so happy to see those!
H. got the apples in the trash yesterday.
I need to dump the rest of the trash in the house before the truck comes tomorrow.

I'm having coffee bed needs made... journaling & walk or ex. bike & breakfast, unload dishes need done. I forgot to pick up an Rx and I've been to the store twice sigh one time the Rx part was not open yet however.

Hubby is working today.
Crows were calling and circling over head while the coffee was brewing.

We have not had deer in the back yard one good thing about dogs on either side of us this summer. [63-93*] today's temps. {H. has not decided if we will let go of internet or not yet

I've refilled the vitamin containers for the next two weeks and moved my costco list onto my palm pilot so I'll have the list of vitamins I need when I go tomorrow.

After having trouble with things expiring, we've started to only buy the next bottle for the pantry when the last in the pantry has been opened (bottles are stored in the basement pantry until opened, then they are on the top shelf in the kitchen.) Since each bottle has enough for 3 months or more, that gives me three months to restock the pantry. I have decided to ignore sales but if one comes along for an item on my list I might buy more than one bottle. I don't get to Costco all that often so it isn't really worth it to time things. Miscalculating means I'd have to buy locally (expensive) or have some wasted due to expiry (expensive and wasteful.) So I'm living life with 'enough.' Actually that is my new mantra.

I'm moving too slowly today but it is the fastest I can move. I think I'll switch to 15's (15 on 15 off.) If I don't feel better, I'll go to 15 on 30 off.)

I worked upstairs for quite a while. Ds had just stacked stuff into dd's room willy-nilly and one couldn't even get to her bed. I moved craft stuff and bonus room stuff and some of the "collectibles" that we can't turn loose of and restacked what does belong in her room. Dcleaning lady is making her bed so that will be ready for her homecoming this week. I straightened bonus room and bathroom and unloaded towes into the upstairs linen closet. We have way too many towels so I've culled out the tatty ones for the animal shelter. I also rebooted the laundry.

National cheesecake day... hmmm... how can I celebrate...
Nah, just kidding... I'm not going to go seeking out cheesecake today. Too many other things to do. But thanks for the info, Indiana!

I don't see EXERCISE on that list... * sigh * Don't know where I'll fit it in... or IF I'll fit it in. This is so discouraging.

It may be good that I'm going to the allergy doctor. I'm only supposed to get my shot -- not actually see the doctor -- but I'm still building up my dosage to "maintenance" so that I can start giving my own shots again. Nurse said if I came today I could probably be on maintenance when school starts, but if I skipped this entire week, probably not.
Anyway, my teeth are hurting, and one of my ears, a little bit. I figure it is sinus-related b/c I have a really stuffy, runny nose, too.

I am sorta embarrassed to admit I have never seen Mad Men. I know I'd like it, b/c as Nancy said, I love seeing the styles, etc. from the 60s. I just find myself drifting around, and end up on the couch w/dh while he watches baseball. I don't really have any tv show I watch right now.

Good to see Kathryn's thoughts re: The Help. Yes... we Southern housewives are extremely intelligent.

The thing that bothered dh so much was the relationships between the whites and long-time family help. Although my family has never had "help," dh's mom has always had someone who cleaned for her, etc. At the end of the movie, dh was just appalled at the way Skeeter's mom acted towards the lady who had been helping them. DH said he could not even imagine his mother, or anyone he knew, treating someone who had been in their employment so long like that. Dmil has a very good relationship w/the lady who works for her, and yes, she has been known to loan her some money from time to time -- and has never failed to be repaid promptly. I'm not saying dmil has no racism about her -- but I think like your father, Kathryn, dmil judges people as individuals, and based on their character and interactions with her. This particular lady is almost like family to all of us.

Elly -- the problem w/ thank you notes here is that ddil does not want to write them to people here in our town w/out ds's help -- b/c she doesn't really know a lot of the people she is writing to. I can understand that totally, although if it were me, I'd probably just go ahead and write some generic something and be done with it. DS's problem is that he is just a MAJOR procrastinator, and -- not to say "I told you so" -- but yes, things HAVE gotten more hectic around there since dgs arrived.
I just don't know... I hope people don't judge THEM too harshly. Maybe they'll get them written before dgs starts kindergarten...

It is marvelous that I feel better than I did yesterday. It is not marvelous that I am only about half-way to 100% feeling good. Well, I am getting there.

We have 4 nice big tumblers and DH uses one shaped like a great big coffee mug. None of them have tops though. I'd read that water bottles like you buy in supermarket have expiration dates on them not because the water goes bad, but the plastic starts to degrade and isn't healthy. I'll bet heat excellerates that. I'm going to keep in mind the glass one, which would be better.

I am working on closing out the month. I've done all the payroll work and submitted taxes. I've renewed a license online. I have laundry ready to hang up. And I need a small break. BBL

Have to edit to say to Lucylee: we were to a wedding in March. No thank you card yet. See, it's not just your ddil!

Good morning!

I am not even sure when I last posted but I think it was last Monday. The visit from dm and her sisters went great. Dm took all of us to I HOP before they left at noon on Wednesday. That afternoon I picked up some groceries and acclimated myself to being on my own again. Thursday I had to mow and then ran a few errands. Friday I bought groceries. I was just wore out after they left and we didn't do anything except eat out, talk and play games. Saturday dd2, the 4 younger kids, dd1 and I went to the zoo early before it warmed up. That afternoon my lower back was hurting so I laid down on my bed with a heating pad and started a book. I finished it yesterday. It was only the 3rd book that I have read since the move. When dd2 gets her business opened, I am hoping for more spare time to read. Dh thinks I am dreaming.

I have mowed this morning, so I need to hop in the shower. Just talked to dd2 and dgd15+months needs to go to the dr. this afternoon because she is running a low grade fever and is fussy. Dd2 thinks it might be an ear infection. Anyway I will go out and watch the other 3. So better get with it.

Nancy--Speaking of styles from the 60's...I've been watching "Hazel" reruns on "Antenna TV". The first few seasons were late 50's. I love to see the home decor and kitchen appliance colors. DMIL has a dining room set almost exactly like the one on the show. Lots of aprons on there, too!

Lucylee: The problem Skeeter's mom faced was being put between a social rock and a hard place. In her heart she loved and cherished her maid but in that particular moment her personal life was coming up against her social life. Having received an award that she had coveted for ages and about to disappoint those that gave her the award, she caved.

This situation isn't all that unusual - parents failing to make a children's event because the big boss was in town and wanted their attention; putting off visiting aged family members in order to spend more time at the club socializing, etc. It is just that usually, the choice isn't made as publicly and often there is time to make amends. The maid died before Skeeter's brother could go and bring her back for her retirement with the family.

When, at the end of the movie, a character commented the mom was getting stronger, it made me wonder if the guilt of that action (throwing out her maid) was feeding her cancer and, after reading the book, she realized fully how unspeakably wrong the white's attitude towards the blacks was, she chose to free herself from that behaviour, starting with throwing Hilly off the property. That cleansing of her attitude freed her body to fight the cancer.
