OKay, why did you change your mind about LO and public school, if you don't mind us asking? My kids were public school all the way but we didn't ever have to ride long distances on the bus.

Harmony, most of my clothes except for some sweaters are in my dresser or hang. My purses are on shelves. Dh uses a chest of drawers, but then had several additional shelves of sweaters, jeans, and other assorted stuff he can't get rid of. In our old house, he had two decent sized drawers in his vanity that he used for underwear and work out clothes. I'd venture to guess he has more clothes than I do, at least in part because he's worn a larger range of sizes and has trouble letting go of things.

Tomorrow a.m. I have a dr appt with my dmom.

I would probably be fascinated being able to use a typewriter too. I remember how much I loved learning and using a typewriter. *** flooded with warm fuzzy feelings***

A friend recently added an retro phone headsetto her smartphone and is loving it. I think some of the old things/ways need to make a reappearance. New technology is wonderful, but it could co-exist with the old try & true too....can't it?

We are one of the rare homes to be able to choose between 2 public schools (our land is located on the dividing line of two school districts). We are putting LO into the smaller of the two public schools which means he won't have to do that long bus ride. This is the same public school where our children attended and I know there are good teachers/people there. However, this is also the public school where DNephew was bullied & horribly physically abused (went to court last year and they settled before it went to trial). I know the school has made HUGE changes to make sure this abusive type behavior is never permitted again. There are good and bad to every schooling option. It's not hard to guess how over protective I will be with any public schooling event/activity.

Kathryn - that is the main reason we changed our decision on LO schooling. It is hard to predict how much weight each of the factors considered by the judge/court will play in their final decision. We know some people are biased against private and/or home schooling and are comfortable with attending "normal" public school system. We are trying to eliminate this from being a possible negative factor in the decision. If LO is removed from us, I suspect he will attend public school.

Another factor in reversing our schooling decision is getting LO into speech therapy. I am still not understanding WHY this is soooo hard to do outside of the "normal" public school system. We ran into a brick wall getting it done though. Enroll him into public school and he is instantly given access to speech pathologist .... guaranteed by law.....and provided free as part of his schooling. However, when we started making arraignments to take LO for private speech therapy.....we were told it would be SIX to EIGHT MONTH wait to get an appointment! We went to LO doctor trying to find an alternative and was in process of a weird back-door attempt to get him speech therapy without waiting until next year. BTW - this has nothing to do with insurance or paying.....it is all about getting access to people who give speech therapy. Apparently they are all over booked and because laws say public school will provide it, they get all the available slots. I'm not convinced I couldn't have found a way around this, but enrolling LO into the "system" gives him access to speech therapy immediately.

I survived camping. The people who were bringing me a tent to borrow were very late, so I stayed in XDH's (was our) camper. I stayed on DD10's side. I did not pack enough ice, had to throw all perishables that I brought away. I got back in time to get DCat18 from boarding and to do some cooking for this week's lunches.

Still need to do:
Put away the last of the camping stuff
Put away stuff cleaned out of car
Put away suitcases and their contents remaining from the cruise
Put away laundry
Clean up stuffed animals in DD's room

New things i need to do:
Pay bills (essential!)
Balance checkbook
Deposit check

I am getting another temporary cat. A friend in another state's father died, leaving a cat. I am going to keep it for her until she can come back and get it.

Drought trickle down news......Not only are we under a month long burn ban on the county level, but I just saw where the governor declared us in a state of emergency. I wonder if that opens up some money so the government can now buy the volunteers fire fighters some Gatorade? The volunteer fire depts have been asking for people to donate gatorade to the firemen so they don't have to buy their own while fighting fires.

We got the new forecast for August above normal temperatures and below normal precipitation.

They expect it to continue through September and October.

OKay Thanks for the explanation. You are right about a bias against home schooling so from a custody point of view that is a good idea. And since he'll be in the closer school, he is probably safer. (The long bus ride was scaring me since it would be a long time between his mom plucking him off the bus and you finding him not on the bus.)

Dinner is done. Dh and I watched Johnny English Reborn tonight. Headache, which had got down to a manageable ache is back. My tummy is upset all the time too and I'm drinking a lot of milk in order to have something in my stomach when I take the advil.

Dh and I still have to come up with a set-list for Thursday. That's an hour of singing to seniors so we'll need 15 songs. Dh is going through the music now trying to see what he knows. We have 3 of these over the next two weeks but can reuse the set list since it is three different communities of seniors.

Mad Men show - I watched an interview with a man who had worked in the firm about which the show is supposed to be partially based. He said the show was nothing like reality back then. He said they basically worked hard and went home to their families like everybody else, and that he was surprised by the show's shocking story lines.

Indiana, mine is the "travel lid" and I didn't even know they made a "straw lid" and sold straws until I linked to the site yesterday.

Headaches - HRH has had a sort of continuous nagging headache for several days, too.

Johnny English movie - did you like it? Dd13 thinks Rowan Atkinson is brilliant.

Had a Subway salad today for the first time - tuna. It was pretty good. With the tuna I didn't think I needed any dressing. It ended up being satisfying enough that I was comfortable with a low calorie day, avoiding the bread, too.

In honor of National Cheesecake Day, HRH, dd and I shared one serving. I had about one bite. Got an email from Prevention today about their "Flat-Belly" recipes. Glanced at some of the recipes online and the Flat-Belly Chocolate-Raspberry Cheesecake is calling to me. But I would probably just make it in a larger prepared graham cracker crust and call it done. Will put that on the someday list - it may be anniversary dessert material.

Early bedtime - we are getting ready for the change when the school year cramps our style!

I am posting this from home, usually I post from payroll. I have put away camping stuff, washed and dried some laundry, but not put it away. I have also paid bills, mailed off a check to deposit it, balanced the checkbook, and put together tomorrow's lunch. Other things on my list are put away things from the car cleanout, finish unpacking and put away suitcases, put away stuffed animals in DD10's room, and find the eraser I use in my DayRunner. Right now, I have Draino working in the bathtub so I can take a shower. One day, I don't know when, I need to get the trip pictures off my camera, onto the computer with appropriate notes. That is not happening tonight. I am off to run hot water down the drain!
