Wishful Wednesday

I am wishing for a better day then Tuesday. 7.2 was put to bed right after dinner, her whining just got worse, which indicated she was tired, 8 ended up with a sore bottom, telling me to be quiet will not be tolerated,and 7.1 is just miserable.
I did thourghly enjoy my pizza,and glass of wine. It is closing in on 12:40am my towels can go in the dryer,and 7.1 is sleeping soundly finally..will be back in a few hours.

Wishful today that Harmony will find a diagnosis and good answers on her visit to the Dr. today.

Wishful also that we would see a good turn for Indiana.

I've been awake since 5a.m. and up since 6 -but I've only made it to the recliner. Dh should be arriving any minute with dgs7.

Wishful today too that Bernice's 7.1 will soon be herself and that this won't spread to others in your household.

DGS is going with a friend to her parent's farm nearby today, then going to look at some restored tractors. He'll like that! We're supposed to go to Vidler's in East Aurora on Friday. But last night DDIL said that other DS-A/ddil & family are going camping Friday so may not be able to keep dgs. Would take him with us but we're carpooling with other adults (only) from here. So those plans may bite the dust. Dneighbor will not be happy, but them's the breaks.

Figure I'll go do a very large load of colored laundry after dgs leaves later this morning.

Today is bathroom focus (I think) and I want to tear apart the upper part of our 'washer' closet and reorganize that. It's been bugging me.

Bernice: I understand that cheekiness like that can't be tolerated. My reaction would be to offer the child isolated 'quiet' in their room until they felt they could be part of a family once more.

I'll tell you the children across the street are driving me insane. Being outside this summer when they are outside is unpleasant. They have a pool so they are in their backyard which, because of the corner, is across from my house. If they were my kids, I'd use the pool to waterboard them until they behaved. Seriously, they whine constantly and LOUDLY. The kids are about 4 and 7 now and they never stop whining for things. If they are up, they whine to come down. If they are in the pool, they whine to come out. Once they are out of the pool, they whine to come in. If one is happy, the other doesn't stop until the happy one is unhappy. They are THIRSTY, HUNGRY, HOT, COLD or what ever else they can think to complain about. Ungrateful children who seem to thrive on being miserable and making everyone else around them miserable - at least when they are with their mother. Don't know if they are as bad with their grandmother (who lives around the corner and provides daycare) or their Dad (the parents are divorced) but I could not live with children or grandchildren like that.

Contrast that with the 4 boys who live at the end of the street. They were out on their bikes the other day and the lead (and eldest) pulled over to the side, stopped and called back to his brothers to do the same because there was a car coming. They fight (the bus stop is on our property so I see them daily) but they also watch out for each other, play fairly well with each other and are a strong family unit.

There's a pool behind our house too and the kid noises from that last week were absolutely charming. Lots of happy laughter and calls of "Grandma watch, Gramma WATCH!!!" and then we'd hear a big splash.

It is possible to raise good families but it takes effort.

I'm up. I've s2s but hair is still wet. Focused was on toe nails this morning. Got the polish off last week but they were looking pretty bad so today I trimmed, worked on the cuticles and assessed their condition (poor.) Apparently the nail polish was holding a torn big-toe nail on so that has has been cut back. I've had polish on almost uninterrupted since February. We are almost done sandal weather (just 2 - 3 more weeks) so I might break down and put on clear polish but I'll let them breathe for as long as I can stand it.

I need to trim my finger nails as well. I'm not used to doing that, they normally break off but they have been long all spring and summer.

I'm up made cofee the night went better soon after I posted.
H. brought dinner home for us last night & we ate together he apologised and then I was instantly better.

I was able to complete two puppets yesterday and started another one so progress is being made again on the puppet project.

It was not light enough to pick up apples when I woke up.

New pastor has arrived w/ his wife; the church helped them get moved in and then they are going on a cruise for a week and will be good to go here after Labor day.

Dgd had a fever the other day today her lips were cracked so we focused on water she had salty nuts not a good idea poor thing was whiny before her 3 hr. nap then refreshed and good to go when her mom picked her up.

Smiling because I don't believe I've ever heard Kathryn mention the neighborhood children, unless it might have been that family of bicycling boys. Today I can tell she has an opinion.

Much on my mind, but the household marches on.

Today is a busy day in the Harriet household. I neglected to tell that I went out to the appliance store Mon and chose a new dishwasher. My hand wants to close tight on this money, as you can imagine (I'm slightly stingy), but I have considered the purchase a long time and this is the right decision. So installation takes place today, and I expect a call this morning to schedule.

At the same time I am awaiting the fellow whose son will do the work on my car. Son/younger has become such a popular mechanic in small town, with such an inadequate parking area, that he makes appts for your car and then his father comes to get it when he's ready for it, like a valet......? (A plan that several of our friends, including dcousin, say works out very well, so we'll see. HRH is interested to see, because local Good-Year place has had a turnover of personnel.) So one of my main concerns will be making sure these operations stay separate in our driveway with enough room for everyone's traffic pattern.

Harriet: my new dishwasher arrived when my back was out and I still consider it a godsend. I knew exactly what I wanted, and got it. I've been giving thanks for the dishwasher these past few weeks, first because I wanted dishes I had put in my mouth well cleaned in case I was contagious and now because it takes less energy for me to load the dishwasher than to wash the dishes by hand so I'm able to keep up with the dishes with little help from dh.

Surprisingly, I don't use the #1 feature I bought it for, the ability to do a half load only on the top shelf. At the time, this was important because I couldn't bend over to empty the bottom shelf. Now my favourite features are the delayed start and the quietness of the dishwasher. My washer is quiet too, sometimes we have to walk right into the laundry room and see the "in use" light to know it hasn't finished.

Breakfast is done. I baked 3 more muffins this morning. Love my counter top oven! I think it is possibly the best purchase I've made in a long time. We had oven cooked dinners through the summer by moving it to the balcony so the kitchen didn't heat up and now I'm happily baking fresh muffins each morning without having to wait for the big oven to heat up. Can't remember the last time I used my big oven, actually.

Thanks for all the warm wishes, 7.1 is on the couch nibbling on a piece of toast, 7.2 was back to her bouncy self so she did need the sleep, and 8 has lost most of the attitude.
Kathryn I totally agree isolation would be what I would have done if it were under normal circumstances, as she is old enough to understand the reasons behind isolation and privledges being taken away, but I did what they say not to do, I was cleaning up a 7.1 mess,7.2 was whinning, Dh was outside cutting the grass, I was tired and frustrated so when she said " be quiet I heard you" very hatefully I grabed her arm and gave her a few firm swats
Today I need to do my meal planning, check the supplies, and make my shopping list for tonite, think I might treat myself to a Starbucks after shopping

Very sad news in Joys & Concerns.

I spent yesterday preparing for last night's sewing group board meeting. I had to give a report about the classes and meetings I attended, as well as plan stuff for the next few months. I used break times to wander around our boards here.

Okay ~ Aw, while I was offline I missed LO's first day of school! What fun that he is having such a good time. If LO and DGS17 both had a 10ish first day, it's too bad that DGS15 only had a 6. Oh, and looks like yesterday the older boys switched their ratings. Sure hope their school days stabilize to all be enjoyable.

I'm so glad MysteryWoman peeked in and hope she will come back soon.

Today I am pleased to be able to have an Apron Day. 7x7 =
1) unpack suitcase (which I borrowed from my younger DSis and must return soon)
2) first 3 loads of laundry
3) wash all of the dishes DH used while I was away
4) sort mail enough to find bills to pay tomorrow
5) gather trash & recycling to set out on curb tonight
6) stir-fry ground turkey/veg & cook rice for supper
7) freezer & pantry inventory to write grocery list for tomorrow

Kathryn, we have really enjoyed our toaster oven this summer. We have been able to have tater tots or steak fries, garlic toast with cheese and casseroles that we usually don't have in the summer because I refuse to run my oven. My toaster oven is on a table in the sunroom. I think when it cools off, I will box it up and put it in the storage room for the winter. It will be handy enough that I can always get it out and use it if I need to.

School started today. The boys are with their dad. This was dd2 year to buy school supplies. Yes, they still rotate that and Halloween costumes. Even though the boys' dad is a teacher at a school 18 miles away, he took time off to bring the boys to my house and meet dd2, so that the boys could get their backpacks and they could take 1st day of school pictures. They each took turns taking pictures of each other with the boys. Then the 2 of them, the 2 boys and dgdalmost3 went across the street to the school. I kept dgd16mos here. I think at least a 3rd of the kids had dad or mom/dad with them. That didn't happen much when I was a kid or had kids in school. They just go a half day.

Dgd16 had to wear her cheerleader uniform and go to the high school to act as a guide for the freshmen and new to the district students. Problem is this a brand new school and dgd16 doesn't know where things are either. Tomorrow everyone goes to school for a full day and so begins another school year.

Finding more clean up from yesterday's watermelon disaster. Unfortunately 2 notebooks I found when cleaning out the living room cupboards were stored under the counter on the living room side. I had found journals in the two from dh's and my trip to Hawaii in 1990 and another in the other notebook of trip to FL with dShelley. I managed to pull them apart but now have a lot of typing to do so I can save them.

Another find was that the counter molding was loose on this side and I discovered it's come apart -probably from all the moisture. So when dh gets back I'll point that out as an urgent must-do.

I've now succeeded in tearing apart much of what I had organized last week.
