Yes, Norma, the Netherlands is dh's home country. English is his 2nd language, though at this point in his life his English is better and more mature than his Dutch. He has been here since age 18, though he has always gone back to visit his family there regularly. His original intent was to study here for 1 year as a gap year and then return to NL to finish his Univ. studies. However, one year became 4, and one thing led to another. . .and he is still here. His accent is not strong; I don't notice it on a day-to-day basis. If he gets nervous while giving a talk or something, it comes out more strongly. Occasionally, he will mix up words; he used to mix up "biopsy" and "autopsy." I was always quick to correct him when he would ask a friend, "How did the autopsy go?" when it had been a biopsy. LOL! That is a lovely story about your tape of Corrie! She was a remarkable lady, to be sure.

I'm off to switch laundry and work in ds' room. I'll start dinner in about 30 minutes so we can eat early (for us). Everyone here is jetlagging, except for me.

Hi everyone. I am stuck at home and having to be quiet. DD10 is staying with me today and tomorrow and is napping. Most unusual. Probably due to the tylenol with codeine + pain keeping her awake last night. It was a hard night, up every 4 hours for more pain meds. Yesterday, she broke her left wrist. If this sounds familiar, it is because last year, the day before spring break, she broke her right wrist. The doctor suggested keeping her in bubble wrap, or at least off of heallies. I hope we don't run out of pain meds. I was planning to take her to Brave this afternoon, but that is not going to happen. We have a birthday party at a baseball game to go to tonight. She has already warned me that she will probably need to come home early. I'm ok with that.

I think I will do some 15s around the house, since I am stuck here. I will use my FlyLady timer on vibrate. There is quite a lot of stuff to do, so I should not be bored. For break, I will probably read or crochet.

Tomorrow, a natural history museum that is normally only open to school groups is open free to the public. They are doing dinosaurs and DD wants to go. They also have a solar telescope. I called one of her favorite friends to see if he could go too, but have not heard back. Guess I'll go now ... quietly.

OOoh, Elizabeth, so sorry DD broke her wrist. I hope it heals quickly and pain goes away soon.

I am still at it. Shredded another big stack of stuff.

I used a sanding sponge and sanded that whole piece of furniture including the shelves and the 2 solid doors. DH is putting the clear coat on now. I offered to help but he was half way through and said for me not to dirty another brush. I did fix the 2 doorknobs and set them up to dry.

I went outside and hand cut the grass throughout the watermelon patch. I had to stop when I got to the middle because it was too hot out there. I've had water and lunch.

I am going to go slower now and see how I feel tomorrow.

All still quiet here. DD10 still sleeping. I have done some kitchen clean up, labelled some pictures and filed them, cooked the meat for dinner, and finished the last few pages of a magazine and put it in the recycle bin. I am also downloading Visual C++ Express and it has finally finished. Now I can be geeky at home. I think I will clean a catbox then crochet a rug if I can find the pattern. It doesn't have to be a complicated pattern. I think I know where a ripple pattern is.

You clever SHE, you, Harriet. But I can't believe it is that time already.

((Elizabeth's DD10)) Ouch! I hope she heals quickly.

So, dinner is basically ready, but dh is istill n a meeting. I postponed to 6:30 per his request, but at 6:30, the girls and I will start eating whether he is here or not. They want to be in bed by 8, and I think they're going to do Hank care this evening.

Ouch, hope this is the end for her, Elizabeth. DGS12 broke his same arm twice a couple of years ago and we really began to wonder if he had more problems than bad luck. He's not much of a 'grower'.

I was 'afraid' it was close, Harriet! Have on my to-do l**t to get wrapping gifts I bought in FL and to compile my l**t. I really only have a few weeks to get ready before we leave -unless I want to pay the extreme cost of postage (which I don't).

Aha! I think I just figured out why I was losing so much in posts! Evidently my built in cursor has been turned on somehow. Just noticed it when I happened to hit it that my cursor was moving around. Now to see if I can remember how to turn it off.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

We've picked and washed the plums all I could reach from the ladder
comfortably any way.

We got the stuff for the nest box project.
H. did not have to work after all.
We are out of sorts around here not really sure why.

Dgkids are jumping on our last nerves at the moment sigh I hear 'em calling "GRANDMA and the door bell is ringing". . . dgd had to show me the boat she made out of legos.

We had to go get them the right shoes and breakfast cereal.

Now Dgd is "reading" to me a book she has that she knows.

Went for a walk w/ dgd and got a rake for cleaning out the chicken run. Talked to the gal that I've been watching chickens grow and she is changing breeds and has a hen and her young just getting feathers I can buy! Yea they will be my bday chicks! They lay the reallydark eggs called Morans mom and mystery roo for the father] . Escapees have been causing havoc in neighbor's gardens but forage well they have a incubator also and eggs for us to try to hatch out when ever h. get the run done. Did not go to the bday ranch party for dil's dad [we were not ever actually invited] kind of a wierd situation I think h. is miffed that we were not able to go and tied up with other goings on in that time slot.

I'd better go check on the gkids. Dgson got his bed made up.

Random thought: Am loving f acebook. Connected with DD and DS today. Also cousins and I are having a great time commenting on each other's lives several times a week. Even found ex-sister-in-law. Glad to see she looks happy with her new husband and her sweet little daughter. Have thought about her many times since she and DB ended their disastrous marriage.

Warm today, but still have windows open. The smell of cows is wafting this way. We don't usually get that here, but it's good. Brings back memories of living in the midwest back in the 90's.

Holly bush is cut. Looks better!

Going out to eat after church tomorrow with a nice couple we have bonded with. Life is good!

My sister called and chatted. Then dd called and chatted. Then I slept for 2 hours.

Dh didn't want to cook and I didn't feel up to going out, so we settled on pizza. I came with him to the pizzeria and picked up 5 movies to watch this week. Dh and ds will be going out lots to movies over the next while so he wanted me to have something to watch here.

We watched an episode of Monk. I'll tidy the kitchen, start the dishwasher and then put away the laundry. I got 4 loads done in total including the bath mats and the shower curtain. So that's some zone work done this week.
