Re: Finally Friday
Ivy: you'll see 'birthing day' mentioned here often when it is a child's birthday as it recognizes the day is special to the mother as well as to the child. My 'baby', ds24's birthday was a week ago Wednesday so you'll see best wishes to me for that.
But today is one of those bittersweet days for Dee and she's aware and grieving appropriately by cutting herself some slack and recognizing the feelings but not wallowing in them. BTW Shelley was a grown woman with a family of her own. I find there are a lot of dates that throw me for a loop, sometimes I don't realize why I'm having a bad day until I note the date and realize it is the birthday of someone I love who has passed. Funnily enough, I tend to be affected more on birthdays than their passing dates, which I suppose shows that I'm remembering their life and not their death.
I'm almost ready for my nap now. Ds phoned. He had a doctor's appointment to clear him for scuba lessons and since his family doctor is still technically at the same practice I go to (but better doctor), it meant he was out here anyway so dropped in for an early lunch before driving back to the city. I had forgotten to tell him he didn't have to move in for the week tomorrow so we got that covered. He'll call twice a day and if I don't need him, he can stay in the city and if I do need him, he'll sleep here. It isn't as if he'll be around much, he has to be to work for 7:30 and then has things on Mon, Tuesday and Wednesday, so really he'd only be here overnight and I sleep fine at night. But dh feels better that he'll be on call for me.
I've got some of the mail processed and sorted through grocery flyers. Kitchen is a mess (dh came back home and cooked up a lunch for himself as well.) Before ds arrived, I spent 45 minutes repotting some orchids and bringing the ones that summered outside back inside. And cleaning up the mess of soil and bark in the laundry room. So I got work in but nothing I can cross off any written list.
Since it seems early for my nap (I've only been up for 3.5 hours) I'm going to have dh take me for a walk around the block.

Re: Finally Friday
Happy Friday, everyone! Having a happy homemaking day here...just puttering...made brownies and iced tea...washed a lol...need to vacuum. Daily devotions done. Love a day with no errands to run.
Kathryn--I also remember birthdays of loved ones more often than dates of their deaths. I found it so therapeutic to throw out all cards received when my father died--even tossed out the obituary notice. Didn't need those reminders...
Must start now on the never-ending wallpaper removal...working in master bedroom and then have one more bathroom to go.

Re: Finally Friday
Dh and I walked a kilometer. I then did a second sudoku (I'm getting better at them) and wrote up the results from my latest blood work and sent it off to my sister, kids and dh.
Now I'm off for my nap!

Re: Finally Friday
Good for you, Kathryn. Glad you got a little walk in!
For Ivy -she was 40 and had 2 children 14 & 15 -long story short -they went to live with their Dad. DD had sole custody up to that point.
DGS19 moved out as soon as he graduated last year and think DGD17 is 'thinking' about it. 'Nuf said. What makes today more difficult for her dks is that their dad's birthday is today too.
Storm clouds are beginning to gather. It's quite warm today but a cold front is coming and rain and chilly temps.
I'll be back. Dsisil is just coming in.
I like that statement -and you're so right. And didn't Shelley get something in our mail today (rarely happens) -a baby catalog of all things!which I suppose shows that I'm remembering their life and not their death.

Re: Finally Friday
I've just had lunch and am just getting here. I left the house at 8:30 a.m., a little late, and got home around 2:40 p.m.
Errands:
x Panera - pick up bagels and coffee
x moms group steering comm. meeting, 9 - 11:15
x stayed and chatted with friends for quite a while afterward.
x went through moms group supply bins, noting what we have and what we might need to start off the year
x Target - odds and ends
x bank - deposit some checks that have been sitting around for a couple months.
x home - put away everything.
x lunch.
Dgirls will be home in about 30 minutes; dd16 has her small group Bible study this afternoon, so she'll drop off dd14 and head straight over to dfriend S's house. Dfriend S is their leader, and she and dfriend R live a couple blocks away from us.
It has worked out so that dd16 now has an art independent study 7th hour, so she is thrilled with that. I'm thrilled that dd14 doesn't need to figure out the 7th hour (late) city bus to get home. Dd14 is thrilled with that too.
We're a thrilling bunch, I guess. --Or we're easily thrilled. LOL!
I think I'm going to veg until dd14 is home.

Re: Finally Friday
For our 'resident' nurse, Scattered:
Well, I tried -3 times to call for my mammogram/bone density appointment. No answer. So will try again. But on the good side I did find out dh's cardiology appointment (Oct 2) and made ones for him with his GP for Monday for his flu shot and other follow ups and one with our financial advisor. (guess we have a new one
again). so that much is done. Have to make one with my GP too, but don't want to do that until after my mammogram.
EDIT at 3:41pm -Okay, Scattered, I have made my appointment -for Friday, Sept 21st. Why am I always so nervous about making this appointment? Whew, at least that much is done!

Re: Finally Friday
My bone density and mamo is scheduled for 9/25. Dee, let's hope both of ours turn out a-ok. My gyno indicated she wouldn't keep me as a patient if my bone density turns out terribly bad and I refuse to go on bone medicines. I have so far resisted that, but my tests have always been horrible.
I am beginning to see little spots of white between the papers on my desk. I am doing the most important stuff first. Some of that is simply putting files together, because it is in the way of other stuff I need to do.
I keep wanting to quit, but I'm pushing myself to continue on a bit.
Kathryn, I did read where you are just letting your stuff pile up for the time being. I wish I could do that. Everything would grind to a halt if I did. Even DH is mentioning things I've been letting go, and he seldom cares about the paperwork around here. I guess I just think he doesn't care about it; he's never had to deal with stuff not being done.

Re: Finally Friday
((Dee)) I hadn't realized this was the anniversary.
Welcome, Ivy!
Ah, Twins' vacation is almost over. . . .
I need to make an appt. for a mammogram too. I tend to put that off. I also need to get my eyes checked. I can tell my vision isn't what it used to be. I'm getting old.

Bernice--Meant to say that we are New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fans in this household. For college sports, we stick with NCSU Wolfpack. Have to say that DS grew up in a Green Bay Packers bedroom as we lived in the midwest at that time.
Used to love the Charlotte Hornets...still can't believe they aren't there anymore.
