Not of her death, Helia, but of her birthday, so I'm celebrating her life -just as Kathryn said! :) Should try calling our dgd17 tonight -I'm sure it's a double-whammy day for her, with both of her parents sharing a birthday. She's reaching an age where she really misses having her mom. We try to see her as we can, but her dad tries to put the lid on that -but not always. But today would surely be one of those days -so we do what we can, when we can. Our ddil#2(DS-A) takes her under her wing as much as possible. Her own dd is 5 years younger but you'd never know it. They get along so well. Last year she and DS paid for DGD17's dance classes. But with a new baby and other cuts, they just can't do that this year. Wish we could, but can't afford to spend that kind of money.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

My gyno indicated she wouldn't keep me as a patient if my bone density turns out terribly bad and I refuse to go on bone medicines.

She's probably finding more and more patients won't do it these days, Harmony, because the lawsuits have been in the headlines so much. I noticed one in a newspaper just the other day. I'm sure doctors get frustrated, but they need to respect patients' using their own intelligence to weigh their choices, and take their time. They still should work with their patient, for goodness sake.

I'm very glad to hear little snippets of improvement from Kathryn and Harmony.

ellyphant, the meanness  of taking (demanding) an area's hard-won Revolutionary War nickname before you'll bring a team to their area, then copywriting it to take ownership in the sports world, then moving far away but refusing to allow the name to revert to the area that loves it ... ... really a shameful action. The other area suffered embarrassment over that fiasco as well, and continues with a name they didn't want, which doesn't represent them. Sports is big business, though. The game aspect is overshadowed by the dollar. Stepping off soap-box now.

Dee, and Kathryn, Thank you for explaining to me what the birthday was.

Nancy, WTG on the walk. I did heavy housework instead. Might walk this evening.

Thanks for the welcome, Helia! :)

My Ta Dah's for today, so far are:

- downloaded free Nook Books
- washed & dried 2 loads of laundry, rugs are drying now.
- wrote a 3.5 page letter to a new pen pal
- cleaned the main/guest bathroom, shook out the rugs, swept, and mopped the floor
- cleaned the powder room, shook rugs, swept and mopped the floor.
- crocheted on a Christmas gift afghan, but didn't get far because DH came back from the woods.
- I sorted the mail and read it.
- I put recycle out to the bin twice today
- I rested for 50 min. in a kind of "twilight" sleep.

When I went outdoors, awaiting DH to drive up from the mailbox 1/4 mile away, I heard the steps of a big animal in the woods near our house. We have deer, but they're usually noisier than the animal today. We also now have a COUGAR in our woods, so I'm "wondering" if I scared a cougar off. :o :? :( I've not been hiking the woods alone, nor getting the mail alone because of the cougar. :!:

Harriet, I know what you're talking about. I agree completely! We were bewildered at how that all happened. We had moved away by then, but still had a "Hugo" Christmas stocking, for heaven's sake...and had bought lawn chairs in Hornet's colors!

Waiting for a fellow to come pick up some wood from the yard. Our clean-up continues around here.

I did it! I pretended I was MT and/or Bookie and knew what I was doing with a pair of scissor and sewing machine. :D Armed with a spirit of adventure, I didn't let my lack of knowledge, know-how and having no idea what the outcome would look like stop me ............I tackled LO curtains that I didn't like and turned them into something that is appealing and looks great! (if I may say so myself). After I finished and had them all hung.....I stood there admiring how good they looked then started wondering what to do with all the extra curtain material (I removed the valance and cut about 2' off the bottoms of the curtains). Then I had a brain storm to make bed skirts from it. That tied all the room together and now it looks awesome! I couldn't be happier with how this project turned out.
The newly created bedskirts aren't fully finished but they are in place now and look good. I'll work on them more next time this room gets my focus.

The cool front arrived! 30 minutes ago it was 107 degrees.....now it shows 88 degrees! YESssssssssssssssssssssss!!

House looks great for FNG. Cookies are baking in the counter top oven.

Hi everyone! I am getting through the day much better than I thought I would. I had too much caffeine yesterday and was up until 215 last night. I finished a comet picture in art class and hung it in the garage near the body of my 1961 Comet. The rug pattern I am crocheting is NOT working. I am going to get a different pattern. DD10 is having problems with her broken wrist. When she moves her fingers it hurts. This did not happen with her previous broken wrist, so she has a doctor's appiontment Monday. My plan tonight is to go to my friends house and look in on her cats (she is in Italy). I will probably read some while I am there.

Napped for about 10 minutes but was down for 2 hours. Ended up getting my computer because I was bored just lying there.

Dh started dinner, biked to the store for the mail and then we ate. I just remembered to pick another round of ripe tomatoes. The weather is getting cooler starting tomorrow so I wanted to get these ones off the vine before a surprise frost hit.

I'll run the dishwasher now and go down to the basement to watch a movie and work on my really messy creative room. I walk through it at least twice daily and it is affecting my sense of worth it is so out of control.

When I get back upstairs, I'll email a housecleaner. Our favourite hair wash 'girl' (who turns out to have a kid ds' age) and another worker left the salon a couple of months ago and started a company called "Life 'Maid' Easier" with the tag line, "Life is full of routines, makes us part of yours....Simple!" They do cleaning, decluttering and meal preparation as well as shopping and errands for those who are housebound. I'm not sure they'll come out here but thought if I have to concede defeat for now, I'd love to give them the work and don't mind paying extra for the travel time (adds up to an hour for them, at least.)

Lynlee, your mention of the kookaburras at the top of your post triggered a memory of a darling little song that starts"Kookaburra sits in the old oak tree..." I can't remember the rest but the tune has been running around my mind all day (I came here early intending to post then but didn't make it.) The song was in a song book I used when I was teaching elementary music. Do you know it? I suspect it is an Australian folk song.
