SATURDAY SITUATION

Post by DeeClutter »

What is your situation today? Here the morning is starting out with a gorgeous sunrise. Think it's supposed to be ok today, but rain, rain, rain tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day dh and ddil#1 walk for breast cancer. DDIL is now a 3 year survivor of stage 4, aggressive breast cancer & dh is a 49 year survivor from Hodgkins Disease. Both are remarkable in my book!

I slept pretty well last night -except for 3 bathroom breaks. DH & I both had an iced coffee from McD's pretty late in the day. Surprised the caffeine didn't keep me awake. Had to get up about 6:30 because I had cramps in my legs. I've had my meds, tested BS was actually pretty good today, and am now sipping my coffee.

Got a lot done on the computer yesterday. Transferred all my photos from my iphone to the computer and then on to a flash drive. It's 'micro' small, but has 8GB. I also transferred all the photos that were already on my laptop to the USB. Went through a few more recipe booklets -if the ones I wanted were 'cards' I tore them out and ones on pages I'll copy on to the computer today. Think I have all of those booklets done now. Trying to get a lot of that type of thing done so I can let go of them. Taking all the ones I'm through with up to the laundry room. Chances are they won't be taken now until next year -but that's ok, at least they're out of here.

58* in here this morning. We have a 'tower' heater in the bedroom and it's set at 61, but that was plenty for that room. Had it at 65 the night before & it kept getting too warm in there. Beginning to wonder if the reason I'm so cold all the time might be a bit of thyroid issue as well. Know both my dmom & dd have a problem with it. Does it run in families?

I don't have the 'situation' of getting our home 'company ready' today. Though it's not bad, I know I see things with different 'eyes' when visitors are coming. So, I'm focusing on slowly going through things to take out what I need to take to FL with us. Hoping that number will be smaller this year. Know I also have to pretty much l&&t what's left here so I remember when it's time to pack to come back. Hoping some things will not have to be transported.

Was sad to see on the news last night that printers from the Big Yellow Box (from where dh retired) are no longer going to be made (I have a wireless here & 1 in FL). They will continue to manufacture ink so I'll have them as long as they 'last'. It's been very hard to watch this once giant company become so small. Time was they employed 70,000 people here and now it's below 5,000. So many people (mainly retiress at this point) have been affected. Dh's division was sold to I T T about 5 or 6 years ago -at this point I'm very glad it was. Dh took a 'lump sum' disbursement when he retired, which turned out to be a very wise move. He has a small annuity that had to be taken from his last year or so of work there. Now people don't even have that option -have to take the annuity, such as it is. I used to 'gripe' that we went from $43/month for health care to now paying about $350/month -but it's SO much better than retirees from there have now -if they have anything at all.

Guess I'm rambling and should be getting s2s -here it is going for 8 o'clock!

Good morning to all! We have a late afternoon wedding to attend today, but that is it. Dh has gone to Torah study. Ddogs got me up at 7:15 to feed them while dh was sitting watching TV. Macs just doesn't believe that dh can do it, I guess.

I need to take ddogs for a walk - we've had some very light rain this morning but I think they want to go.

Good Morning!

(((Dee))) I feel the pain of your DH coworkers retirement woes. Depending on a life time annuity to come from a company is fast becoming a thing of the past. My DDad's retirement check has now been exceeded by the cost of health insurance. In the past, DDad received a monthly retirement check, however now DDad doesn't receive a check but instead gets a monthly bill for $70 that he has to pay in order to keep health insurance. DParents live on SSecurity and a small retirement from fire dept.

Ivy - OMM is On My Mind. I'm not sure where that acronym came from. Maybe someone with a better memory than mine will remember.

Today's situation - rest rest rest.
This has been a hard week. I told DH at the beginning of this week that our bodies would probably rebel from the stress and we would all be sick by the end of the week. Yup! LO got sick to his stomach during the night and woke me up this morning saying his throat hurt. So, I just want to hang around the house as much as possible today and have a relaxing day.

I'm awake and need to get out of bed.

I'm skipping treadmill today because I suspect there will be a lot of activity later in the day.

My hair is so greasy from skipping washing yesterday that I feel really yucky. You'd think that would propel me out of bed, but no, sadly, I've been lying here for an hour.

Wondering minds: does LO know he's supposed to meet your dd & sil tomorrow, Okay? Hope you all manage to kick any sickness in the butt -you don't need that 'situation'.

I'm s2s, bed made, found dh's charger (he had taken it with him last weekend) for his K indle F ire. Have water heater on so I can do dishes. Have a sinkful.

Think while the bedroom is still warm I'm going to go sort through dh's drawers beneath our closets. Might as well sort as to what's going & what's staying there -it's mostly shorts. They don't all have to go. But I do need to make a l**t of what will be here -so I don't double up coming back in the spring. Oh, how I hate to think it's nearly time to head out. Have just about 5 weeks -that feels terribly close at this point.

Hoping dh doesn't lose some of his winterizing clients here at the park. That's his spending money for FL and one of the newer camper places nearby has sign-up sheets at the store -$22 for basic winterizing, no fees, or travel -but they have to have at least 10 to do on October 8th and again on October 15th-. Hoping that's the 'clincher'. (Had to run to see what the big rumble was I heard -5 helicopters -probably from the National Guard in Niagara Falls).

Getting out warm clothes for dh for tomorrow -think he'd best dig out his rain gear too. He already said he'd take an umbrella. Now I see it's supposed to be lightening too. Hate to see ddil out in it -her immune system isn't the greatest.

You're allowed,Kathryn.

We are fogged in again today so we aren't moving until it lifts. It was scary driving yesterday when we could see 1/4 mile - now I can hardly see the cars that are 1/2 a block away. :o

We arrived safe and sound yesterday about 3 and parked at the Elk Lodge in Liberal, KS. This a a regular stop for us and we stop twice a year - once on the way to our family and once on the way to AZ for the winter. Next stop is Tucumcari, NM, and ditto there.

The lodge had a steak night last night and it was one of the best rib eye steaks I've ever had. By the time we finishes the day caught up with me ans we just went to bed.

We probably won't leave here until around noon. But today is a shorter drive than yesterday so we will be good.

Kathryn - I'll join you in washing hair. We can both have sweet smelling and shiny clean hair this morning. :)

Dee - We haven't told LO about meeting his parents tomorrow. A couple months ago we were driving to met them (at a outdoor park) when I told LO they were going to be there He immediately started crying, said he didn't want to go play anymore and begged to go home. I don't know when I will tell him this time. I will probably delay until the last moment. I try to select places with fun things for LO to do, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I asked DGS17 to come tomorrow, but he declined. If DGS17 was there, then LO would have fun regardless of who else was there. However DGS17 can't stand to be around DD and refuses to be anywhere she is. Today I'll ask DGS15 if he wants to go with us. DGS15 personality is more stoic but he doesn't run/play with LO as freely as DGS17 does.

Harmony - we don't know how much of the MC stuff will be ruined yet. The sun hasn't come out to dry it out yet. We have received over 4" of rain in the past 3 days!  Some of the STUFF IS obviously ruined (sheetrock, technical manuals, papers, books, etc). Yesterday, I hung about 30 tie down straps on the fence to dry. however the come-along mechanism on them may rust beyond use. The plumbing items should be okay when they dry out. Ditto on the fishing items. I suspect the electrical items are about 70% okay. The sealed jugs (oil, gas additive, etc) will be okay. But the spray cans may rust beyond use. The wood will probably dry without warping (hopefully).....basically we are still in waiting mode. Won't know for sure about things until they get to dry out.

OK, I found the situation btwn. dgsons and DD and dsil quite sad when I read it. Much healing of all sorts to take place. Dh will be joining you, right?

Harmony, I think you said you have hypothyroidism. My dd16 was diagnosed with that about 3? or so years ago. I think it is fairly common, and very simple to take care of - a little pill every day. Dd16 goes to the pediatric endocrinologist every 6 months to be monitored and have levels in her blood checked. I don't know if adults go that often or not. We were told that b/c kids are still growing, their levels can change more than adults - and hers have changed over time. Her dosage is much higher than it was at the beginning.

Dee, I think some thyroid issues are genetic. I am always cold too! At dh's behest, I have had my levels tested a couple times, and they've always come back normal. SO, i guess I just run cold. We don't know where dd16's hypothyroid came from; since I'm adopted, perhaps that is in my background. There's nothing in dh's background. . . . Or, perhaps, it just happened.

Twins, I had wanted to comment earlier on how lovely it sounds like your new neighborhood is! I always enjoy hearing your descriptions of views and sunsets, etc.

Hi MT! You seem to be encountering a lot of fog where you are! The steak dinner sounds wonderful! I haven't checked out your blog for a while, so maybe I'll do that soon. I like seeing photos of KS.

Saturday situation: Chores around the house, Hebrew progress, dfriend A is coming over this afternoon for talking and "counseling;" she can be quite intense, but Dh will be around too, and his counseling skills are greater than mine. Then tonight, we're meeting dfriends downtown for dinner and a Vienna Teng concert at our cozy downtown venue, The Ark. We like her music a lot! I know I've posted a link to her music here before; she is Asian, a Stanford engineering grad who decided to pursue her music after college. . She has recently completed an MA in business something here at UMich. .. .

I'm up embracing sweats that I got earlier in the summer at a yd. sale
swapping summer clothes for warmer stuff today. The situation here this week is that I've been cold the in the mornings so I found the solution!

Found a book I think I need to read at the store but will see if I can
check it out from the library.

Got another pr. of jeans new as I've given up on finding any that will fit me at the thrift shops for now any way.

Had granola bar and boiled egg for breakfast as it was faster. H. is up and ready to work on the netting for the chicken run.
