Village Anniversary Monday

I got the upstairs cleaning/tidying done and then watched Iron Lady with dh. Lying in my chair wasn't enough and I'm getting very tired now. Dh has walked for the mail because it is a gorgeous day.

I'm going to strip the spare bed (ds has been in it 7 nights now) and wash and dry those sheets tonight.

I also "translate" to Nancy and "translate" to CathyS which is especially interesting for me to think about right now since it occurs to me they are both vehicular translations!

Ivy, she was Peel because she peeled out on her motorcycle and Air because she caught air in a fast boat on the water. Oh, shoot, she already explained it! LOL! I was going to show off my memory! LOL

Harmony has shown me her household notebook, and although it was partially foreign to me (unlike mine, it was neat and no papers were sticking out, so I hardly recognized it) I admired it quite a bit - she does a excellent job of using page protectors. I am pleased I thought to have business-card 3-ring holders in mine. Recently I thought of using 3-hole punch school pencil holders for spare keys to neighbor's or family's homes or to storage spaces, etc.

I've shared here before my great debt to our librarian one town over, who directed me to the P and P books when I had one child by the hand and one held on my hip. She was a lighthouse in the fog and now the one that was on my hip is 27, so that's a quarter century at least. I still think of that info as cutting edge as far as revolutionary "compartmentalized" organization. I had been trying to l-i-s-t, and it was in that very town, when the one on my hip was in the toddler-swimmers class at the Y and the older one was in a class that didn't meet on the same day that our pick-up truck broke down on the side of the street and I looked at that oh-so-unhappy l-i-s-t and realized I was never going to get it all done. When P and P explained to me that I was a person who needed to divide in order to conquer, I knew I had found true genius! I had a slight relapse at the time of Hurricane Hugo a year or two (?) later, too, and I don't think I was fully well until I hit a rock bottom of self-recrimination shortly before the impossible happened, and the long electrical outages shook me back into a better, self-accepting place for good.

I'm so happy that later I was able to attend that librarian's in-person class on the SHE system and be her helper with some of her lessons.

In the spirit of "every day's an Errand Day" lately I've just returned from the hearing aid place in an "emergency" (not) attempt to calm my ddad - long story. And he is still a long way from calm. I have had a weary day. And one of the toilets is broken at the other house. Sigh.

I remember having a "red dress". I've always been Emptynester on all the boards. I found the P&P book in the library and started using it. During a stash and dash it got stashed and I had to pay for it. Found it over a year later. Since I was President of the Library Board at that time - I never heard the end of it. But it worked - I used to start over and over and over but it really came in handy the most between 2001 and 2003 when we packed up the house to sell.

We are off the road and parked. Not sure I'm liking where we are parked. We look out the front window into the cattle yard of a small meat packing business. It would be where you would bring your own cattle/pig/lamb to be processed. It is empty now and I hope no one brings anything in until we leave in the morning.

I'm going to go back to see if I can upload some of the neat pictures of Tucumcari to the previous blog and write up the one for today. TTFN

Hi everyone and Happy Anniversary to us! I was TheOtherElizabeth on shesorganized, someone else had already taken Elizabeth. This weekend I got the house in shape for the sewing get-together tonight. My sewing table is actually almost completely empty. One machine, one sewing box, and a very small pile of odds and ends (about the size of a piece of paper). It was done in 15s and didn't take that long. I even did a small amount of filing. There are still boxes, but there will always be boxes.

I have no idea what I will do for dinner, guests are coming too quickly for cooking. Maybe cereal. The usual Monday errand night will not happen. I have gotten the stuff together for the lawyer tomorrow.

I have found the pattern for my next crochet project (my book finally came in). Now I need to examine my stash for suitable yarn or get more. I would like to use from my stash, but I don't know if will work. Otherwise, I will use inexpensive yarn, not sure yet what color. I am using some of my stash in a rug. This nice rose yarn that is too fuzzy to use for DD10's blanket squares.

Ivy: I too shave up, didn't know there was another way. However, I rarely have to do it because redheads have very fine, nearly invisible leg hair.

Thanks, Elizabeth and Kathryn, for telling me that you, too, shave up. I think I'll go back to that Lectra Shave stuff and my women's wet-dry razor and stand in the tub with my eyeglasses on so I can see. I get a closer shave, too.

Harriet, Thanks for the translation of Peel and Air! I never would, in a million years, have thought that one up.

I helped put away light-colored towels, but forgot to start the dark towels, which I'll go do soon. I worked on my expenses/earnings records, then recalled how the purchases of books are also claimed if you're a writer, so had to print up receipts of s/h orders. But I ended up with a big headache, after working on Mar. - end of Sept., so decided to do it on Desk Day, which is Wed.

I get a Debbie Macomber newsletter, she was seeking out pumpkin recipes, but I couldn't find my pumpkin bread one. I found a dessert with pumpkin in it, so I hope she'll post it at her site, since she picks them out. It was fun to do.

I need to read a letter I got today. The adult mom is a mom to a young woman with Down's Syndrome. The mom is such a dear, is so young at heart, and really into the activities of her DD and The Special Olympics. It's a pure joy to read her upbeat and happy letters. Her DD is such a blessing to her. ♥

Btw, I found a great piece on the connection between creativity and the health of the brain and posted as much as I thought was legit in Art, Craft and Needlework thread.

By that time on WebForums, which was huge and diverse, most first names were already on various of their interest boards - who knows how many. So I was one of the many among us who joined using punctuation to allow me to use my chosen handle. I was ~Harriet~. Several used asterisks. Of course, Sparkle used asterisks for everything. LOL. By the time you clicked into her threads you were already excited just by looking at her sparkling titles.

helia, your mention of those two handles would be my thought as well.

Let me get this straight.

Emptynester, you misplaced a library copy of the Sidetracked Home Executives book... ... in a stash and dash... ... for a year... ...while you were President of the Library Board. (reverent pause) Classic.

Happy Anniversary to all in the Village!

Just finished our dinner and wanted to post while I finish my tea. Maybe it was the full moon that kept so many from a good night's sleep! I did not sleep well on Sat. night, maybe three hours total. So yesterday I had an easy day. Dh talked to ds#2 in the morning and said they weren't coming; both ddil and dgd17 were sick. I sat around most of the morning, but got bored and decided to clean out a small laundry basket full of odds & ends then did a small bookcase. The day wasn't a total loss!

We used to have a Dollar Theater near us, but it closed years ago. In fact, ds#3 worked there while he was in high school.

It's been interesting reading about our Village history. I remember some of the older names mentioned, but I was lurking then, not posting until around the time CEO retired. It was actually my dsis got me interested and I'm so glad she did! One time she and dh visited us she brought her Journal to show me. It really is as neat and organized as Harriet says! As a matter of fact I think it's time that I redo my Journal and 3x5s.

Today was my desk day. I've got bills organized for the month, wrote a couple of checks and they're ready for the mailbox. My desk looks neater again.

Oh, shaving ↑ is the way to go!

I CUOP and saw Sharon's name, so I went looking for her email address from a pile of old emails that I saved from way back when... I don't have hers. Other names I had forgotten were found.

I even went into dh's old emails. Nothing there either.

I changed my sheets to flannel last night and had a very toasty and cozy night's sleep. Too bad the alarm goes off at 5 a.m.


I think I tried to keep my name as Cabby here, but for whatever reason I am now CathyS. I'm okay with that.

Harriet, my dd always thought it was hilarious that I kept misplacing my copy of "Clear your Clutter with Fung Shui." It would go missing, and then turn up in unexpected places a year later.

I'm enjoying all the reminiscing today. I think I only started posting and working the system the year my kids were in first grade. I had lurked for awhile and finally took the name "Twins' Mom" since that was my primary vocation back then. That fall I volunteered two mornings at dkids school and then had lunch with them, then came back home afterward to start a.m. routine after lunch! That was in the Webforums days - on the board that was like a discussion board I remember we used to do the "TOTH" challenges and check back at 45 minutes after the hour. We had some posters who spun out elaborate stories related to "maintaining our castles" and other imaginative scenarios. I've thought often about another moniker but I don't know who I'd be?

Back then I used a palm pilot, and an app called "Splash shopper" that had a desktop app that is still on my computer. I have the splash shopper app and routines on my laptop when I follow them. I think I haven't done any zone work in a long, long time. Helia, I still haven't revamped my routines much since dkids went away to school.

I agree on shaving legs upward also. Like Elizabeth I don't have much regrowth and it's mostly very light but I do wear skirts a lot in the summer and to work, so I like to do that grooming weekly when I'm wearing skirts often.

I'm missing so many who have moved on - Gretchen with her dboys (I think one is the same age as my dkids), SRHS (Short red headed SHE who named Home Despot) and Peeper, whom dh and I met with her dh and dd for dinner.

Ivy - I too shave up... that line of conversation reminds me of one night when I posted on CEO's site that I needed to pluck my chin, I didn't realize the can of worms I was opening. Oh and DS19 says he shaves down except for right under his jawline then he shaves up. Kind of funny coincidence; while I was at the store this afternoon he sent me a text asking me to pick him up shaving cream and razors.

Elizabeth - isn't being a redhead Grand?!? I rarely shave my legs.

MT - I can see how that parking place would be hard on you.

Although I was never privileged to be a citizen of the Village until recently, I was a member of CEO's board until she closed it Dec 6, 2004, and then moved on to the new board that was started by two members of that board with the help of many others. I was always going to put a system like the notebook together but never got around to it. I found back then that posting my L!$t on a thread like this was enough. Of course at the time my OCD was in full force and I was known to have 24-48 hr "binges" where I would clean until I laid down for a couple of hours and then be back up and at it again. I was also familiar with Flylady and got her emails for about a year until I just got sick of the mass number of them. After my BFF past I had trouble seeking help from any of the systems since my BFF was a died in the wool Flybaby.

This weekend was a bust for me, I know that I should be easier on myself due to the number of hours I put in at work but the guilt is getting to me. I need to get my card system finished up and get it in action.

I had somewhat of a rough afternoon, during the class I flashed bask to when XDH raped me when he was drunk. I was able to go to the grocery store and then came home and took a nap. Watching the news on DVR now and think I will work on my card system while I watch my shows tonight. I have an assignment for class tomorrow but am to fragile and will do it in the morning.
