Had a rough day at work and then a fitful nights sleep... sometimes being a Psych Nurse is tough on the psyche.

Get to work on the Military Unit today which was my original unit, I love working with the soldiers and sailors suffering PTSD.

Tomorrow DP is taking me to a Halloween Party and DS13 is babysitting.

4. Ready self to go out for dinner, etc
5. Straighten dh's closet

Also OMM is Okay's DB. Oh, how I feel for him. I know he was so looking forward to that shoulder being better and not worse! I, at least, don't have big plans/thoughts that he might have. And dh is very good at 'taking care of me'.

Glad you have a car that 'fits' you now, Kathryn. Always love hearing your descriptions when you're traveling!

Woke up about 12:23, coughing. Came out in the recliner (after a drink) and that was the end of it for the night. Did start raining about 2 minutes later. Only got 3/10 overnight. I almost think it's supposed to be out of here by this morning.

Going to go to Hidden Valley for dinner with friends tonight. Hoping to go early enough to see some color. Also going to stop at that A mish store on the way and pick up a small supply of that sugar free french vanilla cappucino I was talking about the other day. Yum! This destination also has an animal 'zoo' of sorts, but not sure we're taking that in. Depends on how late we get there I guess. Other couple has to be in Warsaw to do some business at the Dept Motor Vehicles. They just sold their place (across from us here) so will be pretty well staying in FL. We really like them and will miss them -fortunately they're only about 10 miles from DD's in FL.

DH said last night he'd put 22 golf carts so far in the rec hall for storage. People were here last night and asked how to go about it. He asked if they'd paid & of course not -there was someone at the store all day yesterday. So, they're leaving a check made out to GP so dh can take it and the cart over today. Dcampowner doesn't do much of anything now unless he's paid FIRST. Can't blame him.

Have to compile my lists today of 'things packed'. I've used a couple of different notebooks -want to put them in the computer.


Finally found black ink for my printer yesterday. Sure this will probably be about the last we'll use it -I have a K odak & since they are no longer making printers or cameras, I'm sure the ink won't be far behind. They just announced this past week that as of Dec. 31st they will no longer provide any benefits for retirees. So we know lots of people who are scrambling for health care, if not life insurance too. Dh's division from there was bought out about 6 years ago. At the time we were not very happy -but NOW, oh so glad it was.

I am heading out to meet with rabbi this morning at 8:30 - at least it forced me to be up early today. Ddogs have been walked; thankfully, dMacs is back to normal from the tranquilizer I gave him night before last. Nice walk as the sky was getting lighter in the east.

Dh and I will go to temple tonight - it's his mother's yartzeit - or anniversary of her death.

Good morning! I hope to be fruitful today. It feels good to slowly be getting through events in this busy 2 week period: trip to Toronto (fun, yes, but took away from other things), skit for the 5th/6th graders, teaching yesterday. The last event will be the race in Detroit this weekend. After that, things will quiet down to the normal busyness.

Lat night, I got home from P/T conferences at 7:10. Friends started arriving soon afterward and were here until 10:30 last night. The pulled pork was well-liked by all, including dh's Italian colleague! That is now one of those tried and true recipes in my mental recipe box. I guess feeding 4 friends (plus my family) last night was one of my thoughtful deeds. Also, setting up, teaching, and then cleaning up after moms group.

Skippable Rant: I do not like this arena style conferencing with teachers. I arrived at 5:55, after running some errands, and left at 7 - and got to talk to all of 3 teachers. Most of that time was spent standing in lines. If I had wanted to talk with all of the girls teachers, that would have been impossible. We are not so happy with dd14's biology teacher; at curriculum night, she told the parents that she is "a facilitator and not a teacher." Hmmm.... that would be OK for some subjects, but I think my daughter needs a biology teacher. Dd14 is now saying she is learning a lot from the book, so this may be a self-taught class, which maybe is what the teacher meant by being a facilitator. Also, exams/tests are not matching well with what is done in class and the study guides, and that is somewhat distressing to dd14. The teacher only offered that we need to help dd14 "not to worry" over scores. No help in terms of practical suggestions or making exams match in-class material. . . . Dd14 is doing very well in the class overall, which maybe is why our concerns don't sound real, but the class is somewhat consternating for her. Dh and I have actually talked about moving her out of this class (we're never done that seriously before), but dd14 doesn't want to mess up the rest of her schedule. This is the 3rd freshman biol. teacher we've had at this high school, and none of them has been super-strong. However, ds and dd17 have only had excellent teachers for the rest of their science years here, so it is good that we have that knowledge to keep perspective. I was glad we had no concerns for the math teachers, as those lines were L-O-N-G.

At P/T conferences, the band director was great, as always. I know him and he knows me. It sounds like dd14 actually did make the bar for the 2nd level band, but b/c of other reasons he kept her in the lower one. I actually agree with his reasoning - it involved another oboe player from her school who was a good friend of hers. This friend has since moved and now attends another high school in the area, leaving the band director in an awkward position re: dd14's placement, so he kept her where she was, which I can understand, esp. knowing the other oboe player in the band.

Probably TMI.

OK, dh just left for a meeting. I'm going to s2s and get this day going. First, will be errands: WW meeting, Target, and the bank. I need to call the vet too; Lily has an odd looking sore on her back.

I think that is TERRIBLE to stop/change benefits after people are retired! What are those elder people suppose to do now?

4 hours until we need to be on the road. I am unsure whether to take LO. As soon as his Tylonel started to wear off during the night, he needed more for pain & fever....... 10pm, 2am, 6am. I don't think he is contagious, just feels miserable. He has asked me 4 times this morning if it is time to go see DGS6. Is it worse to keep him home where he will be sad & miserable......or......travel while he is miserable but thrilled to be with DGS6. Hum..... His shot area on thigh is swollen & red. I think I will call doctor office as soon as it opens up this morning and see if they can take a look at him.

DBro son is going to be with him this morning when he hears the news. DNephew is a competitive roper too, and the two of them have team roped for years. Last night the doctors said it will take a miracle for DBro to ride a horse again. DBro doesn't have any "quit" in him, so I suspect he will find a way. Not sure what DBro will do for a living now.

DNiece was trying to protect The Greats and didn't tell them about DBro surgery failure. DNiece called them from the hospital and told them everything was fine. I don't understand that mindset. DParents are going to find out, so delaying telling them will only foster insecurity. DParents want to know what is going on. I told DMom "the rest of the surgery story" last night. She understands why DNeice wanted to protect them and not give them any unpleasant news, but was relieve to know that they weren't being kept out of the loop.

Good morning.

Rough night's sleep. Dh was twitchy, the people next door are very noisy (at 2 in the morning?! and not that kind of noise!) and I was just miserable.

I finally got about 4 hours of good sleep and so far that seems to be enough.

The laundry, including dh's cotton knit undershirt, was dry after only 9 hours. That gives you an idea of how dry the hotel room is. Dh is on the phone with India and the baggage people trying to figure out how much he can spend today on clothes. It is not going well but it seems he has $100. We need shampoo (his is special), another undershirt and some boxers. The guy on the phone is an idiot. He keeps asking dh for information that he has already read to dh. No idea when the bag will get here because there is a wrinkle since we move hotels on Sunday.

I just realized something - dh insists on putting his coat and hat in his checked bag. He's lucky it is unseasonably warm here and sunny because this is Canada in October - and that explains why he felt too cold in the car last night when it was 40 degrees out. There's a Salvation Army Store so I'll take him for a coat later today. He'll need it at night and it is going to rain tomorrow.

Was up extra early. Thought I'd sit and read a bit, but phone and chores got in the way, it seems the day started out fast.

OKay, was your DBro a rancher? Dr. asked DH what he did and then said, "You might want to stop that". Very unhelpful. He hardly ever goes out to a job without a helper. There's too much he can't do. Still, he is the brains behind the work, so he keeps things going. Can your DBro apply for disability? DH won't even think of doing that.

Kathryn, sorry about the luggage. Happened to DBiL recently and he was in China for days...or some country like that...where he has to take his own toilet paper, so he was without......ew....

That is now one of those tried and true recipes in my mental recipe box.

Write it down. As I've found over the years now I wish I had some of those 'tried & true in my mental recipe box' -because I can't remember just what went in or how I made them. Like the spaghetti sauce I loved as a teen & young adulthood. Also -would you mind posting that 'sort of' recipe in our recipe section? Sounds yummy and easy!

Called & made the DPC to make my Dr's appointment -next Wed at 9:45.

What are those elder people suppose to do now?

Exactly, Okay. If they'd had years to prepare for it, that would be one thing, but they were always told they'd have health care, life insurance, etc forever. My DB is one of these. And our ddfriends here, were caught in a scam by an investment company a few years ago -most of their retirement went there. There was a big trial here about all this and they were told then they would be lucky to get $.10 on a dollar. Consequently they continue to work very hard and now the 'no benefits' on top of that. They thought it was 'bad' when K odak announced about 3 years ago that spouses coverage would decline to nothing in 10 years. I'm sure these people will have medicare but will need supplemental insurance and that's not cheap as you all know.

Have dh's closet cleaned out and rearranged. Put everything that's going with us to 1 end of his closet. One thing I had to do was to make sure that the ends of both of our closets were cleaned off. Both floors on the ends are raised and under 1 is the hot water tank & the other has the holding tank for good water. Both have to be drained and he has to do something from the inside. Mine is empty and his has a small bin of sweatshirts -easy to move. Of course our living room is beginning to look like McGee's closet!
