Truly Terrific Thursday

Happy to be back here today -- have been slammed lately. Fortunately, not slammed by any difficulties, just by event after event after event....

Yesterday was run to other team manager's house for raffle basket work, former school for book fair, shopping for raffle basket/dropping off item at other team manager's house, brief stop home for lunch, back to the book fair, and afternoon carpool run, followed by a "leisurely" evening of raking leaves and riding herd on dd's homework. The day before that was spent planning menus, clipping coupons, and making grocery lists so we could head to the store early enough that dd would still have some homework time once we got back. Also had hockey e-mails and had to make arrangements for dd to go to my DM's, so she could do HW while we shopped, and figure out how to get DD to and from play rehearsal, which was square in the middle of the evening. Monday was taking DGM to the doctor's, dropping off her prescription, picking up BFF's dd4 from preschool & babysitting her for a while, then pickup run, hockey pictures, hockey practice & parents' meeting, and homework. Sunday was a doozie -- PSR (Sunday school) for the girls, followed by Mass, Book Fair, DH taking DD to a high-school open house while I stayed home to supervise dd with her HW, dd's play practice, dd's hockey game, and DD's play practice. Saturday was a hockey game far across town to the NW, a school outing to the SE, and DH's school play to the near west. I am SO looking forward to 1) a day without competing events, and 2) dd getting caught up on her HW. Neither of which seems to be going to happen soon.

Tonight is 5:30 hockey practice (till 6:30). Hockey coaches/managers' meeting to prepare for season scheduling on Saturday is at 8:00, and scenery painting for the girls' play (that I said I'd help with) is from 6 to 9. Hmm... I think I'd better get a crock going. I figure I'll go to the practice to collect paperwork from parents (have DH drive separately so he can take himself and dd home), then go over to the painting session for a while until I come home and take over supervising dd while DH goes to the meeting for both of us. Today, however, I need to reclaim the house, and I'd like to get some raking done before we get that turn in the weather that Bookie has mentioned.

And I just realized that dd is supposed to be at play practice at 6. I just fail to understand how it can be so difficult for this director to put out a rehearsal schedule for more than a week at a time when every director I had in jr hi and HS put out a full rehearsal schedule in advance (though some details were filled in later -- on Day 1, the rehearsal for Day 28 might only say, "touch up Act 2").

Sorry about my long ramble/rant. Will have to CUOP better later.

Had felt in the outside zippers of suitcases to see if perhaps I'd put the 'pink' notebook in one of those -not. Looked & looked for that and my little 'red' wallet with business cards in it and the combination to our safe. Was driving myself CRAZY! Finally decided to take our main travel suitcase and the 'back up' into our bedroom. Opened the 2nd case -there lay my "pink" notebook and the red wallet! Then I was really on the hunt for our combination. Knew the last I remembered I had it on the side of our fridge (not much room between there and the wall). Not there. Could see a couple of paper bags alongside & got both out (finally) with a yardstick. Could just see the corner of something sticking out from under the fridge. Pecked at that with the yardstick and it finally came out -WALLAH -COMBINATION! I now have it recorded elsewhere and the card in my wallet. Think I'll scan it and put that paper somewhere else. Now I can look in the safe to see what's in there. Also think I found the emerald ring dh bought me in Thailand. Still haven't found the necklace however. Would be Truly Terrific if I found it in the safe. Feeling much better now that everything else is found, however. Still am going to re-pack the travel suitcases.

Have a feeling the combination may have fallen when RV guy was here in the spring to fix our fridge and it was pulled out. I absolutely KNEW it had been on that fridge!

DH is off to Breakfast with the Boys. I have been up since 6 and have the kitchen all cleaned out, swept and floor mopped. Since the sheet goods run from the kitchen thru laundry hall and into bath, I did all of that, too. Also S2BF, breakfast and meds. Now just waiting for the furniture to be delivered.

The meeting with the kitchen/bath remodel man went well last night. We pick stuff out at L owe's and he buys it with his discount. He will divide the estimate into pieces so we can choose how much to do now and how much we have to put off.

Kitchen will be first up will be new counters and sink, new stove, fridge and microwave, new window, add a spice cupboard and redo walls. Walls now have batten strips every 4 feet and are some kind of wall board. We want to take down the batten strips and mud and tape ready for paint.

Bathroom will be take out tub and build shower with bench, remove large vanity and replace with smaller one so the doorway can be made larger for handicap accessibility. He will build in a small linen closet where part of the old vanity was. Ditto for the walls (hooray, I get rid of the rose colored rose buds!!)

I'm ready for the furniture delivery 1 1/2 hours early so now I wait.

Dee: Make your life easy, just take a close-up photo of the piece of paper and instead of going to the trouble of scanning the file.

Back from a walk to the church to get the curriculum. It isn't there. My guess, someone else volunteered to teach, doing so after the person who recruited me left church. Now I'll send some emails to see if I can find out who intends to teach. If no-one, then I'll come up with a lesson plan on my own (I know what part of the Moses story is to be covered this week.)

It is a nice day for a walk and dh came with me (so I could use him instead of a cane) so the effort for the walk wasn't wasted.

I'm 'paralyzed' too, Harmony. Thankfully I found those 3 things -actually 4. Will do that, Kathryn. Taking a photo as we 'speak'. Then I'll tape the actual card where we can remember??????

I'm eating potato soup for lunch. Interesting though, after a few bites -I'm full. I'd save the rest for dh if I didn't have this cold hanging on. Maybe I'll save it for a snack. No sense in eating when I can't. Who told me last night their dh was taking metformin? Does it affect the appetite?

I'm laughing because I just noticed the phone number on the front of the combination card -can you imagine how old this safe is!!!! BE 5 - 1613

Think it's time for 'toes up' for a bit (as Okay says). Feel like I've moved everything around in the RV today! Have the screen open for a while -really nice out. Should be finding things outside to do.

I'm having a rushed morning, but I'll come back later, will write down in my little notebook here, your names and cuop to post a more personal post rather than this.

Our printer went kaput! It's carriage is jammed, DH has worked and worked with it last night and this a.m. I need a printer for work, have some workshop info to print up, so DH will get a wireless printer today. I hope we'll be easily able to get it to work! technology sometimes is scary.

I made a few more Autumn cards last night. It's Autumn because my "Happy Haunting" stamp was too ugly and scary. I wrote some letters to go with 3 cards last night, too. Just sort ones.

Dmom is living on her own for the first time ever, in her whole entire life, she's 82 and she's loving it, the activities and friends. This is great news.

I have 4 x 6" index cards, so last night, I re-wrote my routines on the cards, and tucked them back into the clear vinyl sleeve pages. It's like a cross between the P & P card system and Flylady's Control Journal system. It works for me. I got the folder at the Dollar Store and it's for recipes. It makes a great little C. J.

I need to run. It's going to be a crazy day today, I'm afraid. I'll try to do a bit of a house blessing here and there in between everything else, too.

Have done nothing but talk on the phone to dhs olderdsis and to my dbs dw. People come first.

Harmony, yes, we had lots of leaves at the other house. I would rather mow than rake, but sometimes you have too many to mow. That house has guttering and that was always a pain. Dh would get up on the house and use a leaf blower to blow them out so they could be raked or mowed. This house doesn't have guttering because it's not your standard ranch style house shape. There are a few areas that we do want to put guttering on.

Mystery, no wonder you were MIA, you were busy with a lot things going on. I am so glad you are posting again.

Yeah, Dee, you are doing great on finding things. Hopefully that necklace will turn up. I too, get paralyzed if something is missing and I can sure make a mess trying to find something.

MT, all your renovations sound great. Glad you found a competent guy to do your remodel jobs.

Well, it took :30 rather than :15 to get the crock going (largely because I needed to wash the crock ), and after the :15 of excavating the dining table (I think I can see 2 sq. ft. now! ), I spent :15 making lunch, another :15 eating it and CUOPing, and another :15 outside raking. And somewhere in there, I forgot to reset the timer & so lost who knows how much.

Wishing scattered a good day at work and good luck with her faucet!

OKay, if you figure out a way to make things work with back-to-back commitments, let me know!

Dee -- I wonder what relationship the place you finally found the notebook had with the place you first expected to find it? (My DSIL (dmiddleBIL's wife) is fond of saying, "If you've looked everywhere, and you haven't found something, go back to the place you expected to find it, and look properly!" Sounds like that advice held true for the combo. LOL at the phone number. I remember enough such notations from my early childhood to know that our current exchange was REdwood, and my DGM's was ANdover. I think my DM's was WIllow (OK, that looks weird in this font!), but the WI could have stood for something else. My late DMIL talked about how her grandparents' phone number was originally 4 digits -- and how upset they were when they had to get an exchange!

(((Kathryn))) sorry for the aches and pains -- as if you didn't have enough of those lately! Did I tell you that not long ago, I saw desks designed for treadmills online and thought of you?

My :15 are up -- will have to CUOP with the rest later. Next up :15 more dining table, :15 more raking. Must go to store for items for hockey raffle basket, then a dilemma -- go to school early, so that dd has possibly some time to get sthing done before hockey and/or play practice, or go to school late, so that I have more time to get things done here before pickup? Probably the latter -- leaving here :45 later means only a :10-:15 difference in arrival time home, and dd will likely fritter away however much time she has, anyway.

Dee: how about taping the combination to the safe? I saw this tip years ago (re: student's locker combos.)

For the combo 17-38-9

First number: my 2 digit birth year, less the year my parents were married plus 5

Second number: my Dad and my mom's birth years added together

Third number: number of months I'm older than my youngest cousin.

You can choose all kinds of family references as your base numbers (i.e. your childhood house address, number of dogs you've owned over the years, year you bought your first car) and, unless the person looking at the words has all those pieces of trivia, they won't be able to figure out the combination.

I'm currently 30 minutes ahead of schedule. I'm thinking I might have missed something on my list but I'm using this time to lie on the floor in extension. Nap isn't to start for 30 minutes and I'm not tired enough to start it now, so I'll just work on my back issues while the floors dry.
