Re: Sunday Standard Time
Quick post before my nap.
Planned power outages are by the power company in order to do work on a substation or line. They happened when the school was built at the end of the street and they had to wire it into the power grid and when there is a new subdivision being built (a single home seems to be able to added just fine but not a larger installation.) This time there was a crew of 30 people coming in to work on a substation for maintenance. It was planned for weeks and didn't get cancelled despite so many workers being sent to do storm work. About 3000 homes are out this time so it is major work.
The power went out within 20 seconds of the radio 7 a.m. news starting and came back on at the dot of 11 (we were outside when it happened but by the school where there are crossing lights and the lights came on so we all knew the power was back on.) The company had said it would be from 7 to 11 so they weren't kidding!
Church went fine, a generator gave light to the pulpit and it was bright enough that we didn't need light in the choir loft. They also had a light shining down the stairs to the basement. The Sunday School room was bathed in light (south windows) but the kitchen was quite dark so the work done before church was done in the Sunday School room. They had electricity from the generator to start the coffee makers.
Dh stayed at the church and handled the generator (to turn it off and gather in the cords when the power came back on) but I went to the Centotaph service. This is our Veteran's Day service because the Royal Canadian Legion had to spread them over two Sunday's in order to get a service in each little village. Our church members were quite involved, we lay a wreath, our minister did the prayer and we hosted the luncheon after for the community with food supplied by all three local churches.
I got exhausted and plainly stated to dh that I had to leave. We got home and ds was just out of bed so he and I made lunch for us (grilled cheese and bacon) and played a game of gin. That pushed me beyond my limit but I managed to stay calm and am in bed now.
Dh and ds have a list of outdoor chores to do while I nap. So I won't get everything done I wanted to do since I'm particular and need to supervise. Those chores I'll do on my own over the next week. It would have been nice to have help but I just don't have the energy to stand, let alone work right now and by the time my nap is done, it will be dark.

Re: Sunday Standard Time
Hi everyone.
Oh, boy, I knew I should change my bedroom clock but didn't on purpose. I am setting it an hour earlier and I wake just enough to swallow my pill and go back to sleep for an hour. Then when I get up I don't have to wait for breakfast or my coffee. Knew if I left my clock as it was I'd get to sleep another 2 hours instead of 1. That was wonderful and I was extremely grateful for my 2nd hour of sleep.
Harriet, I hope HRH gets better quick. Ah, the cherries. I remember not being able to find some one time and got the canned ones, not sweetened; hoping they helped. Have a friend who's son suffers, all the time, every day, despite diet changes. I'm thinking he must be cheating with something he eats.
Last eve. I put my quilt together, but that meant crawling around on the floor and sitting on hard tile. Had to get up and rest several times. My hips are a bit sore today. And it wasn't a very strenuous job, but today I am whooped! Church really did me in and after I ate after coming home I slept for a couple hours. I'm really getting tired of all this. Everytime I do anything I am super tired the next day. A week ago I thought I was feeling better, but it did not last.
Have a turkey breast in the cooker baking out on the lanai. Told DH he might have to help get the rest of dinner. ..sigh.....

divy.. scary. we had someone (knew it was neighbors to the left), (at night) shooting hand guns at the edge of yard property (right behind the house and not in the back of the woods) they were hunting raccoons and I could hear them laughing as I asked them to leave - I had the 2 girls (young at the time) and my dh worked 2 hours away and would be gone for the week. I knew who they were and couldn't prove it. I can see why it is scary and frustrating. Sorry you had to deal with that.

Re: Sunday Standard Time
Good Day!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Scattered!!!!
Church was very much enjoyed this morning. Although I can't remember when i last did the normal congregation stuff during service (sit, sing, listen, leave). During the music portion of the service, I sat with LO while he played his drum pad. The person playing the big drum set welcomes LO attention and eagerly feeds him instruction while they are playing. LO never takes his eyes off the drum person and tries to imitate everything he does. We are getting close to age when they said a child is old enough to take drum lesson. Although LO is 9 months too young, I think he is ready to learn and practice. During the preaching portion of the service, I kept the nursery with four little 1&2 year old girls. While we played together, I kept thinking how different girls and boys are - even at that age. These little girls played totally different from boys. Very good, but different.
Lunch was at subway with friend and her 4 boys. It felt more normal to be surrounded by 5 boys. They were all extremely well behaved, but they left no doubt they were guys.
I took a 2 hour nap! My body hasn't changed time yet, so I woke up at 4am this morning and got started on my day. I hope I'm able to go to sleep as easily as normal tonight.
Before I laid down for my nap, I put some pinto beans in the instant pot and pushed a button. it was a treat to wake up with it done and waiting on me to dish it up.
I grew up watching my DGrandparents eating a few dark cherries each day. My DParents both eat them almost daily too. I need to learn from them and establish the habit too.

Re: Sunday Standard Time
I went through our search here and found that it was more than 3 years ago, July 4, 2009, I last reported to the village HRH was having a gout attack, and at the time I stated it had been "7 full months" since his last one, so I must have thought that was pretty good at the time.
Kathryn will nod approval at helpful knowledge discovered.
Another thing I discovered was a mention that dr had prescribed "prescription anti-inflammatory". hmmm. thought it was a good idea at the time, didn't I... ... some here may remember that it was steroids, which caused about as much trouble as it relieved. His blood sugar spiked from that and stayed high quite a while, for instance. Also not good for the tummy.
((blessed)) I know you would do that, and we appreciate it. But I neglected to say HRH keeps a packet of dried cherries on hand - this is what we switched to from other products like canned as the time kept stretching out since the last attack. It seemed that it would be the most concentrated quick help, while still having a long shelf life. Guess I should research and see if anyone's done a study yet on what the best type of preserved cherry is to keep on hand for gout. OKay, I've seen that product before, too, so I'm sure it would be available here.
One thing I still maintain is that a loved one's gout attack signals that the whole family may have let their guard down and needs to re-examine their diet. If the attack is from fructose like high-fructose-corn-syrup (highly likely), take care the whole family stays further away from that. If the family suspects prepared brands of meat gravies (I've mentioned here that our household will never again eat Man-wich brand) then ease up on that for the whole family, because gout is a signal of changes in the diet that are negative for anybody. If the loved one had become dehydrated, the whole family needs to double-check - maybe they need more water, too. Harmony, of course things are different for your friend's son - that's a tough situation. Maybe he could get a second opinion now that there are so many more drs who understand gout better. He's absolutely got to quit the high-fructose-corn-syrup, though, which will only make things worse - he probably knows that.

Re: Sunday Standard Time
Good Evening! I had a nice quiet day puttering around.
Neither dh or I slept sound last night. We did have a nice visit with dfam#1. Ds got home from work at 5:30 pm then went right back out for pizza. We watched Madagascar 3 and the new Tinkerbell movie with dgkids. By the time we got home dh said his stomach was upset. He sat up in his recliner until 5 am. I went to bed about midnight, but kept getting up to check on him. Took a handful of T ums; was all right this morning.
Harriet... I seem to remember it has been a long time since you mentioned HRH and gout. Hope he feels better soon. And I hope nothing serious with the heater.
Blessed... so nice you were able to have dd home for the weekend.
Sadie... sending good thoughts for your dsil and dson.
Ivy... I admire your positive attitude. I'm waiting and praying with you for positive test results.
We have kept our cars and house doors locked here for many years. Our neighborhood is quiet, but years ago there was a rash of break-ins by teens who are now grown and gone.
We're watching the Steelers/Giants game.

Re: Sunday Standard Time
Sunny, sorry DH was not feeling well. Think it was the pizza?
OKay, I sure saw the difference between boys and girls when I had DGD here recently. I wonder what the world'd be like if we were all the same?!
Harriet, my friend said that every cereal on the shelf had h fructose corn syrup in it; she said this when she was talking about her son's diet. His foot was so bad he could no longer work at his job. I've lost touch with her but it had been going on for a long time. He had lost the ability to work and had put a camper in her back yard to live in. Very sad.
We had our dinner, turkey was good, dh made the sweet potatoes and I steamed a head of cauliflower. Cleanup was a bunch of work, and I didn't have any help with that.
Man. I'm too tired to do anything else. I did a little paperwork for him, and then he couldn't find the email address to get it to him.
Going to go read my book.

Re: Sunday Standard Time
Good evening everyone! DD10 has come and gone, leaving the house a total disaster. I have spent 15 min in the kitchen and have cat clinic laundry running. I did manage to get DD to church today and rewarded her with a Chinese lunch. Yesterday, I took the newest foster cat to the adoption clinic and I am afraid I traumatized her. She has been hiding in the closet ever since. While DD was playing, I crocheted huge flowers out of scrap yarn for a yarn bombing. I got rid of much extra yarn.
What I still need to do: reset watch, get dinner, cook meat for lunches before it goes bad, clear stuff from fridge, 15 min in the LR, work on cruise pictures so I can send them to my friends.
I may check in later, I may not. Here goes 15 min of picture duty!

Re: Sunday Standard Time
OKay - Thanks for the birthday wishes but it is not until the 18th. For some reason S tarbucks is now putting your birthday drink on your card. I went to use it today and the lady said it was expired
When I explained that my Bday is not till the 18th and that I just got the email this last week she gave me my drink and told me to call the 800 number on the back of the card.
Okay & Harmony - I figured out almost 9 yrs ago the huge difference between boys & girls when I went to stay with a Dfriend whose daughter is about a yr younger then DS13... I discovered that God does love me because he did not give me the 1 of each that I asked for. Boys are MUCH easier and quieter than girls, this thought is confirmed every time I have to work on the Girls Adolescent unit at work.
Harriet - I hate Steroids!!! I had to go on them when I had Human Parvo (aka Fifths Disease or Slapped Face Syndrome) while in Nursing School... they were worse then the illness and I (ignorantly) quit taking them cold turkey (don't ever do this because it can cause DEATH).
Well, I am not going to be able to get any of my planned chores because I did not realize I was going to have to get my Tdap vaccine at Reserves today. Good News, I won't get Tetanus or Diphtheria anytime soon, bad news my arm hurts and I feel yucky!!!
I did manage to get to the grocery store & even though I spent $193.79 I saved $68.27 and got 188 fuel points (100 pts = .10 off gas)

ToDo
Coffee
Flip lol and throw NWU in dryer to fluff
D2s
put away 1.5 hamper (well it is sorted on my bed
)
check store flyers
meal plan for week
Head out to BMC
Got Tetanus vaccine
Groceries
Home
Fold LOL's
Clear off Bed
Dinner (ended up that the DK's made their own Spaghetti and I had leftover soup)
Match socks (tomorrow)
Bed NLT 2300!!!
Watching the Next Iron Chef then I think I will be going to bed...

Re: Sunday Standard Time
Harmony Just to set the record straight, Spoon-sized and regular sized shredded wheat does not have sugar or HFCS in it. Just BHT added to the packaging for freshness. As well, Kellogg's Frosted Mini Wheats don't have HFCS, just sugar. (The box I'm reading must have come from the US since it doesn't have any French on the packaging.) Things like Raisin Bran do, but All Bran and Rice Krispies have sugar, not HFCS (at least my Canadian ones do.)
When I travel I opt for frosted Mini-wheats which are often on breakfast bars in the little boxes. If I can't get those, then I'm stuck because the rest of the options on the breakfast bars tend to have HFCS. That's when I'll head to a grocery store and spring for a box of cereal of my own (and just use the hotel's milk, spoons, and bowls.)
I slept long and deep again. Thank heaven's for boring PBS shows! Woke up in the middle of a This Old House episode, which was obviously too exciting since the change in tone woke me up!
Dh and ds worked hard outside for the 3 hours I was in bed so they asked if we could order in pizza which we did and then we watched a movie. Ds hung around for another 2 hours before heading home. I told him any time he needs a 'holiday' from his regular life, he can come home for a bit. That means he doesn't have to pay the gas to drive all the way to London (6 hours away.) He only got one call for a shift this weekend and couldn't take it because it interfered with his next shift. So that meant he really did get a weekend away from work.
I got a couple of the weekly chores done in the evening once I started to wake up, plus the last load of laundry and cleaning up the dishes from the day. Dishwasher is done now so I could head off to bed but I'm predictably not tired.
